Bag Insults - Ever Had One?

I got one today, but it was snide comments whispered so I "wouldn't" hear.

A coworker pointed out "Nice bag!" And I asked how she knew that one was mine, she said "Only you would be carrying a big name bag amongst us."

And some of my other coworkers looked at my bag turned to each other, scoffed and said "How spoiled!" "She drives a Mercedes and buys expensive things, why does she bother working here."

That really hurt. We were supposed to be buddies and be trusting and all that. :/

... maybe thats why you're working. lol are people who loves bags and drives a mercedes supposed to work at a certain place?

I've been lucky and haven't received too many comments from huffy people like this about purses/shoes. However, I can't say the same when it comes to dogs. You'd be floored at some of the rude things people say when they ask how much your dog is and when you say $3500 - they look at you like you've got three heads, then insult the dog, and say they'd never pay $ for a dog - only mutts are worth anything! Argh - people!

Funny you say that because I was thinking of a time that a coworker asked me how much my bag cost me. I personally think it's rude to ask such a thing but I politely replied "it was more than I want to admit.", to which she replied "OMG! I would NEVER spend a lot of money on a purse!" To which I replied "I would NEVER take out a loan at a "quicky loan joint" to buy a dog!" She has NEVER said anything about my beautiful, expensive bags again!

It is why I work! So I can buy myself one nice bag every year and pay the gas to drive the Merc. I guess I shouldn't be working at school, but at some fancy place where everyone drives a luxury car and carries big named bags?

I thought it was rather rude for them to judge my reasons to work and spend my money, while I don't even think twice about what they do with their money.

^that is quite ridiculous. people are just really nervy sometimes. but its actually funny if you think about it. we can be judgmental about their spending habits but we dont say anything because we can care less.

In the 11th grade (I'm a college sophomore now), my homeroom teacher asked if my Burberry bag was "real". I guess that's the most insulting comment I've ever received. I guess I was even more surprised that my TEACHER of all people would ask such a thing! Maybe she really thought I could afford the tuition, but not purchase a Burberry bag, lol. (Don't take the last sentence out of context -- it was bad phrasing, hopefully the point is clear... literally, I don't know why she asked or even cared).

Oh since I started spending on me especially my bags, my friends and random strangers have felt the need to comment on my bags.

Friend to me in front of another friend
Her-tell her how much you paid for that bag!
me-why? neither of you paid for it.
her to friend- she's going NUTS with what she pays for bags

same friend with her lover at my house
her-where did you go last weekend?
me- hubby took me to coach to look for a bag
the look she gave me OMG it was horrible even the guy was taken back, he says "her husband took her to look for a bag, not a sex slave" LOL

With strangers they like my bags, they ask where I bought it, I tell them the designer and the comments that come after  always about what they think I paid for the bag or how expensive the designer is, did I ask for a commentary on my shopping habits?

well, i'd never be rude like that, but people do feel that buying a purebread dog is a bit selfish considering that there are so many in shelters and pounds that would be put to death if they don't find an owner.

I had a garage sale a few years ago and among the items for sale I thought I'd try to sell the coach bags that I had not used in years. Ok, so maybe not the best idea, but I didn't really think anything of it at the time since I live in an upper class neighborhood. Among the many visitors that day was a woman who was specifically interested in the Coach handbags. She inspected each one carefully and for a long time, she was acting like a quality control inspector, when she was done, she announced loudly that all of my Coachs were fakes and made in China. I know they're not fakes, since I purchased them all from a Coach boutique and as I tried to assure her of this she just kept calling them fakes. So, did I sell any purses that day? Not one, could've been because it was the wrong forum for them (seemed like a good idea at the time), or it could've been the rooster that kept crowing "fake"! In the mean time I stuck them back in the closet and still haven't gotten around to selling them.

well i think many "peasants" (like a gay friend of mine would put it) don't get the artistry of fashion, nor do they understand the beauty in the creation of such art.

a cousin of mine once asked me if i would have bought the same chanel bag if it wasn't chanel or if it was sold at a disgusting warehouse specializing in knock-offs... and that really isn't the point now is it?

uhm..what..?

So far, my friends have never really commented on my designer bags (cause maybe they want them too ;) and they probably know how much they cost roughly.

But way back when I was still in my non-designer bag days, I had comments and remarks about my taste in bags. I love the hardware in bags, especially gold-tone. Studs, buckles, tassels and all that. I also love the linings in bags.

One time I was wearing my non-designer, synthetic leather hobo bag that I actually liked (it had studs, nice zipper and great bright green satin lining, so striking against the black color of my bag) and one of my friends made a comment that it was a rocker bag -- and that my style was one too. (p.s: not a good remark in my language) Plus they kept telling me that cause I've always liked accessories -- earrings, necklaces, rings, etc. Also I am very fond of high-heels -- a minimum of 4" is a must for me. So they made jokes about those too. How my shoes are like porn-shoes. Btw, they are not, they're just high.

I love my friends, but sometimes I just want to scream, it's called fashion, you morons!! :shrugs:

The Botkier Bianca .. my ex bf saw it and asked when I took up bowling and told me it was ridiculous, my husband said it was the ugliest bag he had ever seen. I sold it immediately.

Am I missing something? Who do you (and your friend) consider as 'peasants'?
