Bag Insults - Ever Had One?

No one likes my LV Graffiti Speedy in pink. Oh well.
My son came home from school and said "Mom, please tell me you didn't spend money on that! I can go to Hobby Lobby and buy spray paint and get the same look for a lot less!!!"

LOL I would see this as funny rather than an insult if it came from my child. I've heard all kinds of funny comments pertaining to my bags. Just today he said to me..." just to think a lamb's butt was died to make that thing.:p

I've never had a bag insult in my life and I'm amazed that anybody should feel the need to insult anybody elses bag at all!:wtf:

That said, I never really engage in any conversation about any bag I carry. If someone comments (thankfully usually nicely) on it, I thank them and then if they get into cost etc. I just say I can't remember or that it was a gift and swiftly move on saying that I like it too and kill the conversation depending on how it's going. I think it's the cost query that would immediately make me wish to stop the conversation about it tbh. Unless it was my best friend who wouldn't give a d*mn I'd be loathe to get into a whole discussion about it all.

People can be so judgemental and I personally can do without it.

If anyone ever did slam me because of my handbag, I think I'd be very shaken but absolutely livid at their attitude. But ignore, ignore, ignore - those people obviously have problems that go way further than handbags.

I've recently asked my cousin how much she paid for her Choloe paraty. But I was just really interested, not meant to insult her or anything because I myself am a bagaholic, too. It's a surprise to me that a lot of people on this thread consider this question to be rude! I should be careful next time so my cousin wouldn't think I am a freak.

I think what a lot of TPFers find offensive is when the question of cost is followed by a self-righteous remark along the lines of, "I would never spend that much on a bag." I'm sure your cousin wouldn't be offended in the context you've just described, and neither would most people on this forum. :smile1:

I remember showing my new bag to my roommate and her giving me a weird look.

I also remember her eyes popping out over the price.
Her: You paid $150 for a bag?!
Me: It was originally $500. That's a deal, imo.
Her: You're weird.

My brother literally just asked me why I don't just buy fakes. He seriously suggested me going down to Mexico and buying a bunch of fakes and lying about it. Then seconds later my mom got upset that I bought a botkier jackie satchel (amazing sale) and then asked to borrow it! Seriously?!

I gotten one recently but I'm glad I handled the rude situation in a calm manner.

I visited my ex-colleagues and one of them know that I am going to Shanghai for a short holiday in a few days. I was carrying my chanel salmon pink patent flap that day. She told me this, " Shanghai has even nicer fake chanel bags than yours." I was turned-off by this sentence, but I told myself not to answer her back directly, so i just went oh okay.

However, Im glad my another colleague stood out for me by saying, "How can you compare real and fake."

That sounds just like me and my friends.
Me: I found a Fendi bag I've been dying for that was originally $850 and now its only $300, I want it.
Her: You'd pay $300 for another bag?
Me: but that's over $500 off, how could you turn that down?! Such a good deal! :p

My coworkers don't understand at all though. I constantly get hounded by the main girl I work with in our office, she always says she would never pay more than $50 on a purse.

To each her own.

I've gotten the bag insult about carrying Coach. I went into Neiman Marcus while carrying a plain black leather Coach and started looking around at the bags. Two sales associates were talking and one said, "If she carries that cheap Coach crap, then you know she won't buy anything in here." And she was right. I left the store. I got something similar from a sales associate at Barney's (only that one felt the need to point out that I was too fat for the clothes in the store while insulting my bag).
