Bag Production Post-C-Virus

Thank you for your insight. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if there was indeed a leather shortage! I do wish that our SA’s would be more forthcoming with the issues that they are dealing with. I would have even greater loyalty to the brand if they were just upfront with me. Having been a loyal client for many years and still continuing to support the brand even with no offers, it’s getting a bit disappointing. My messages when I inquire about anything but a bag are quickly responded too. The messages where I inquire about a bag sit unanswered. Perhaps it’s just my SA?

I have been told that Hermes has come out and said that they will produce fewer leather bags due to COVID. So at least there was that…

honestly it’s sometimes hard to read the bag offers thread. It sounds like it’s raining bags on the world to everyone but me…

This is why I shifted my spending from H to VCA and Cartier. I don't want to stress myself over a bag that's almost impossible to get due to pandemic. Maybe I'll resume my love for H when everything returns to normal but right now, I'm quite content with my small H collection. Maybe I'm getting old or my taste is changing, but I get more satisfaction from fine jewelries than a leather bag as of the moment.

Anybody knows if the bag production would resume after the craftsmen are back from summer vacation?

Thank you. Although, I’m not shy or scared to ask. I’ve been a loyal customer of Hermes for years and have been very loyal this year as well. It’s my first year that I have had zero bag offers for it to be so late in the year. It’s been frustrating to me and like I said, it’s not for lack of supporting the brand. I ask for a bag every other conversation I have with my SA and I get the standard canned response from her that “I’ll keep you in mind”. Im trying to figure out if I need a new SA or if this is normal right now. ‍♀️
Also, I know, first world problems right? Seems so silly with everything going on in our world!

Same here! Mostly VCA! It’s becoming my next addiction which isn’t good. Lol. Enjoy your new jewelry! I think many of us, even the most loyal H customers are beginning to discover other brands at this point.

Yesssssss!!! I feel you!! Raining bags for everyone but me………maybe it’s a sign to just move on and be happy with my collection as well. Although like I mentioned before, after being such a loyal customer for so long, transparency would be nice. ‍♀️

There is always chanel and Dior RTW and VCA; Verdura Belperron; and, Bulgari jewelry and other obsessions

SAs (Dior, chanel, Hermes, and brunello boutique in my case) have said theyve never been busier. This is a result of the wealthy customers getting wealthier during covid and, not being able to travel, those customers shop more. SA sales goals are even higher per shift (presumably the luxury companies have to make up for 2020 IDK). Its just natural and better business for the coveted items (not just H and chanel bags, but even the most popular RTW) to go to the super high spenders who have become regulars.

Of course, if someone comes in who wants to furnish one or two homes in H furniture (and not go toPaltrona Frau where much of the furniture is made), the SM is going to approve more offers to that customer. I’ve been shopping H since 2008 with a hiatus when my SA left, (my current SA knew my previous one very well) so I’m taking this time to wear and use what I have. the furor will die down and things will get back to normal eventually!

I don't see why it wouldn't be the case. Also, there are craftsmen still producing bags and leather products throughout August, albeit in limited quantities. Not everyone in France gets to enjoy holidays in August...

Some people just up their spending to try to be prioritised in their bag request. I don’t think I compete in such a way.

A friend of mine was told that there will be no bag shipment in the next 3 months (she is in the US and has been having good relationship with her SA for years). Hermes has been selling so well this year they decided to pause bag shipment until 2022 to maintain scarcity

How can H not have any bag shipments to the US in next 3 months ?
I think many clients are still waiting for their bags (esp. quota bags) to appear before the Christmas holiday.

I agree and don’t think this is true… more likely, it’s become just that much harder to get an offer because many people are spending more on non-quota bag categories, and the competition is higher. Will Hermes not ship any bags to the NJ boutique it opened just a few weeks ago? Will there be 0 bags available for Christmas for a VIP who goes to the Madison boutique?
SAs have always been endlessly inventive in devising tall tales that explain why the customer can’t get what they want.
Also, to “maintain scarcity:” Birkins and Kelly’s sold just as easily before, and I don’t think H has made any more of them now than in the recent past, so why wouldn’t they just keep selling the same quantity they have? If anything, they are even scarcer now - just look at reseller prices. That makes no sense.
This claim also seems to belie H’s assertion that they have no idea what comes in their shipments when

I had a somewhat frank and honest discussion with my SA this past weekend. She said inventory has gotten so bad this year and they were told it will be worse next year. Honestly, even though I'm at more than 1:1 spend right now for my next quota bag, I don't see the point of trying anymore. I may just have to ride out the wave or maybe even just give up on Hermes forever if this continues on.

For those who are temporarily shifting away from Hermes due ot scarcity, how are you maintaining your relationship with your SA so that s/he doesn't forget you? Or should I just plan to start all over when I decide to jump back in the game?
