I'm just totally in the bag acquiring head space again. That's the part I want free of again asap. I'm not sure what triggered... Well maybe I do know, the change of seasons and closet revamp, switching my rotation to be spring appropriate and clearing out the deep winter attire and generally culling the closet. I started culling my UN-used bags and then I had funds and I thought why not spend it on bags I would actually use? And it began.......

I am less on ban island than I am at handbag peace. Of course I browse all of the time, that is why I am on this forum and everywhere else I browse, because I love handbags. I don't yearn for any though, I just love to bags for the sake of being a solid handbag fan. Loving to know what others love is part of the whole experience. There is a lot to learn about handbags in general and buying doesn't have to be a part of the hobby. I have an interest in the handbags carried in certain TV series and reading up on what is going on with certain handbag houses, etc. etc. Handbag peace came when I finally took a good hard look at my lifestyle and bought only those bags that meet my lifestyle needs.

I am getting better at looking at my needs vs. wants. I am not completely there yet, but I am improving. When I dog paddled away from the island just recently I found a bag by Sam Edelman at a discount store. It had so many of the things I've been looking for in bags recently that I purchased it. It isn't a lux brand, but I am so enjoying it. It goes crossbody or shoulder carry (with a separate short strap), has beautiful leather, is light weight, and (bonus points) is in a color I didn't have..well, I probably do have it buried somewhere in my closet. I find I am moving toward either crossbody or backpacks, and also into smaller (but not mini) bags these days.

I am trying to be more thoughtful of what I truly need, rather than just what is on trend or strikes my fancy because it is cute. I am learning these skills by being here on the island with you all. By asking questions of others about needs when considering a purchase, it helps me to do the same.

Hi everyone,

I am officially putting it out in TPF universe that I am on ban island. I was doing so well this year with curbing spending and then things got out of hand when I laid eyes on the Gucci ophidia. I did buy her because I justified it to myself that I am selling a Dior WOC that I never use. Now, you all need to hold me accountable to start the arduous process of listing and selling that woc.

With that said, I need to be on ban island until my birthday in October. I would like to treat myself to a special purchase around that time *if my other financial goals are achieved or on track to achieve by end of year.

My ban is not just handbags, it is all luxury items such as shoes, slgs, and even clothing. The only exception would be clothing pieces to fill voids in my wardrobe.

I love having accountability so I’m relying on posting here for that. Gotta love TPF, as some of my family would just call me crazy . Ok and so it begins! Step one is selling that WOC!

Welcome to the island! I am an October baby, too! You can do this. There is a good bunch here to keep you centered. I find that I am more of a visitor than a resident, but I am trying to move in on a more permanent basis.

I am just tickled that I haven't bought a luxury bag since January 5.

I’m joining the ban island. My husband was upset when he saw my latest purse purchase Friday evening (I had just had a hard workout and I thought a purse was a lovely way to reward myself [emoji14]). I’ve bought five purses this year. So for the time being, no purses, new or pre-loved. Hoping that being part of this group will keep on the wagon.

Sell that WOC! Best of luck on your sales! [emoji4]

Haha thanks for the welcome to the neighborhood! I’m relying on this humor and encouragement to keep me on track! It’s good to know others are in the same boat!

Welcome! Yes I know the exact feeling. Purses are such nice little treats after accomplishments! But, as with everything, moderation is key. So we need to reign it in for now. We can do this!

Ok, I did a little wading today...BUT, the bags remained in the store! The shoes?? Well, they followed me home! Can I keep them? I'll take good care of them! I'll walk them and everything!

I am house/petsitting for a friend for two weeks while she goes and meets her not quite two week old granddaughter. She happens to live near a Nordie's Rack. I had to stop in on my way to her house. I am on the hunt for a black purse, but it must meet my requirements. I am debating if it will be lux or not. If I decide on lux, I will hold off for a while to let my budget catch up with my head. Something I ought to do anyway!

So, I am here at my friend's house with her two dogs and my sewing machine. I suppose I could make a black bag! Too bad this machine won't handle leather very well. BUT, no hubby to bother me if I go shopping.......

The first four months of my Ban went so well and now the last two is a struggle! We haven’t had a TMO in a long time, so here I am submitting mine... everyone, talk me out of it!
  • Item: Dior Panarea tote, preowned, discontinued
  • Why do you want this specific item?: I carry totes a lot now that I’ve moved to Singapore (lifestyle change) and I now love the idea of a luxe but casual tote. I own two Diors but I consider them to be dressier bags that I would wear for specific occasions like going out with my girlfriends. I envision this one being one I can carry to the mall on weekends wearing flip flops. It’s coated canvas, so it’s casual but it has the Dior charms which I adore. In addition, the specific bag i’m looking at is in a color I consider unique and in good condition imo.
  • What comparable items do you have in your collection?: I already own a number of totes, of which three are used on a regular basis. Most of them are in the workhorse category and have various conditions of wear.
  • Have you tested it out in person?: No, but I know the dimensions will work. I have also seen the bag modeled before by several TPFers and know I would like it.
  • What is making you pause/create a TMO in the first place?: 1) So...this is a bag that has known problems with the handles. Several people have complained about peeling handles and I have also seen this problem with many of the bags put up for resale. The bag I am interested in has handles in good condition. But why do I want a bag that could potentially give me a headache? Am I up to doing my own repairs down the road? 2) Do I really want/need this bag? If I did, would I be writing this TMO? But maybe it says that I am controlling my impulses better that I am still respecting my Ban.

I am hesitating to respond since I don't think I can do a TMO with conviction on this particular bag - because I have this bag, and I have this handle issue and yet I want to get one that is in a better condition. Maybe go back to the reason why you are on a ban. Can you not wait? If this particular piece is still available by then, then it's for you. If not available, maybe another one in good condition will come along.
