Edited to add source: https://thenewsdept.com/trending/145063.html (I was unable to locate the original source where I learned about this incident, but the linked source does a decent job of summarising what happened.)
^A tabloid site (Russian, it seems) stating tabloid hearsay, and then completely misread here. The article refers to a "warehouse salesman," not Hermes staff/SAs, who committed fraud. To the contrary, Hermes employees testified to the fraud: "Store employees suggest that Nikolina managed to replace at least nine bags of 10,000 euros each." And the sourcing is: "This was reported by the Russian media." Not any in particular, just, y'know, media. The culprit doesn't even get a full name. You find this a credible scam at Hermes? I do not.

Apologies, I now realise I actually conflated a completely separate incident that happened at Louis Vuitton with an incident at Hermès. To be clear, and as I mentioned in my original post, the bag swapping allegedly happened at a Louis Vuitton boutique.
