^ it looks beautiful on you!
I looked up your report, and your stone is shallow, but still scored really well on the Holloway Cut Advisor. I think it's because your diamond has a shallow crown angle too. Often with a big table like that the angle is steep. Basically your diamond has a lot of spread...so it looks bigger than it is. I wish I could draw a picture of your diamond vs the one I had pictured before I knew your crown and pavilion angles. Could you get a better cut? Yes, but I think the one you have is perfectly fine for a pendant. I just looked on blue nile and their selection is kinda low because of valentines day, but as it stands, I'd keep the one you have now. It looks lovely on you!

I'm a diamond nerd..thats true, and as a photographer and diamond studier maybe I can see differences in diamonds most people can't, due to my eye for light, and colors, and details. They are subtle differences though. I highly doubt if you and I stood next to one another people would think there was much difference between our necklaces if any at all. Don't sweat it. Love what you have!!

kellymcd...I wanted to add...
A good example in my own life is my e-ring diamond. It has a 60% table and a 60% depth. While 15 years ago that might have been thought of as ideal, today it is not. I did buy it in the modern era of diamond thought and was advised by many based on intial numbers not to buy it. But I did anyway. Upon further investigating the numbers, the other angles make up for the table and depth percentages making it not only a very spready stone, but one that performs very very well (excellent in fact). It doesn't have the flashes of colored light (fire) that a deeper more ideal cut diamond does in normal lighting or in sunshine, but it is unbelievably bright sparkly stone with amazing white light return, brilliance, and scintillation.

I think your stone is kind of like that. There was more to the story of your stone, and while it might not be an "ideal cut" it is quite good and unique. I think you got a wonderful price because of the cut, and yet ended up with an E and VS1...good find!

Thanks for all of your help skphotoimages! I am starting to understand more about diamond proportions and what they mean. I think this is something that I really want to read up about in my spare time (when im not being a nursing student) because I think its really cool to know! I feel more confident about my choice and necklace now that I know a little more about it.

Thank you once again for all of your help!

This should make you feel even better still. This is a video done by good old gold that shows a diamond cut like yours next to a perfectly performing hearts and arrows. Make sure to watch it long enough or fast forward through the different lighting conditions.

Thank you for the video! I just watched it! I see how the table being bigger takes away some of the bling in the diffuesd light but it still had fire! All of them were so pretty...I deffinitely didnt want to fast forward

Skphotoimages - I have a question regarding your chain - does your hair get tangled in it? I've had problems with all chains (even my Tiffany SS chain necklace would eat my hair) but not the platinum one because I think the links are so fine and small, my hair has trouble finding its way into it.

I can't answer for SK but my hair gets in a knot with no help from a necklace/chain lol. I have gotten chains well worked into my hair a few times. Even platinum ones :(

Pendant gets a great HCA Score (1.1) and other than being a tiny bit deep looks great. Id wager this is a nice one.

1126465891 Stud Stone gets a 3.3 and despite the GIA calling it's cut grade Excellent, it's not my idea of excellent. The depth is a little much. Not impressed. But the HCA isn't the end all. It could be lovely. It just falls just outside of typical ideal range.

1126270043 Stud Stone gets a 2.3 and its just barely outside of typical ideal. This might be worth seeing in person!

I am resurrecting this thread because I am now considering buying my first DBTY solitaire :)

First, thank youskphotoimages for starting this thread as it's really very helpful!

I've been really wanting a nice everyday necklace, and I know the solitaire will be so pretty and will go with everything. I am thinking of buying my necklace from BN so I can get the best bang for my buck. The question is, what would be a good size for a solitaire? What specs should I look for beyond the 4 c's so I can get the best stone, within my budget, that will sparkle the most? Can someone help me please? I'm not that great with diamonds...I only know the basics :)

Here are my thoughts:
Cut: Very good to Ideal
Color: G or H
Clarity: sI1 - VS1 (as long as its eye clean, I'm good!)
Carat: 0.26 - 0.32? I'm not sure! I am 5'4" with athletic build, if that helps!

How about depth, table, symmetry, fluorescence? Does anyone have a take on this?
The chain I'm looking at is either 18K WG or YG, thought I haven't decided yet. I'm pretty tan (olive skin tone) year round, however, I wear mostly white gold/silver pieces. Only reason why I'm considering YG is that I think it would just be a nice change and the chain will be thin enough that it won't be that noticeable. Thoughts?

My budget is about $500-700 for the stone. The chain will cost about $300. I don't want to spend over $1000 for the necklace :) I feel as though that this is enough for me to get that dainty and pretty necklace that I want, without going over the top!

TIA for all your help! It would be really great if someone can give me their input on what stone I should get!

PS: I plan on going to Tiffany's this weekend as well to try their necklaces and try to see the size in real life. Thanks a ton!
