Beware of the super fakes

There is a thread that discusses "Trusted Chanel Sellers" somewhere around here. A lot of ebay discussion is on it though.

My rule of thumb--be trusting, but still vigilant for quality and errors, when purchasing from Chanel / Barneys / Bergdorfs / Neimans etc. that sell current season Chanel, new in box. Always 3rd party authenticate and assume the worst when buying from any reseller be it full fledged companies like Fashionphile or personal sellers on ebay. I'm wary of the mistakes and 'benefits of doubt' that come into play when the same group/person is authenticating and selling the bag. Would rather get the bag checked out by a 3rd party authenticator that does not profit by letting false negatives slip though.

I've been looking into how to tell fake bags from real and some are definitely more obvious than others.I know Yoogis closet has a good reputation and say they authenticate all bags, but one on their site actually looked fake to me but I don't know enough about Chanel to say for a fact that it was or not.

This makes me so scared as i do have one preowned bag and keep debating another. Is there any physical places to get bags authenticated? If so where? Or is there just no way to be sure when buying preowned. I know there are real ones out there as many of you and I personally have sold bags we buy at boutiques. It's just so scary.

I meant, first I did authentication using pictures, I was it is real. I purchased the bag and took it to a consignment store where it was confirmed it is a super fake.

I think it is too hard to tell based just on pictures.
Do you still have the picture of the super fake you bought? I kind of worry about that too.

I don't unfortunately. Here are the words that the women in the consignment store said "It looks and even smells like Chanel but it is a super fake". This was after 30 min. After first 5 min she was saying "It's authentic".

I wouldn't advise to go with the online authentication if you want to be safe.

Superfakes are too good and the price will be high.

I got a boy bag from Saks in September 2014, I ordered it from the Saks in Ct...it doesn't have the Chanel leather smell like my jumbo...is it possible to have gotten a fake from Saks? Is it possible for the SA to be selling fakes or to have gotten a fake and not realize it?

I don't think you can get fakes from real stores.

In the end, what was the thing that made the Authenticator decide it was fake?

Hi,

I just wanted to share this on superfake thread, since I recently purchased this bag, got it authenticated online and evaluation was not-authentic! So scary! Why I got it authenticated is because of sticker is removed/peeled and I haven't never seen auth card like that, messy and missing periods. Here are some pictures I sent and got evaluation as a counterfeit, what do you think?

Wow very scary. I guess we should have our preloved items authenticated online before buying and also in a consignment store after we have received the item. Better to be safe than sorry!

Yes, I maybe should have done that, but I didn't figure from the pictures seller sent that it could be fake and the price was not at all cheap. I guess I should have asked for better pictures about sticker and card, since when I received purse and found out these two things I became paranoid. But authenticate4u is reliable, so I can trust their evaluation, right? I went to boutique and they will not do authentication..

Just looking through your pics, the last/bottom pic you can tell that the stitching does not line up correctly so that's like an indication of being fake. I'm not an authenticator but something tells me there's something off of this purse.

Thank you from replies and good points! I guess that's just because picture is not taken directly from straight angle, because stitching matches perfectly when I look at the bag. From what I understand from authenticate4u is that the stamping in the card is the signal for counterfeit, Chanel wouldn't have made mistakes. :D

I went to turkey last year and the amount of fakes sold there was astounding. These weren't dodgy looking stores though - they looked like upmarket boutiques. I went into one, out of curiosity, and the fakes were extremely well made. The shop assistant said that that they buy the real ones and copy from there - they've gotten to the point where they can copy everything identically (including the leather, the stitching etc.) except for the hardware for some reason. That was the one tell-tale sign apparently because the weight of the bag wasn't quite the same as the original as a result.

It was pretty scary - I've been buying Chanel for years and I definitely wouldn't have been able to tell they were fakes by looking at a picture.
