Bags you don't get

Agree! I buy, use and enjoy bags for myself! Not to compare to compete with others.
Completely agree with you. I see a common theme as I read a lot of these posts that people are making their bags an extension of their identities, which is pretty sad to witness. And who cares who else has it. This chase of trying to be unique and spend all that money to have of what others don’t have is a bottomless pit and shows a lot of low self-steem

I think it's also a bit of a misnomer to say that everybody has the Neverfull, because it's a 1000 EUR. bag, or more, (I think?). Not everybody has a bag that costs that much  But in the world of luxury bags, it can sure feel like a lot of people are carrying them. And if they love them, why care what others think.

Personally I don't get monogram or branding galore but prefer bags with no or very discreet branding, letting the design speak for itself. Like the Balenciaga City  , Loewe Puzzle, PS or Chanel Reissue. But I also know that many bag lovers think my hugest bag love the City belongs best in this thread which is pretty amusing to me :amuse:

I wasn’t a fan of the Neverfull until I actually tried one on, now I have 2 and it’s one my favorite bags. It’s just so simple, comfortable and perfect for work, travel or as a diaper bag.

Bags I don’t get are,
The Balenciaga ikea looking shopping tote bag
The Chanel girl bag
See through bags (Chanel has a bunch this season)
Furry/Hairy bags
Bags with bugs on them

not quite that i DON'T GET it, but i seriously struggle to understand the hype about H Evelyne
to me that ugly canvas strap looks so wrong, it's too wide, NON-leather on a full leather bag, and it's not a mid-level range bag, it's one of the highest ends bags - Hermes, why couldn't they do a proper leather strap??? :confused1:
how can that huge strap be comfortable to wear xbody??

I think it's because it's a utility bag, originally made in 1978 to carry brushes and sponges for your horse/s, hence the air holes and I guess the canvas strap. I remember carrying my horse grooming stuff in a plastic bucket

To be honest, I have a hard time getting Hermès at all, mainly because of the hoops buyers seem to be made to jump through for H to deign to sell them their very very expensive bags. It's humiliating to me and also a bit sadistic :frown:

pay THAT much and wait for aeons?? no, thanks! :nono:

Haha this is how I *felt* I looked when I just wore a maxi flap [emoji16]
 I don't think it would look very flattering on you either. I bought a Maxi years ago. Don't know what the hell got into me, since I have always been of the opinion that the Jumbo was already too big on me! Yup, one of my moments of insanity :smash:, but I got it straighten out.

I don't get why everyone carrying a neverfull doesn't mind that everyone else is carrying the same bag.
I've always wondered the same thing.

For me with the Neverfull (or other wildly popular bags) it’s not about the fact that everyone has it or that it’s a competition. It’s that when “everyone” has anything, I get eye fatigue. I get kind of bored with it.

I don’t want to see the same bag over and over and if I do, I don’t want it on me or near me. LOL! But again it’s not about others. It’s about me liking variety. This is why I rotate bags in my own collection. If I wear the same bag over and over, eventually I’ll want to throw it out a window. However, if I wear a bag now and again (no more than say 6ish times in a month), I will love it for years.

Also, while definitely not a proper building block of self, whatever we wear, say or do, is an expression of our personal brands and by extension - our identities. And, that is a fun thing.

(Specifically for me, the Neverfull doesn’t have internal organization so it’s not a great option functionally. But that is a little off topic for these posts.)

It'd be similar for me if luxury handbag handles were made of pine wood instead I guess. A bit "rustic". Also, in Europe many are trying to make cork happen, but I just can't see it as bag material...

OT: I'll say one area where bamboo is clearly superior though to any other material I've tried, socks. Compared to cotton socks bamboo socks are amazingly soft and resilient to wear. There's some back and forth on whether they are environmentally friendly or unfriendly but until that is decided, I'm wearing them.
Oooh! Bamboo socks! I want to try!
I don’t get Goyard. The plastic looking material reminds me of baby changing pads.
 LOL! I think the baby changing pads look better.

@SomethingGoodCanWork , thanks for the insight on the E. Still not buying it. LOL!
@ksuromax - I completely agree. The canvas strap does NOT work for me. (but then I don’t like any canvas on bags.) This alone keeps the E from being a high end bag in my mind.

And, +10,000 on how the hoop jumping kills the desirability of the brand for me. I really like the Kelly but, the brand is a bit of a turn off so I’ve held off. I waffle - I could see loving the bag but I’m not sure if I can get over how the brand is positioned. We’ll see. Never say never but, it’s just hard to stomach. If I go into a Dior, they treat me like I’m their first, best and only customer. So to have to earn the favor of another brand...

Doesn’t bother me at all; I love the bag. It’s practical, holds a ton and is lightweight and durable. It doesn’t surprise me that others agree. I see more LC Le Pliage bags than NFs around. I carry those as well.
