Being Banned From Coach Stores - Did You Read?

6 ITEMS per year. But of course they don't care what you get at their tent sale. I've seen Coach's policy in action as well, and I've also seen people come in definitely oversees, and being waited on like princesses, so a couple thousand dollar purchase or 6 wristlets or whatever is nothing compared to $10,000 in one shopping trip.

How many of you at Xmas time buy Coach gifts for all at the outlets. I do, and for my employees too!!

Thats crazy they banned you because for my friends wedding she had me pick up multiple keyfobs and cell phone charms at the outlet for all 9 of the bridesmaids in June. They didn't seem to care and even asked them about the 3 item limit since I was buying 3 times that. The manager said since i'm a "regular" and don't normally buy multiples that they are able to make exceptions. I was a little worried after that because I wasn't sure if what she told me was true but I haven't been given a letter thankfully. I would die if I got banned omg.

You know, this is sounding more and more like an individual SA or manager is the one to raise the "red flag" on buying patterns here - if they can "make an exception for a regular", it's obviously not an automated system that flags the multiple purchases.

What disturbs me is on many occasions I've heard SA's at the outlets saying things like "these are only $15, you can get a bunch as Christmas gifts!" It makes me wonder how many unsuspecting people get "the letter" after being given the impression it's okay to buy a bunch of the same thing.

If it's 3+ of the same item on many occasions, I can see that putting up a red flag, but every once in a while should not be a problem.... and really it should be like 5 or more of the same item, not 3.

This is weird, and totally completely makes NO sense to me.

First I've gotta say I'm sorry you got banned. If it happened to me, I'd cry. I never purchase multiple items, so I guess I don't run the risk or ever getting banned.

I just don't understand. Many people have purchased multiple items over 3 and have never gotten the letter. It has to be an issue with the SA maybe reporting you? I've heard so many different stories from the SA's at my outlet, and they speak constantly of a woman who comes in and spends thousands at a clip, and she makes over 100,000 a year reselling on *Bay. I'm curious why the hell she hasn't been banned yet. They talk about it like it's cool and ok. I was stunned when I first heard this and I even told the SA that I didn't think it was right, of course I got no response. I saw a woman purchase 4 of the same bag not too long ago. I understand Coach fully sending the letter to people in a sense, I just don't understand why you received it, if you're not comstantly buying multiple items for resale. I'm puzzled.

well they probably havent banned that woman who spends thousands at a time because she is spending thousands at a time, not spending a couple hundred then returning some of it.

Earlier this year I was on a major Coach binge, buying SOOO much stuff! One time I tried to buy 4 wallets at the outlet because they were on super duper clearance for like $35 a piece. And the SA told me I could only buy 3 of each item, so I bought 3. I have since bought 3 of various items that were good deals. I spent a few thousand dollars in a few months at the outlet.

I came across a thread on tpf about "the letter" soon after that and it really scared me. So the next time I was at the boutique I asked the manager about "the letter". He told me that it's people that buy multiples of the same item often and also people that return lots of things WITHOUT the receipt. But as with most "policies" at Coach, it seems to be up to the individual SA or manager to enforce some of these things. I don't think anyone gets automatically flagged or banned, but someone would have to turn your info in to corp.

I still buy multiple accessories at a time when they are a good deal and I don't worry about it. It's probably certain stores/managers that feel the need to over-enforce this policy and ban people unnecessarily. Most of us here have nothing to worry about. If I got "the letter" for buying a few keyfobs, I would definitely fight it. That is ridiculous! Honestly, I think there may be a little more to this story than we're hearing. But I may be wrong. :shrugs:

It sounds to me like it's just the pattern of buying multiples all the time. Like the first poster who got the letter was buying a lot of Coach and sending them overseas to family since Coach is costlier there.

If it's just the SA or Manager that flags a person, what's to stop someone from going to multiple stores and buying 3's of that item anyway? I also think it gets flagged in the system because they always take your info when you buy. I don't know anyone who really does cash transactions because of the cost, as that would be the only time you can decline having your info put in the system.

I have seen many women at my outlet purchasing lots of multiple bags and they are obviously purchasing to resell them and have never witnessed anyone being challenged by an SA. Like many of you if I find a good deal I like to buy several to give us gifts. If Coach were to give me "the letter", I would let them have an earful and would NEVER purchase from them again. I would find another brand to love....one that appreciates my business. Coach needs to get over themselves.

I went to the outlet today after reading this thread the last couple days, anyways I asked the SA's and they said there is a 3 limit, but that they only really care if its a hot,new item or a 40% or more off item or if they see you stocking up on multiples regularly. and another SA said or if you treat us mean or snotty then she laughed. so I have a feeling it is both Computor generated and negative referal.

Honestly, I think there may be a little more to this story than we're hearing. But I may be wrong. :shrugs:

I wonder as well. I can't believe anyone would have to worry about buying a handful of cell phone charms for bridesmaid gifts like one person posted. I mean, accessories are cheap and I definitely give them out as gifts too! Maybe they look out for very discounted items too because people would stand to make some money out of reselling those? It would be a shame to receive the letter after doing exactly what Coach wants...buying their items for yourself or as gifts!!
