Bags You Thought About Purchasing & Glad You Didn’t

Balenciaga City. I was madly into this style but kept seeing photos of how badly they wear and tear.
They do pick up wear somewhat easily but if you’re a fairly cautious and safe bag user (like myself as i live for cities) i wouldn’t expect any detrimental damages to the bag early on in use. i never run into any problems aside from really only dirtying the handles and them losing their shape a bit. I think secondhand they’re totally worth the money and hype!

For me for a long I wanted a Proenza PS1 for years. I saw the olsens and everyone else with one just like i did that city and was drawn to it in a very similar way. I always just end up thinking that it won’t match up to the way my balenciaga and celine bags feel to me, therefore wouldn’t get any use from me.

Usability and simplicity are the main factors I look at when buying a bag along with having character that’s why my top brands for handbags would be balenciaga and celine. Love the way they feel to carry.

Hermès Evelyne is not for me. I bought one and try as I might, it really is not my style. Too casual for me. I sold it. I am more of a shoulder strap type of person. I like bags that go from shoulder to crossbody. Chanel fit the bill for me!

1)Chanel classic flap. I prefer the 2.55, mini flaps, and wocs because I can wear them anywhere with anything and somehow it works. I also love that these can be worn crossbody....if I bought the classic flap it would have just been a decorative piece in my closet.

2) mini lady dior. This bag is beautiful and probably the most ladylike bag out there, but I feel like I would have to dress up to wear the bag and that is a dealbreaker for me. The bag should complement my existing wardrobe and not my fantasy wardrobe.

3) fendi Mini peekaboo. I find it a bit heavy though I love this bag from afar.

4) Celine classic “box” bag. it’s heavy and the leather is too delicate for me.

5) Neverfull in azur. I didn’t want to worry about vachetta darkening, aging, water spots. I bought the Goyard St. Louis instead and love it to pieces!

Years ago, I thought that I wanted a Chanel Boy handbag, but am really glad that I didn't purchase one as I am no longer interested in that handbag.
That’s funny..It was the opposite for me...For years I thought the boy was too masculine and bulky for me, but I recently purchased one because I found it in a combination that I love and now I’m in love with the style!

I probably have more bags that I’ve bought and regretted than bags I’m glad I stayed away from. But here are a few:

Lady Dior mini - gorgeous bag overall but the dangling charms would annoy me and they can’t be removed.

Celine box bag - I’m looking for a classic, sleek box bag and this one would be great because the branding is not obvious on it, but overall it’s just too boring.

Chanel classic flap in medium - the older style of these bags doesn’t bother me, but the length of the strap on this size does.

Fendi demi jours - liked this bag a lot when it was first released but after stalking it for awhile and trying it on, I disliked how the back was so different than the front, and it seemed overall too boxy and stiff for its size/shape.

Alma bb in canvas. I kept putting it off and nowadays I am just not into monogram (neither mono nor Damier ebene) and neither is my social circle so I would’ve never worn it. It’s a nice bag and I’d consider it in a leather version but nowadays my money goes to Chanel and Hermes. Only Lv canvas bag I have is a speedy b 30 in de which is my rainy day bag due to the canvas and coated leather

The Alma bb in epi leather is the only LV bag I own. Ithink it’s worth owning as it has a different aesthetic than C &H and I have a feeling the price of it will drastically increase in the next year or two.

I know I should never say never. My tastes? I don't care much for the big three. I know they're classic but they don't make my heart sing. Maybe it's because I'm too young to appreciate it.

1. Chanel Classic Flap: A teenage dream of mine was to own this bag, but my lifestyle doesn't suit it. I attend semi-formal events maybe every 3-5 years. I've come to the realisation that if I want a nice evening bag, I could rent that.

2. Bottega Veneta Pouch: I'm down for the odd impractical bag but the proportions of this one is too much for me and it's hard to carry. I did contemplate this for a hot minute, at least the mini, but upon inspecting it in person... it was a definite no. I was also interested in the Casette but I realise it's not my style either. I came out of BV thinking about the mini Jodie. I wouldn't buy it for myself but if someone asked me where it's at? It's mini Jodie.

3. Celine Belt: I still think it's a gorgeous bag but it's heavy if you're going appropriate tote size. Unlike the others, I think I'm more likely to change my mind on this one.

I have so many, but the recent ones that come to mind:

LV Capucines MM - the shape is beautiful but I'm concerned about the weight, and how open the flap can be (a bag that I can quickly open is important to me as I like taking stuff in and out all the time). Additionally for a bag of that stature/weight, the shoulder strap is suspiciously on the slim side. I faced a problem with the City Steamer (now sold) where the thin strap really makes you feel how hefty the bag is with all the stuff in it and I ended up preferring some other bag every time I contemplated taking it out.

Guirlande de Cartier small - tbh I'm still on the fence about this once, not taking it off the wishlist yet but it has a similar flap construction as the Capucines and I'm not too confident about how much stuff it can contain. It's pretty much a jewel-box type of bag, pretty to look at and for special occasions, but probably not the everyday bag I'd like most if not all bags in my collection to be. The medium might be worth considering? But I feel the larger size doesn't suit the intention of the original design. Also I'm concerned that Cartier prices for restoration/repair can be steep, judging by the pricelist for their watch service...? There aren't many reviews of this bag in various sizes so I'm hesitating to take the plunge.

Ralph Lauren RL50 - Loved it because it looks like a birkin, but then again I decided against it because it looked too much like it, I guess, for it to be a distinct bag.

I think I'm over these (?) .... lol

1) Dior Book Tote - love the size, the fabric, the way it looks but can't justify the price for what it is

2) Dior Saddle in Blue Navy Oblique Jacquard - although I wasn't sold on the shape at first I do love a good monogram but again, can't justify the price for what it is - Dior is a bit overpriced in general imo

3) Loewe Raffia Tote - I'm still so in love with this bag (huge sucker for raffia stuff) and the price isn't bad for designer but at the end of the day it is just a straw bag...and I don't know how comfortable I'd be bringing a $600 straw bag to the beach/pool and possibly get it wet and dirty

4) Chanel Classic Flap in Black medium size - oh Chanel...I have such a toxic relationship with you lol. I remember being in my early-mid 20s and not interested in this bag at all because the style felt oldish then the Boy came out and I was head over heels for it but I didn't know my homework for designer bags at the time so even though I could've afford it I never bought it then years went by and last year I don't know what came over me (the pandemic is the culprit lol) I had a sudden strong urge to buy designer bags in general and towards the end of the year I was back to looking at the CF again! Tried on so many, searched high and low and was so close to buying one but again, didn't! Then...Reissue 2.55 226 came in my life and just like that I bought my first Chanel  The Reissue was everything I was looking for and more. The chain strap is the perfect length for crossbody wear (I'm 5'8), the leather is durable (aged calfskin), the style is more understated, edgy and contemporary and the size is a perfect inbetween of a CF medium and large. Everything about it is just so perfect. I wish I had looked more eagerly in my 20s or even bought the Reissue on impulse because the price right now is just a bit ridiculous and to think all the money I woud've saved (or make) but oh well. Not planning to sell my Reissue though. I just love it so much

now I'm still debating these...

1) Gucci 1955 Horsebit GG Shoulder Bag in Brown/Canvas (that monogram again lol)
2) YSL Lou Lou Puffer in Small colour undecided
3) a discontinued CD New Lock Flap Bag
