Joining and aiming to not purchase anything until the end of the year or just ONE more bag max this year. Went to the outlets today to buy clothes and shoes for my kids. I saw 2 Miu Miu bags that were highly discounted and I started to think, oh these are so pretty.. What if I don't see them again? Almost got them but I realized it would be such an impulse purchase. Resisted and hoping to stay strong!

Congratulations, Taho, on resisting an impulse purchase!

OK, I've gone 15 days since my last bag purchase (or any purchase, but my ban is bags). It seems much longer for some reason.

I find it so easy to rationalize purchases when I have trips coming up. I was considering this one when I picked out my last purchase. Argh!

Is a backpack a bag???? :p
What is it about traveling that tempts us to shop?

Right? It's silly, really. Traveling just seems to be my "let loose" signal, and if I am flying it is my reason for getting new totes and bags. I have a closet full of totes and bags, but the next one will be better for on the plane or going through airports! Oh, and don't forget all the new clothes I'll need for a trip! Yes, because I have absolutely nothing to wear in my overstuffed closet.....dear me.

Can I get an AMEN? I, too, "have a thing for coats!" They are stashed all over our house. In our coat closet (back entry), in our front coat closet (supposedly for company), and what I'm currently wearing in my locker.

Inquiring minds want to know, what is the perfect bag??? And do you have a pic? :graucho:

Lol thanks, Can do Mom, for making me smile. Get ready for a story.

So MY perfect bag happens to be the Louis Vuitton Sully PM. I know many people don’t like this bag for one reason or another, but I absolutely LOVE it. I love everything about the bag, from the strap, to the zippers, to the way it hangs...I could go on. I have the PM and MM, but feel the PM is best for everyday use and the MM is best for me for trips. Every time I switch bags I miss using my Sully. But I need to switch because sometimes I need a crossbody because I have two young kids. I kept thinking I wish the Sully had a crossbody and had feet. I don’t know how I found it, but the LV Audacieuse PM is pretty much a Sully in leather, with feet, AND has a crossbody strap!! The Audacieuse is discontinued so when I saw a new one, I went for it. This is why I’m thinking I’ll let go of some bags. I don’t really want to have too many bags but kept looking for something better than the Sully and haven’t found it. I kept buying bags in different colors and brands thinking I might want to branch out. I bought the new LV Graceful and think it’s lovely but feel the Sully is still better. I bought a balenciaga small city because i wanted a red bag, but those tassels are so annoying i haven’t used it. I no longer use my Proenza Schouler PS1 Pouch because i prefer my Sully. I was thinking of selling my Sully PM but decided I’d rather keep it and Sell the other bags that don’t bring me as much joy. Many people don’t understand why some people buy the same bag in different sizes, but for me, when I find something I like, I’m good. I don’t know why I kept searching for more bags, but I’m over looking for more stuff. I want to see how things go with my Sully and Audacieuse this year. What I no longer reach for will be gone.

I do that but like while I’m traveling. All of a sudden the trip means I can shop with no restrictions haha.

Yep. That's one of the reasons I fly carry-on. Ha ha! Self imposed restrictions. Although, TBH, whenever I go overseas I am planning on shopping and so I have started checking one suitcase so that I can bring liquids (and other purchases) home. I have items I wear when I travel that don't really get worn at home. Especially shoes. My "ugly" Clarks Mary Janes have been everywhere but I wouldn't wear them here. They're not pretty but my feet are grateful for the endless miles of comfort provided.

Oh, it's while I am traveling as well! Then I get home and get the bill.....:wtf::panic:
Oh yeah, there's always that shocker... Have you ever read Confessions of a Shopaholic? That book is laugh out loud funny! She gets her cc bill and believes her card has been stolen because there are so many charges on it (all hers, of course, conveniently forgotten).

[emoji85] I check two empty suitcases when I travel, knowing DBF and I will fill them up on the return. Oftentimes, we have to check 3 bags total and pay the extra fee. (Yeah, we have to go buy a suitcase or pack a duffle to get that third bag)

I manage to pack super light when I travel, because I want the extra space in my carry on for the expensive stuff and to make it easy on me for customs haha.

The first time I was returning from an overseas trip I literally looked like the Michelin man. My small suitcase was stuffed and I wore many layers. Of course I was chosen to be searched. I thought when they opened my bag that I wouldn't be able to zip it closed, but I did. Ever since, even if I fly carry on I pack another bag in my suitcase so that I have an extra. ;)

I love stories, B22! And that is fantastic that you have found your holy grail bag! I think your new bag looks so handsome in the pic. Is that the color you got?

I am slowly working on reducing the size of my bag collection. Sloooowwwly!

I've not read the book, but maybe I'll have to get it for my trip.

There's no way I can do carry-on. I just cannot pack light. One time I tried, and while putting my bag in the overhead I nearly dropped it on an elderly gentleman sitting on the aisle. I mean it was quite close! So, I learned I am best to risk the lost luggage and check it. This trip I'll be gone for nearly five weeks, and I am going to Florida AND Missouri just for good measure. So I need to pack winter wear just for those five days. Not that I truly have winter wear, as I live in coastal Southern California. My idea of winter wear is putting on socks. I did just dig out a pair of those tiny gloves that explained to fit, though!

I have arthritis in my feet, so I have to pack my big fake-ugg type slippers. I cannot live without them any time of year. Plus I have to switch off shoes on different days, so that is at least two pair. I am also bringing fabric and sewing supplies for some projects with my sister. We both sew. Add in my toiletries and one suitcase is already full. No clothing is in the pile yet. :O Fortunately sis has a washer and dryer.

I really do need to learn the art of packing light.

Cocoa bean, have a wonderful trip! Please don't beat yourself up. Packing light is not for everyone. Truthfully, it means making concessions and not everyone wants to do that. When we went abroad last summer we spent a few days in Iceland. We all flew carry-on because there were four of us and rental cars are super pricey in Iceland so we were in a clown car, lol. The trunk was tiny! Anyway, Iceland was the only chilly part of the trip so I didn't pack much for warm clothing because it's bulky. That meant being cold in Iceland at times. Then, get this, we are in France and Germany and the weather was unbelievably hot! Way above the average temps that I had planned and packed for. I bought a couple tops in Germany and wore the heck out of my one pair of shorts (I only threw those in at the last moment) and one dress I had packed.

I make a list and pack early before a trip which gives me time to fine tune my list. I save my packing lists which can be helpful to refer back to when packing for my next destination.

Ha! I just saw my typo of explaining gloves. That would be a hoot, eh?

I like the idea of lists. I try, then fail. I pack early, and that just means I keep adding to the pile. My sis can pack very light, I cannot. When we travel together it's a comedy to watch. Her with her one small suitcase and purse, and me with a HUGE suitcase that always teeters on the edge of overweight, a large carry-on bag, and my personal item (which is generally a LARGE purse). She has the worst luck with checked baggage, so she doesn't do it unless she absolutely must. Yet when we go to leave a hotel I am always waiting for her. She claims it is because she is nice and lets me have the bathroom first. I suspect it is because she must pack carefully to fit it all in her small suitcase. I just shove! But let me tell you, I can fit some STUFF in a suitcase.

Fortunately, this time of year in Florida is great weather for leggings and tunics. They don't take up much space. We'll be at a quilt retreat in Missouri, so rotating sweats and a pair of jeans will work.
