I should clarify that just because I have not had an issue with any of my stone pieces being damaged does not mean that I believe that they are meant to be worn 24/7, just that each situation is different and they might be fine, or they might not. I have a handful of pieces like onyx 5 motif that I have decided I will wear into the ground and do not expect any residual value, but have received 10x the pleasure value in what I paid already in having a daily piece I can wear anywhere and everywhere. Other pieces are one of a kind and I baby them. Most others are somewhere in the middle (Carnelian, Chalcedony, Tigers Eye, Onyx and all-metal I will wear in the shower and running but not swimming and I do not use any perfumes, hair products or lotions; it is also cold here even in the summer so I do not sweat even when running). I think each person needs to evaluate the risk level for each piece (hardier or more delicate), what type of pristine condition vs 24/7 use balance they want to lean towards, and then go from there. I have worn antique diamond pieces lifting weights, but they DID break, so now I only wear them running (with gloves) just in case I happen to lose a stone. I do have a mental budget of a few thousand per year for repairs and I am ok with that spread though my whole collection; some years it is $10k in repairs and some years it is $0.
