Bag Insults - Ever Had One?

Yes, I think it was very rude but it only shows her ignorance about the subject, most people know what LV is but only us "bagsnobs" appreciate sophisticated but understated brands and that is the point no? Just stand up for what you like, of course I say this but it can be hurtful when people say things so I only talk to and show my bags to other bagsnobs and even then I try to be careful because of jealousy issues.

My male friend: 'Oh you have a new bag! Isn't that a brand from China?'. Me: 'No, it's not, it's Italian but made in Turkey'. My male friend: 'But the name Miu Miu sounds Chinese!'. Me: 'Hahahahahaha'. :noggin:

Do people ever insult your bag's aesthetic? I think that would be really rude! Wasn't directed toward me but were recently at an engagement party and some of my mom's friends asked her why she brought her "cheap" Coach logo bag? Apparently it wasn't fancy enough for the party - I thought it was rude especially since it was a gift.

Actually...just this morning I did. From a close relative of all people too. My Grandma (mom's mom) tells me (on the phone while I'm @ work mind you) that I "lack common sense" because I spend "ALL that money" on bags and sunglasses when I should be "saving to buy a house for my kids."

Her statement pissed me off on so many different levels. Brought me to tears actually. My designer collection is very humble...I'm down to 2 LV bags, 1 Miu Miu bag and 1 Francesco Biasia bag, various SLG's, 1 pair Chanel sunglasses, 1 pair LV sunglasses, 1 pair Gucci sunglasses, 1 pair Valentino sunglasses and 2 pair of CL heels. The last 2-3 bags that I've acquired have all been pre-owned. And I've sold many items from my collection within this past year.

Secondly...I am divorced since 2006, I have 2 children and I rent a condo. I do not want to buy a house anytime in the near future. My kids NEVER go without. I NEVER need to or ask to borrow money (thank god!). I work full time. Always have.

I SO wanted to tell her exactly what I thought of her accusations. How "common sense" has absolutely NOTHING to do with my small designer collection. But she's my Grandma. So I just bit my tongue and hung up the phone.

My husband: "Does this ever end? " (pertaining to my closet full of bags)

My mother: "Don't you ever save?" (duh? I already put her on an allotment. she doesn't seem to complain about the fact that I'm giving her money every month)

My sister: " I will never pay that much for a bag...but wait, can I borrow it sometime?" (very annoying. my reply has always been, "...you make more than I do. Why don't you buy one yourself?)

A sister of mine told me one funny story that I want to share. She's a flight attendant for Delta, and she's obsessed with shoes. One day she had an argument with a lady in first class. The lady was being rude to my sister, and my sister wanted to take her off the plane at that point. She called the attention of the pilot (who happened to be my sister's husband), and upon looking at the lady, my BIL smiled. He simply replied, "Lady, if you don't stop complaining, I will tell everybody here that you are wearing last season's shoes!" She immediately just sat down, and kept silent the rest of the flight.

It's funny how easily women get distracted! :P

Oh gosh, I hate accusatory attitudes like this. She obviously doesn't know your situation...don't let it bring you down! :hugs:

EVERYONE splurges on something or another, could be artwork, expensive cars, camera gear, or designer purses :) I can't stand when someone gives me crap about purse collecting, it's not like they don't spend $$ on something I would never buy! Each to their own :D

It's so hard when older relatives slam us, because we can't be rude to them. Keep in mind that things were different "in her day" and that on many levels she can't relate.

It was awesome of you to take the high road.

:flowers:

Well Said!!! Some people it's crafting, scrapbooking, fishing, bikes, watches...etc. Folks need to look in the mirror before making rude comments about our bags dang it! ;):p

OMG! That's a total riot!!! ROFL!

Not really an insult to my bag but...I dressed up my speedy with a ponytail scarf (tied it up into a bow)..one of my colleague commented that it looked like a bow from a gift basket..I really didn't know what to say to that..
