Beware: Best faked bags in the market

It's interesting how the counterfeit bag industry began as something that offered designer bag replicas for those who couldn't afford the real thing. Now the replicas have become so good that even those who can afford the real thing are willing to buy the fakes.

When a wealthy person buys a counterfeit bag the signal is quite clear: they know the real designer bag is overpriced and not worth it even if they have the money, but they still feel the need to portray themselves as a wealthy person with a recognizable premium designer bag. They're just playing this came of building an image and a facade. It's like the "Emperor's new clothes".

I feel like the next step here should be that the wealthy people realize they don't need to play this (unethical) game. If you don't feel like a real Birkin is worth the price tag, then just don't get one, real or fake! You don't need to get the Rich Person Starter Pack of a Hermès, Rolex and VCA to signal your wealth if you don't want to. Buy authentic things that are worth the price for you.

People should enjoy the luxury of being authentic to themselves.
100% agree with this. Reminds me of a quote from the book, The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.

"Saving money is the gap between your ego and your income, and wealth is what you don’t see."

So while this is not about a fake bag, I just read in the Pricescope jewelry forum that someone bought a preloved Cartier Love bracelet that turned out to be a very good fake with cert. The seller has apparently been on that forum for a couple of years but not with a lot of posts. The buyer is out of pocket quite a few Gs. I’d say that if anyone plans to buy a preloved anything, to do their due diligence, only buys it from a reputable buyer that has a return policy, don’t use PayPal Friend & Family or any type of money transfer—use CC/regular PayPal. It’s definitely buyer’s beware.

I also saw another post where someone admitted to putting the ordinary serum in their la mer bottle, and ppl were asking for links to buy empty la mer bottles. That one was a bit sad.
This blows my mind. I'm not an influencer, I don't take photos of inside my bathroom vanity, or carry around my moisturizer with me - who would know you used La Mer!?

I read that these factories get raided by the police from time to time. Also buyers take a risk of being out of pocket because custom either in China or destination country often seize items.
The risk is probably what thrills people.

I think the mentality is kinda “I got one over on society” when the reality is society got one over on them.

I will say that whenever I’ve reported fake Mulberry sellers in IG they’ve responded with takedowns quite fast.

Fakes are EVERYWHERE. I've authenticated Hermès for just over ten years, and I'm honestly still shocked at how many reps are being passed as authentic. Just tonight, I was scrolling through 1stDibs (extremely reputable second hand goods site), and I found an egregiously fake birkin. It doesn't even look real-- I found at least five major callouts within my first 60 seconds of looking at it. I'll be calling 1stDibs in the morning, because this is absolutely unacceptable.

UPDATE: Fake Birkin on 1stDibs
I posted a couple days ago about a fake birkin I saw on 1st Dibs and promised I’d update once I’d got in contact with the customer support/authentication team at 1stDibs. Was able to contact them today, and the representative I spoke with was extremely apologetic and appreciative. They are still working on reaching out to the seller and closing the listing, however it is still active at the time of my writing this.

The fake bag in question is a "Birkin" 35 in orange ostrich leather (1st Dibs link: https://www.1stdibs.com/fashion/han...ermes-birkin-35-ostrich-orange/id-v_16056612/). I found at least ten callouts, but the main ones were with the zipper and the date stamp. I won’t get too into the zipper, becasue some of the callouts I found are not very widely known, and I don’t want to encourage corrections to replicas. The main flaw is that ostrich leather bags should have an ostrich leather zipper pull. This bag had a zipper pull made of what seems to be some sort of replicated version of chevre marocain leather (leather used on the interior of many authentic Hermès bags). As far as the date stamp though, the bag is from 2011 which featured the letter “O” inside of a square. The “O” on every authentic bag I have ever seen from this year is a very precise, circle-shaped “O”. On this replica, I noticed that the “O” is an oval instead of a circle.

I’m honestly surprised and kind of disappointed, as 1stDibs is extremely reputable and one of my favourite sites to browse. Needless to say, we should all be more cautious when browsing the secondhand market. ALWAYS get a second opinion on bags you buy outside of the boutique. Hope everyone had a nice weekend! xx

Thank you! The shape is atrocious, that is the only thing that jumps out to me, but I am not an Hermes expert. Also a brand new seller.
