Hello all!! Today is my 19th day without a bag purchase. My goal is to make it through my upcoming trip to Florida without a purse purchase. I'll be home from that on March 7.

Update from me....

I withstood the urge for the backpack I mentioned earlier in the thread. It is now a mild desire, and not such a craving. Whew! Dodged the bullet on that one.

I do have a confession (NOT shopping related!). I've read back through this entire thread. There are some great ideas for not adding to one's collection, but...I admit that I googled all the lovely bags that were mentioned. Tempt myself much? But I was able to say to myself that as beautiful as they are, I don't need them. I can enjoy their photos.

I've been eyeing some SLGs, but I really need to consider what I have. I need to take stock of what I need for organization in my bags for travel. Sometimes I over organize, and cannot find a thing. Or I start organized, and end up with things I've used just tossed back into my tote after use.

Can you tell I don't fly much? I stress so much about being so put together, that I end up just being a big mess! DH and I normally vacation in our motorhome, so I don't need the planned packing and carry-on of flying.

Anyway, I think planning out the pouches I'll need will help the SLG urge, even though I am only on bag ban. Keeping expenditures down is never a bad thing. If I find I need a pouch, I have permission to purchase. I do not have permission "just because."

You don’t need that many SLGs when traveling either as it can add unnecessary weight.

I have one for electronics (toiletry pouch 26), one for non liquid beauty products and travel sized medication (lesportsac pouch), and the reusable quart size bag for liquids. [emoji4] If I know I may be far from my hotel room, I use my cles to hold some allergy meds, glasses cleaner, and a pain reliever.

But I don’t worry much if I forget anything, you pretty much can buy anything you forget wherever you go.

@happy27 that’s amazing!!! Talk about will power!

@More bags wow you’re doing so awesome too!

@Cocoabean I hear you, packing for travels stress me out too. I’ve finally realized though that packing cubes and really care free pouches, like the free ones @can_do_mom mentioned are the best for me because I just throw stuff in and then don’t even worry if they get dirty or not cuz they didn’t cost me anything - and the less worried I am about messing them up, the less I’m likely to. Now when I need to buy cosmetics or skincare, I wait to see if there are any promos happening that give me pouches haha.

@HopelessBagGirl way to go!!

I think I've lost the shopping obsession completely. At least for now. I'm not even switching my bag daily. I am in it for a week even when it does not go well with my outfit.

Is this what its like to be normal???? Feels weird: like I'm forgetting something major. Like a kid at the airport.

Oh dear, are you okay??
Just kidding, wish I could say the same [emoji3]....

Yay on the cooling of the shopping obsession. :flowers:

Everyone's "normal" is different. I haven't bought a new add in 6 months and I'm not motivated to buy. But, I still happily rotate daily to compliment my outfit. Other people will wear the same bag for 6 months. So, just let it flow and find your perfect rhythm.

Using pouches or small cases can help you organize your travel tote. You might not even need to buy any if you save the freebies you get from gifts with purchases. (The little pouches that come with perfume or makeup purchases). Happy travels!

Interesting you say this. I got into my freebie stash, and used some of them for chargers and cords. I am so OCD I bring extras of lightning cords and ear buds. Plus one extra charging block. I might need to reconsider that; my attempt to pack lighter isn't working so far. :p

See? That is what I mean when I say I over organize. I would end up with each item in its own pouch if left to my own vices.

I LOVE packing cubes. I've been using them for clothing for the past couple of years.

What I discovered I needed was just a small holder for earbuds and a charging cable only for on the airplane. As I said in my original post about SLGs, I gave myself permission to purchase. I went on the hunt.....

I was on the Goodwill auction site and found a Coach wristlet that had two zip pockets. Perfect! Only $10.00.

Now I just remembered I forgot about my noise canceling headphones that I purchased at the airport during my last trip due to screaming children on a flight.....It came without a case. So now I search my existing things for a case. Ultimately I'd like one that will hold the buds, headphones, and charging cable with pockets for the buds and cable, so that they don't get tangled. I found something online that would be perfect, but in my effort to shop less, I am giving myself some time to consider it. I am also shopping my closet to find something I have large enough for the headphones and the wristlet with the buds and cable inside.

Oh the horrors of making it work.

Thank you all for listening to (reading) my rambling. You actually are helping me to shop less.

Could you post what SLGs you have to work with? Maybe gathering everything you think needs a case and then gathering what SLGs you have could help figure out which can fit in what you already have!

I think I have it! Drat it all, I don't get to purchase the pouch I was eyeballing. Well, it will still be there when ban is over. If I still want it, I can get it then.

Here is what I found. Purple is my favorite color. The solid purple was a gimme from Younique makeup my niece was selling. It has the headphones and one extra lightning cable and earbuds that are wrapped up. The two little pouches will have the in-use lightning cable and earbuds. I can place them inside the purple pouch open, slide the cords in, and BAM!, good to go. The little pouches are from a trip to Las Vegas hubs and I did last October. They have dragons on them, something I collect.

I still have the coach wristlet coming. I've been looking for a change purse. Hopefully this will work for that, or substitute for the buds/cord.

P.S. I made the paisley-ish bag on the bottom of the last pic. One of my first sewing projects. :)

Noise canceling headphones are a godsend when traveling. For so many reasons. Screaming children being one. I have the tiniest MP3 player and earbuds. I know, I’m old school. I also have the larger headphones that fit over my ears. I’ve been traveling with them less lately however as the ear buds seem to drown out the outside noises just fine and are so much smaller.

Looks like you’re doing a great job of pulling everything together for your trip. I need to start planning for my Vegas trip next month. It’s a work trip, only five days. Long days on my feet so finding the sweet spot for footwear is tricky. We are buying at fashion markets so I really don’t want to wear ugly shoes, lol!

Ooohhh, Las Vegas! Working trip, but still fun. So many stores, so little time...maybe that's a good thing! DH and I ate at Gordon Ramsay Steak while we were there. Rib Cap steak was most excellent!

One suitcase full and no clothes packed! That's me. I prefer earbuds, but I'll have the noise canceling with me for emergencies. Last trip I had a toddler behind me who was either kicking my seat, or screaming her head off. Mom let her kick my seat most of the time. I guess she decided I should take one for the team to let other passengers enjoy the silence. She never apologized....nice. I'd have probably been fine with it if she had. I am sure it was a rough trip for her.

I'll start putting clothing together soon. I have a doctor's appointment in Los Angeles on Thursday, so I'll be leaving Wednesday, and returning home Friday. I leave for my big trip the following Monday. You can see how long it took me just to pack chargers and cords...imagine the clothes! Sometimes I do better to wait until the last minute, and just toss stuff into the suitcase!!

I also have to pack for LA! Woohoo! I'll be a big mess by the end of this....

I normally pack early for a trip (international). The downside - I tend to add and add. And then last minute I will pull stuff out. Sometimes it ends well. Sometimes I would need an item that I pulled out.
