@Moniqq if you don’t have time, it’s best not to play the Hermes game.

It’s not even easy to buy some of their “stuff” anymore. Eg waiting 4months and counting for a change tray, 5 months for a wallet, 9 months and counting for a piece of fine jewellery (100% deposit paid). Unless you buy what you see at the shop which you may not like. Depending on what is the store policy, you may not be able to buy duplicates, need to spend across categories to build a nice profile, etc etc.

Then it’s another waiting game of 3, 6, 9 or even 12 months to get the bag you like.
Right??!! I ordered a chaine d’ancre back in February. My SA said that she could put in a custom order from Paris and it’s been 10 months and I am still waiting. Never again!!! I had to wait 3 months for a pair of santorini sandals. It takes a lot of patience and no wonder the SAs get annoyed. She said that a lot of their products were stuck at the port. Go figure

Totally understand how you feel.

I have waited at least 3 months for a silk in wallet. Finally heard news of it.
Nowadays, even homeware needs to order with deposit by default.

Actually is there anyone who can enlighten me how goods get stuck at the port? So far I have ordered and received goods via sea and air shipping. Sometimes there are delays but not major. Within expectations as we are still not out of the woods. Just a genuine question to appreciate the severity of global logistics issue.
Thanks in advance!

I agree with what you are thinking. 'Stuck at the port' seems an unlikely reason.
However, in the UK, for various legitimate reasons (covid isolation, brexit legislation, or lack of) there has been a shortage of lorry drivers. Containers, some carrying perishable goods, have been literally piling up at some if our ports waiting to be cleared. That is just one country and I doubt it is the only one. Even so, it should not account for delays of months.

Can't totally answer your question but I spoke with a customer service rep at another company who indicated that an item I ordered a looong time ago was sitting in a container on a ship stuck at the port. The ship could not dock nor be unloaded. The item is now en route to me but it was sitting on a ship for an extended period.

That makes sense depending on the country. Unfortunately you'd have to chalk it up to global supply chain issues.

My dad said there’s been a shortage in shipping carrier capacity in US and Asia as well…

This article breaks it down. Through a series of global events because of the pandemic supply chain has had a huge distribution that can be felt by the shortage of gas/petrol in the UK, inflation in food prices globally and even our handbags. Covid shut down factories that mine the metals in our bags, the tanneries that make leather. Shortage in labor has left major ports jammed with containers and no one to unload and drive them. Those workers who were either lost their jobs or realized they didn’t want to work 16hr shifts found other work so they can see their families once again as they did in lockdown. Cost for freight shipping of large containers has gone up 4-10x. It’s crazy. And it’s not going to go away overnight. Anyone else have furniture orders delayed months? Notice some store are empty of certain products? See all the help wanted signs? Sorry probably not for this forum but thought I’d share.

Thank you for the articles. I really enjoy reading them!

I have also read the communication by Hermes for their Analyst Day on 8 Dec. In the Leather and Saddlery section, they mentioned that more than 60% of its products made in their internal and exclusive workshops and 80% of their products made in France. I think the leather tanneries which they sourced their leathers from are also sourced in France. That translates to Low carbon footprint hopefully. Effectively, the pricing for bags exported could only be affected by foreign exchange and shipping of the bags to the stores worldwide. Let’s hope the price increase is not as horrendous as Chanel.

is it true that there is a letter shortage and that is preventing us from getting the beauty bags?

is there a thread on the hermes game/communication tip?
