The first four months of my Ban went so well and now the last two is a struggle! We haven’t had a TMO in a long time, so here I am submitting mine... everyone, talk me out of it!
  • Item: Dior Panarea tote, preowned, discontinued
  • Why do you want this specific item?: I carry totes a lot now that I’ve moved to Singapore (lifestyle change) and I now love the idea of a luxe but casual tote. I own two Diors but I consider them to be dressier bags that I would wear for specific occasions like going out with my girlfriends. I envision this one being one I can carry to the mall on weekends wearing flip flops. It’s coated canvas, so it’s casual but it has the Dior charms which I adore. In addition, the specific bag i’m looking at is in a color I consider unique and in good condition imo.
  • What comparable items do you have in your collection?: I already own a number of totes, of which three are used on a regular basis. Most of them are in the workhorse category and have various conditions of wear.
  • Have you tested it out in person?: No, but I know the dimensions will work. I have also seen the bag modeled before by several TPFers and know I would like it.
  • What is making you pause/create a TMO in the first place?: 1) So...this is a bag that has known problems with the handles. Several people have complained about peeling handles and I have also seen this problem with many of the bags put up for resale. The bag I am interested in has handles in good condition. But why do I want a bag that could potentially give me a headache? Am I up to doing my own repairs down the road? 2) Do I really want/need this bag? If I did, would I be writing this TMO? But maybe it says that I am controlling my impulses better that I am still respecting my Ban.
As someone generally "pro-acquisition" depending, it sounds like this is one which - with the handle issues - sounds like you'd be thinking of that every time you carried it! I certainly would! I'd be aggravated that I'm highly aware of its impending (potential) demise... and research an analogous bag w/out handle issues!

(EDIT, AFTER LOOKING UP BAG:
Um. It IS gorgeous! But still on the handles. Maybe you can make a deal w yourself that if you find it in great condition under $xxx... then. BUT ONLY THEN! ... and still research a 'better' option for yourself.)

Unless you have a handy, talented cobbler on call, I’d pass on the Dior tote because it will be a headache.

I am hesitating to respond since I don't think I can do a TMO with conviction on this particular bag - because I have this bag, and I have this handle issue and yet I want to get one that is in a better condition. Maybe go back to the reason why you are on a ban. Can you not wait? If this particular piece is still available by then, then it's for you. If not available, maybe another one in good condition will come along.

Thanks for all the TMOs, they are helping me stay strong! So my reflection on the matter is that 1) it’s a want, not a need, and 2) I want to keep my ban. It’s only 6 more weeks until June so I know I can do it. Maybe in 6 weeks I will have moved on to something else and the strong impulse won’t be there anymore.

I won’t rule out this bag if the price drops or if I find one in great condition. I actually found a premium bag repair shop recently, but obviously I don’t want to buy bags that need repair right away. I’m going to test them out with my Granville first.

Man my talented and cheap cobbler nearby is such an enabler in my thinking process because I can imagine him easily and inexpensively doing all kinds of leather alterations if needed on items......

Your cobbler is REALLY good! The zipper he put on your Angelica, wow... Makes you wonder what else he can do!

I know, right?? I wondered if anyone had noticed that when I posted about it. No one would ever know that the mods he makes are not the way the bag always was. And he charges so little.

Makes me a little brave when it comes to second hand bags though, if there are adjustments I would need.
Or, likely to skip certain closure and strap attachment mods through MM if I can get them done for way less locally.

I didn't just wade into the waters...I took a motorboat and sped away. Reveal will be over in the Coach forum. I found my black bag.

Will be back on island shortly. I need to be done for a while. Gosh, I don't think I can afford this house/pet sitting gig!
Whoops - it must have been a Coach day…. I fell into the waters too.
I'll look for your reveal!

I had a crappy manicure week or actually my own manicures almost always look crap after a day.
So because of you two enablers @Sparkletastic @soramillay I ordered butter London Nail polish and seche vite top coat.
I hope it works out to give my French manicure more staying power. I'm really good at painting them on free hand but 6 hours later it starts to chip.....Arghhhh.

Polish doesn't stay on mine either - grumble.
I started using OPI Nail Envy, and you can paint over it - it seems to help.

Good luck! I always had chips within a day. Then when I used Seche Vite I could get 4-5 days. Now I go to the nail salon for dip powder (SNS) over my nails. Lasts two weeks but I go weekly to change up colors without the growth of my nails showing.

I did a google search and found out what they were.
I got excited and thought about trying an at home kit because it looks easy but then I read about removal. Oh heck no. No no no. It's the same as with other systems I've tried and I can't deal. If it takes half an hour then I'm out. I love just swabbing my nails with remover and it's all done in seconds. But I love the idea of stronger nails. I have to cut mine to the quick because they start shredding, at least my index fingers, if they get any longer and that's not cute. However, it's more hygenic to keep super short nails and my quick hot soapy hand washes are more effective without nails for stuff to hide in. My girls are in daycare and with lice and pinworms forever a threat I feel more relaxed with super duper short nails. That way I don't feel like I need a nail brush every time I wash my hands all day long. Plus they roughhouse with me so wildly that occasionally a nail stabs them by accident if they are not short, so that's another plus. They don't look elegant this short so that's why I do a French manicure and fake the look of length that way with thick white 'ends' covering 30% of my nails that gives the illusion of lady like nails.

I just painted them because the product I use to do my girls' hair: IMG_1524301949.321908.jpg
Ruins my nail polish, it doesn't wash off somehow. But the hairdos last the entire day or even a second so....

The skin around my cuticles looks awful because I pick at them and they are in the process of healing right now. But not bad for free hand French manicure on nails cut to the quick right?
I just need the polish not to start chipping within hours, so I'm excited to get the recommended polishes that are already on their way to me.
