Beware of the super fakes

This thread was something I was thinking about when I came back from my trip to Paris. I am a Chanel newbie and everyone told me to watch out for fakes there. I purchased a wallet and WOC in Paris, in a Chanel store. It made me wonder if the one sold in the stores are knock offs, though I highly doubt they would sell a knock off.

I was the victim of a fake this past month so I did a little digging to see how this could happen. I own 6 chanel bags all purchased directly form Chanel by me or my mother so I thought it would be somewhat easy to tell real from fake. I was wrong. I bought two pre-loved bags (my first used Chanels ever) and one turned out to be fake. A really good super fake. I thought I was knock-off proof when it came to Chanel. Now I know how I was fooled. I wanted to share the two links below so others would be more vigilant.

Be careful out there.

Dreadful, I hope you were able to track the seller.

I got a boy bag from Saks in September 2014, I ordered it from the Saks in Ct...it doesn't have the Chanel leather smell like my jumbo...is it possible to have gotten a fake from Saks? Is it possible for the SA to be selling fakes or to have gotten a fake and not realize it?

Doubt it, but take it to a Saks or Chanel store.

Thank you from replies and good points! I guess that's just because picture is not taken directly from straight angle, because stitching matches perfectly when I look at the bag. From what I understand from authenticate4u is that the stamping in the card is the signal for counterfeit, Chanel wouldn't have made mistakes. :D

Hindsight is 20/20, the people who sold you the bag worked very hard to fool you. Hopefully, you can track them to get your money back.

Hi,

I just wanted to share this on superfake thread, since I recently purchased this bag, got it authenticated online and evaluation was not-authentic! So scary! Why I got it authenticated is because of sticker is removed/peeled and I haven't never seen auth card like that, messy and missing periods. Here are some pictures I sent and got evaluation as a counterfeit, what do you think?

If the card and sticker is the only thing that gave it away...then I'm terrified.

Hun, did you purchase the preloved bags online? I only ask as I've gotten a couple myself & although they are from reputable sellers, your revelation still has me worried.

I went to turkey last year and the amount of fakes sold there was astounding. These weren't dodgy looking stores though - they looked like upmarket boutiques. I went into one, out of curiosity, and the fakes were extremely well made. The shop assistant said that that they buy the real ones and copy from there - they've gotten to the point where they can copy everything identically (including the leather, the stitching etc.) except for the hardware for some reason. That was the one tell-tale sign apparently because the weight of the bag wasn't quite the same as the original as a result.

It was pretty scary - I've been buying Chanel for years and I definitely wouldn't have been able to tell they were fakes by looking at a picture.
Yes, it is obvious from the pictures the chain hardware looks rather different than the actual. From the serial number sticker, it seems that it could a real sticker peeled off from another bag and stuck onto that day. That could explain why for such a new bag you would have the outer rim of the sticker torn off and also the sticker looks very close to the authentic (minus the gold specks that sometimes don't show up in the photos).

I think is very wrong to judge the authenticity of a bag by the serial sticker, i bought a bag 2 days ago straight from the chanel shop, and the sticker is almost falling of and its attached very poorly, also another chanel bag that i also bought from the chanel shop an year ago part of the sticker is damaged and felt off.
I dont have any doubts about the authenticity of the bags as they were both from the Chanel store but i am terrified about the moment that i'll have to sell them and people will ask/think they are fake.
The safest way to shop online for a bag is to buy from trusted sellers.

this is an attachment of the serial sticker of the bag i bought 2 days ago, if i would of bought it online or on ebay i would of been convinced is fake, but its not

i know online services are supposed to help with authentication and i recently used one to buy a bag, but how good can online really be? i wonder. in the WOCs, for instance, the "superfakes" have a flap zipper that is only decorative and does not extend the length of the bag. i discovered this during some travels abroad. but the authentication services online do not ask for a picture of having someone's hand extend down that back zip pocket, for instance. you take your chances online, sadly.

So true! I was in Turkey last year too and was shocked at the quality of the fake Chanels they had on sale. I was carrying my lambskin boy woc with me and I could barely tell my original boutique bought and their super fake apart. Even the weight difference was unnoticeable for the wocs.

Hi again, I don't know if this is ok to ask here, but you know my case from receiving this flap which turned out to be fake. I paid with paypal, and they are now telling me to return this bag to seller, which is against law.. Have you had experience from this, I am really desperate, how can this be possible? I can't understand how can they 1. ask me to break the law 2. punish me to pay for fake items shipping 3. guarantee that seller will receive the bag and refund me.

I would just call them up and ask these types of questions to CS. I'm not really qualified to answer this, so I'll just give you my opinion. I would consider filing a SNAD with the seller and opening up a case. Have a statement guaranteeing the non authenticity of the item, as back up if need be. And try to work with PayPal in order to resolve the dispute by making several calls. Best of luck!

I hope most of you know the tPF has a "FAKE" forum in Chanel Shopping, where fakes we stumble across are posted as a warning. You can learn tons from reading through the posts as to what to look for, etc.. Granted, some of the images are gone because they're links to bags no longer for sale (many were reported and the listings taken down--yay!) But there are enough photos and info to help you become an educated consumer (well, they've helped me and Lord knows I'm blonde and post-menopausal... so if they can help ME...well, you get the idea.) :p

Chanels aren't the only items subject to knock-offs. Gucci, Kors, Coach... Rolex, Breitling... there's a long and sad list. As long as buyers are willing to fund con-artists, con-artists will thrive. IMHO and IMHE (your mileage may vary).

A little education is a good thing when looking to spend money. So is (as had been pointed out) working with reputable authentication services noted on this site.

Excellent advice.

There is also plenty of info and people with great advice to help you in the Ebay forum in you look at those threads. Here is a good one:

Hello.
Do wallets & mini flap bags have the hologram sticker?
While my gst has it, the mini & wallet don't.
Also my gst did not come with a dust bag ( Dubai boutique) & my mini only Came with a duty free( dubai airport botiique) receipt not with a chanel one! Both wallet & mini have the authentication cards & chanel packing. All my chanel items are bought at botiques. I feel that all experiences have been inconsistent !! I really don't know what is common procedure with chanel!! Please help if you can. Tia

Ps. Am not worried about authentication but just curious about the differences

all Chanel bags should have the hologram sticker inside, even wallets and minis. the exception would be bags you bought second-hand ; they could have removed the sticker or damaged the sticker, or had the interior reconditioned and the sticker would be ripped out. the authenticity card should also come with each new item, but my friend once made a purchase at Saks and she didn't get the authenticity card, so it sometimes happens that authentic items are missing a component, but never the sticker (unless purchased used). the WOCs do not come with a dustbag, so it does vary somewhat based on what product you buy.
