I am resurrecting this thread because I am now considering buying my first DBTY solitaire
First, thank youskphotoimages for starting this thread as it's really very helpful!
I've been really wanting a nice everyday necklace, and I know the solitaire will be so pretty and will go with everything. I am thinking of buying my necklace from BN so I can get the best bang for my buck. The question is, what would be a good size for a solitaire? What specs should I look for beyond the 4 c's so I can get the best stone, within my budget, that will sparkle the most? Can someone help me please? I'm not that great with diamonds...I only know the basics
Here are my thoughts:
Cut: Very good to Ideal
Color: G or H
Clarity: sI1 - VS1 (as long as its eye clean, I'm good!)
Carat: 0.26 - 0.32? I'm not sure! I am 5'4" with athletic build, if that helps!
How about depth, table, symmetry, fluorescence? Does anyone have a take on this?
The chain I'm looking at is either 18K WG or YG, thought I haven't decided yet. I'm pretty tan (olive skin tone) year round, however, I wear mostly white gold/silver pieces. Only reason why I'm considering YG is that I think it would just be a nice change and the chain will be thin enough that it won't be that noticeable. Thoughts?
My budget is about $500-700 for the stone. The chain will cost about $300. I don't want to spend over $1000 for the necklaceI feel as though that this is enough for me to get that dainty and pretty necklace that I want, without going over the top!
TIA for all your help! It would be really great if someone can give me their input on what stone I should get!
PS: I plan on going to Tiffany's this weekend as well to try their necklaces and try to see the size in real life. Thanks a ton!
Diamond prices sure went up! I went on BlueNile to see if I could find a stone similiar to mine and the closest one was $800 ( I paid just under $600 for the stone I think) Sheesh!
Well if you do decide to go through blue nile either google a coupon code, wait for a sale, or message me and I'll give you a recent code from their emails. Usually you can save a little off the setting that way.
This diamond is pretty nice and in your range. I'd call to ask about the SI1 part though.

and in case the link doesn't work it's stock number is LD02155130 It's .30 H SI1 for $609. The cut is pretty good (well they call it ideal, but I'm way pickier than them..lol) It's table is 57% and the depth is 60.5% It has a kinda shallow crown angle though. Hmmm...
I spent 4 or 5 days solid...as in 30 hours or more just in picking my diamond..lol. I'm obsessive

I almost like this one more:
http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?pt=setform#diamonds_pid=LD02157193
Stock number LD02157193 T 57% D 60.5 The crown angle is a little better on this one but then the pavillion angle is a little steeper.
I've clicked on several stones and haven't seen one in the rangle I would look but I nit pick. Any of these stones will be truly stunning and better than most stones out there.
FYI, here is a stone like my friends Tiffany DBTY..well as close as I could get anyway. This blue nile one is actually better:

but it's an I with no fluorescence, so I know it isn't exactly what you want. It's be fine in YG, but in a WG bezel setting I think it's good to stck to G or H.
Well if you see any diamonds you like, post the link here and we'll give you our opinion on the stone
