Best Jewelry Decisions You've Ever Made?

I find it interesting that so many of the ladies in the thread have given up silver jewelry just as I'm getting back into it. I bought nothing but gold since I was out of high school until last year. Now I'm splitting about 50/50 between classic items in gold and more quirky silver artisan items.

I was surprised by this too... I love silver. Had a brief gold phase, but soon went back to silver. Some skin tones just look better with the white flash of silver... If we had unlimited funds, maybe we could make it platinum, but for a fraction of the cost, I can deal with some polishing now and then.

Best jewelry decisions for me have been (some of) my jade purchases, my Tiffany purchases, and currently also enjoying my silver wing earrings I bought on Amazon for freakishly cheap.

And back on topic, my MVPs are my diamond stud earrings, my RHR, and my ruby and diamond ring.

I love silver pieces too, love the patina and the color of sterling.
When I was younger I only bought gold, but at some point I decided I had enough, especially since I was only using my favorite pieces. About 10 years ago I started buying nice silver pieces, and fun costume jewelry and have really enjoyed them. But I'm the type that loves variety in jewelry (and handbags).

additionally, i have diamond studs that my dad gave my mom in the 70s, when they were dating. my mom gave them to me after they divorced. they're set in yellow gold, which i hate. i wore them anyway because they had sentimental value. i had them rhodium dipped, and now they match my jewelry!

i also had my ering reset higher, and it really shows off the stone. :)

Asking for y/g diamond studs for my birthday and then asking for an upgrade for another birthday then buying bigger studs in w/g. My stud wish list is complete.
Stopped buying costume. Not that I don't like it, just realized that I tend to wear the gold and silver more.

Dipping was a great idea!

The best jewelry decision I ever made was to stop buying costume. When good quality pieces could be found for $100 or under, that was one thing. I even managed to score Chanel near that price point when they had their Woodbury Common outlet. Now, I see brands charging into the thousands for gold plated brass and semi precious stones. No way. Not ever.

Totally true for me too! I have sold off most of the costume pieces from various designers and only kept a necklace from Chanel. The price for those are crazy now without justification of quality.

Same here! No love for silver? I'm not into Tiffany and their peers, but I love vintage Taxco. The new pieces are pretty, but the older designs blow me away. My worst jewelry decision was c. 5 years ago not buying a Pineda matchstick necklace with the matching bracelet for next to nothing in a little shop that had no clue what it was. Mr. Lubina offered 2x to buy it even to go back and get it after we left but I said no because I was sick. After that I do not let fever and chills affect jewelry purchasing decisions and he has carte blanche to bring home anything he sees.

Fun thread! Here are mine:

-- Buying a David Yurman quattrefoil necklace at the DY outlet in Sunrise, FL. I had always loved the design but missed it when it was in retail stores. Saw the pendant, thought about it too long, flew back home, called the store two weeks later to find they had sold that one but gotten another in. They shipped it to me and I've worn it almost every day since (and that was about 7 years ago!). A few days ago, an SA in a high-end watch store asked me if it was VCA.

-- My e-ring and wedding band, which have always suited me perfectly and 18 years later, I've never had the desire to upgrade.

-- NOT resetting the diamond studs I inherited from my grandmother into something else. When I got them, I wore only dangly earrings and seriously considered resetting the diamonds into something else, but I couldn't decide what. Fast forward a few years and those suckers are in my ears 90% of the time.

-- Add me to the list of those who love silver jewelry -- I love the clean, modern look, and can afford more edgy designs that I wouldn't want to invest in for the cost of white gold or platinum. But I am glad I decided to stop buying cheap stuff, like Alex and Ani bracelets, or Stella and Dot. It's fun, but I tire of it quickly and would rather save up a bit more and buy a sterling silver bangle.

Do you have a picture of the David yurman it sounds delightful

1. Buying my Rolex at 20% discount and Breitlings both at almost 40%. Never found deals like that again.

2. No more Tiffany silver. Skipped Tiffany for my e-ring as well and went with a smaller family company.

3. Buying fewer, better pieces.

For me, it's any of the pieces that I really loved but thought they were too expensive, and then saved up for. That $$$ money hurdle always made me justify it more so those are the pieces I really love!
