Back to topic I'm going to come back to ban island soon, I've recently bought 2 new MM SLGs, 2 Etsy mini crossbodies, 2 used MMs from lovely TPFers, and 2 custom bags from Laurel Dasso two months ago that I'll get in July when I'm stateside. That's 6-8 bags in 2018 that I'll have by the 4th of July, most in the next couple weeks, and my number goal for the whole year was 3-5 so I've already exceeded that at the halfway mark of the year.
However I've sent off 6 bags (also to lovely TPFers) and most of these were paid for by the funds from those sales so I'm not sure how to count things because I had planned on purchasing 3-5 bags in 2018 in new money and so far I haven't bought any bags with new money and my closet is not getting more cluttered (actually less because I've been selling big bags and buying little bags to adapt to my changing needs 6.)
But the point of my plan from December to have 90 day bans with brief reprieves in between to order a bag in spring, for summer, for my autumn birthday, for Black Friday; was to spend little mental energy on plotting bag purchases, not quite so much about the money since my comfort zone for purchases in my sloppy mommy life living in a country with really messy, muddy, rainy autumns and springs and klutZ like tendencies is under$500 so I don't stress carrying my bags since they don't cost thousands. My two year old yesterday wiped her tomato sauce face on an upholstered chair and it could have easily been a leather bag, the twirp, my bags are usually hanging at her face level, so I gotta keep it low key. Plus I like variety and I'd rather have 5 contemporary bags than 1 premiere.

Anyway.... I think I'll say that I bought one bag for spring and the rest was churn that broke the spirit of my ban but whatever. I'll start now to go another 90 days and then think about one new birthday bag with new money and I've pretty much churned out bags I want gone at this point so I'm not going to end up with new PayPal burning a hole in my pocket anymore so I'm just going to try to stop thinking about bags I could buy. I'm done. Spring wardrobe refresh was borderline but it's done and I was anyway going to be off ban in spring for a week and it lasted a month instead but whatever. Moving on. I have 2-4 more allowed pure purchases for the rest of 2018 and I'll try to keep it at the lower end of that and only if I'm absolutely in love with a bag and only for birthday and Christmas when I'm between 90 day ban stints.

Whew. Okay thanks for letting me say this stuff out loud.

Ruins my nail polish, it doesn't wash off somehow. But the hairdos last the entire day or even a second so....

The braids you do are beautiful! Do you do them everyday or just for special events like festivals?

Also here’s my nails at 2 weeks. Not so shiny from the battering they take from household chores but not a single chip! This is Knackered (purple-green duochrome shift) over Londoner (navy blue). I used Revlon’s top coat which was just okayyy, it didn’t peel or anything. Still trying to get hold of Seche Vite.

About exceeding your quota for the year, well you can say you kept to the ban time you assigned yourself and you have plans for more 90 day bans. The point in the end is to feel more in control.

After 6 months on the island, I went off for a bit to buy a bag that reminds me of my late aunt’s gardens. Once I get it, it’ll be 6 months from that date till my next bag.

I had also sold a bag this month making it a 1 in 1 out as well.

I like how my purchases are no longer impulsive or on a whim.

[emoji4] best of luck for others on ban island!

Well done for achieving your 6 month ban, bake! i think it’s a lovely gesture to buy a bag that reminds you of your late aunt. I agree you have excellent control now. Your visit to Fashionphile proves the case as you resisted all the gorgeous bags. I don’t know if I could have done the same!

The wall of bags was so beautiful there! I tried on every single one. It was nice to see what sizes would and wouldn’t work for me. [emoji4]

I thought it would take me the whole year to be less impulsive, but I am glad it didn’t have to take so long. I’m planning and being pickier with my shopping so I don’t make more mistakes.

I just made eight months on my not-really-a-ban. I have my eye on a couple of things but I’m pretty bag content. However, I did decide to sell the one bag I own about which I’m meh.

(Mr. Sparkle was instrumental in this decision as he is quite tired of hearing me whine about it and desperately wants me to get something... anything... to replace it. LOL!)

Lol mr. Sparkle lol

The Science Of Why You Should Spend Your Money On Experiences, Not Things

“One of the enemies of happiness is adaptation,” says Dr. Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University who has been studying the question of money and happiness for over two decades. “We buy things to make us happy, and we succeed. But only for a while. New things are exciting to us at first, but then we adapt to them.”

(WHAT is DIP POWDER?!!!?):confused1:
Its just another nail color product. It goes over your natural nails and gives color and a bit of strength. Upside is it lasts longer than polish and adds a little strength. Downside is that if you have untrained tech your nails can be made thin over time. So you have to get a good tech. And IMO let your nails rest every now and again.

Here’s a video:

I HATE spending time on girly / grooming stuff but love being well groomed. LOL! (this is why I do my own hair 90% of the time. I’d go nuts in the hair salon on the regular.) So I like that I can go once a week or even once every two weeks if I’m busy and not have to think about nails.

I 100% agree with this!!! I love nice things but, experiences like classes, trips, entertaining friends, etc. are so much more fulfilling! So, I only buy the few nice thing I really can love and then I’m done with “stuff”.

I’ve been gravitating towards experiences, even inexpensive ones lately which has helped during the 6 months I stayed on ban island. Just kept going places with DBF and my dog. [emoji4] Even planning the next thing to do is much more interesting than hunting down another bag now.

Thanks for the info!!! Can't wait to see-

Thinking of traveling with my family helps me to refrain from spending money for stuff.
Haven‘t bought new clothes in a while and no shoes. Bags are my only weakness right now.

I did buy clothes recently but I’m trying to not buy so often, just like I’m doing with bags.

Pretty much trying to figure how minimal I can get on everything. It’s made packing for trips so much easier when you really don’t need much of anything! [emoji4]

(I TOTALLY get that this isn't the nail thread, but since somehow I missed these inner-relevant posts somehow, probably because I've been reading these underground and some display and some don't  )

Polish doesn't stay on mine either - grumble.
I started using OPI Nail Envy, and you can paint over it - it seems to help.

Good luck! I always had chips within a day. Then when I used Seche Vite I could get 4-5 days. Now I go to the nail salon for dip powder (SNS) over my nails. Lasts two weeks but I go weekly to change up colors without the growth of my nails showing.

I did a google search and found out what they were.
I got excited and thought about trying an at home kit because it looks easy but then I read about removal. Oh heck no. No no no. It's the same as with other systems I've tried and I can't deal. If it takes half an hour then I'm out. I love just swabbing my nails with remover and it's all done in seconds. But I love the idea of stronger nails. I have to cut mine to the quick because they start shredding, at least my index fingers, if they get any longer and that's not cute. However, it's more hygenic to keep super short nails and my quick hot soapy hand washes are more effective without nails for stuff to hide in. My girls are in daycare and with lice and pinworms forever a threat I feel more relaxed with super duper short nails. That way I don't feel like I need a nail brush every time I wash my hands all day long. Plus they roughhouse with me so wildly that occasionally a nail stabs them by accident if they are not short, so that's another plus. They don't look elegant this short so that's why I do a French manicure and fake the look of length that way with thick white 'ends' covering 30% of my nails that gives the illusion of lady like nails.

The skin around my cuticles looks awful because I pick at them and they are in the process of healing right now. But not bad for free hand French manicure on nails cut to the quick right?
I just need the polish not to start chipping within hours, so I'm excited to get the recommended polishes that are already on their way to me.

@Sparkletastic , just saw the video- HUH!!! do you think it's actually easy to do at home, or a major project?! Midway in I thought it was easily doable, but after the 6+ coats plus filing (I'm reeeeally impatient), I think my hands would spasm, ruining all that work!!! I'm still going to investigate, though!

@HopelessBagGirl , wow, what elaborate hairdos!!! I wk w two ppl who come in with really complicated-looking updos regularly and marvel.
@soramillay , I LOVE Knackered!!! I think I've actually bought/returned it twice. Only bc I can't figure out when/if I could actually wear this polish in my life. I really love looking at it though. That being said, I've been on this crazy iridescent kick and bought some color club iridescents!!! I've already earmarked whom I'll be passing them on to if I decide they're too 'much' for my daily lifestyle. They just arrived yesterday, so I'm excited to try them out once I have a sec in a few weeks!

So back to dips, are they really hard on your nails? I'm afraid of the removal process, as I've learned this weakens my nails drastically. I already have a problem keeping my nails strong and not peeling in winter (due to all my hand-washing), since I'm banging at them constantly. So for those who've mentioned this, I've experimented through the years, and the only thing that works for me 100% and is easily removable is Essie Gel Setter over whatever, multiple coats. The bottle thickens easily, but well worth it if you're rough on your hands. I love it, and would buy it by the case if possible.

Aaand back to bags: I'm not on a ban, but am on an 'Awareness'... and acquired an e/w leather D&G satchel (one to replace my gorgeous deep red really really old but useful sub sub contemporary bag I never used, but used the black one to death, as I had listed them both this year, with the idea that I'd love a quality-version of the red one, and lo and behold, it showed up on TRR! Should arrive today...)

... then on my iridescents-kick found a white inexpensive clutch I love. Replaced it due to scratches; found a black holo tote version!!! Mind you, I already have a deep blue version of this tote, and LOVE it. With all my colored winter coats, I kept finding that I couldn't carry the blue one since it clashes with all my non black/white coats!

On the nails. I’d never try it at home. LOL! This was just the first video I found that showed some of the process. I haven’t found that it weakened my nails. I think it’s important to go to someone who knows what they’re doing. That being said, I do give my nails a “break” every couple months or so just in case.

I really fell off the wagon. Last Sunday, I went to a consignment shop and bought two bags, a black small Le Pliage and a RM saddle bag (which I kinda don't want now and may sell?). Then this afternoon, I bought a small Le Pliage Miaou bag from the Longchamp site because 1) I was suprised how much I loved the black one (I totally get the love for that bag now) and 2) cats! *sigh* I gonna have to leave all my cards at home and use strictly cash. I've also put myself on a firm six month bag ban.

Sale season is around the corner and I always have a hard time resisting all the great sales whether it’s chanel, net a porter, Burberry etc. Anyone have any tips on not going overboard? :)
