I used to have a large Treesje Marley bag in chrome and a male relative made the comment 'what's up with the Battlestar Gallactica bag?' I sold it soon after that comment because everytime I looked at the bag that's all I could think of! LOL! I bet some of you won't even know what show I'm talking about, it's a sci-fi series from the late 70's/early 80's. Anyway...too funny! ;)

I have always loved purses and I would always get complimented on them. When I went to college my mother told me not to take my expensive ones b/c people may get jealous or they may get stolen, but I took them anyway.

One day I was carrying my new Gucci horsebit and I getting a lot of compliments on her and out of nowhere my "friend" says, "I hate when people wear purses with logos on them! They just want people to know how much money they have and besides they're ugly!"

JEALOUS! :bagslap:

Haha...that is kind of funny! BF either loves or hates the bags I have. Sometimes he says funny things like, "Why does that bag have thimbles on it???" lolol He was talking about my Balenciaga Day with Giant Silver Hardware...they do kind of look like thimbles!

i got that "thimbles" thing a lot w/ my Bal PT. but it didn't bother me at all. i felt that's what makes it unique and for them to talk about my precious bag. then, they would start talking about how much it costs; and how they can't imagine themselves spending so much on JUST some bags. know what? i would later find out they are eyeing to buy the same bags as mine! i just dunno what to think anymore....:confused1::thinkin::weird:

I have a few bags that i find either get lots of love or they get insulted.

My prada ostrich bag has embellishments o them. My husband say it looks like a craft project gone wrong. Maybe it does but i like it.

Some of my larger fur bags et the most insults.

My Fendi skunk bag et so much attention. it seems to get either love or hate. Its big & fur and it may offend people because of that. Its my favorit bag though.

My Gucci fox and rabbit bag gets almost the same reaction as my skunk bag. its also big & folks sometime get offened by fur items. its one of my favorite bags though.
My Fendi beaver fur Dr bag gets insulted. people think it looks like a bear. It sort of does buti like it.

I try not to let others opinions of what I do, what I wear or carry bother me. If what people thing of my fashion is ny biggest problem then I'm living a charmed life. Life is to short for that sort of drama. Live and let live is my motto.

In a place where we used to work, we had a TV in the reception area. I had just come into work one day carrying my bag and there was a shopping program on.

The lady had a bag like mine in a different color and announced the price, which was around $900 at the time for a Marc Jacobs multipocket bag. One of my colleagues (who was into handbags) saw it and said to me "OMG that is just like YOUR bag. How awesome that it is on TV." One of the other coworkers gave me the stinkiest look and rolled her eyes and said "I can't believe you would pay that much for a bag. How stupid."

That was a dumb thing for her to say, considering that she had just purchased a luxury car, and then filed bankruptcy to avoid paying for it, and everyone knew because she would have long LOUD conversations with her attorney on the phone at work.

I looked her straight in the eye and announced to the whole room "It may be a lot to pay, but I believe in only buying things I can pay for."

Dead silence. Then she stalked out of the room and we never had to hear about her legal woes again at the office. Or nasty comments about anyone's bag, either.:D

haha that's GOLD... go you! Wish I could think on my feet when people make stupid comments. Never been good with the comebacks so loved reading about your incident :)

I'm drawn to unusually shaped bags so when we went to get my second designer bag together (a gift from him for becoming a lawyer finally, I've very hard to buy for) my other half would articulate his thoughts about certain bags being flower pot shaped or shopping basket etc but it was FINE as I got the one I wanted and he was the one paying for once :)
I still get odd comments about my not-your-standard-shaped bags but I'm not bothered in the least as I know he eventually thinks they suit me to the T and it wouldn't bother me / others didn't as I love MY bags.

I, like almost all of you, get the blatant  "is that real" and "how much did you pay for that".
We should all come up with a really clever response to that question, especially when it's from random nobodies!
I don't know how effective "it was a gift" would be as they'd probably follow it up with something about authenticity. Aside from that, haven't really got any insults as such.

This happened about a year ago. I was invited to a Private Closed Door Sale for Jean Richard Watches. As i was not working that day, decided to dress down so wear a polo tee with short & sandals as it just a casual day out, decided to carry a simple black Fendi Duffle which i rarely use. It is a huge rectangular duffle made of Fendi Monogram Jacquard Canvas with Leather handles. When i was browsing the watches, someone called my name, it's an Investment Banker friend of mine, he got invited too. He is obviously working as he is in his suit, he probably nearby that why he popped by. He suddenly said, "What bag are you carrying?, it look abit girly." I replied, "Excuse me, this is a Fendi Duffle, it is actually a travelling or gym bag." Then he replied," I see, didn't know Fendi got Men's Collection thought it's meant for girls, it's ugly. How much is it?" I replied," Well it cost about 1 grand, i am going to supermarket later, it's my grocery bag" He replied,"I see." I immediately buy a watch which i was looking at, a Limited Edition JeanRichard MV Agusta Chronoscope Brutale chronographs in rose gold which cost about 13 grands after marked down from original value of about 20 grands. Than i said,"So you not getting anything?" He replied,"Times are bad, so expensive i couldn't afford." I smiled & replied,"You cannot afford who can? Spend lesser on drinks & ladies, you can buy the whole tray of watches with such high salary you are having." He paused awhile then replied,"I got to go, got client's appointment, catch you soon."

I was so angry, stupid toad wearing Ermenegildo Zegna suit, Alexander Mcqueen glasses, Ferragamo shoes with Bell & Ross watch tell me he got no money, oh yah he lack of a designer bag, no wonder he cannot understand FENDI. Never felt so insulted especially by such a repulsive toad. If my Fendi bag is ugly, he is Fugly.

I think when people make rude comments it all boils down to jealousy. But sometimes, people have different priorities. I have some family members who are constantly buying expensive jewelry, practically weekly! Another one just paid $30,000 cash for a new car.

Here's a story for you- one time at work I was going out to lunch with two co-workers. One is older and has a pretty good amount of money in the bank and a gorgeous house and is constantly taking expensive vacations- skiing in Aspen, hiking in Colorado, etc and the other one is my age, and is a hand-bag lover. So the younger one started telling this story about her SIL who just got a bag (can't remember which one) that was over $1000. Right away, they were tearing into her, talking about the nerve she had to carry it, basically to own a bag that cost that much! They were going on and on saying how they could never spend that much money and talking about the deals for bags under $100.
In the meantime, I was sitting in the back seat of the car with my LV mono Speedy. (And I usually rotate my bags, too so I know they've seen plenty of them). Anyway, I didn't say anything, just listened to them rant and I was hoping they wouldn't ask how much I paid for it. And although the Speedy is one of the inexpensive LV's I knew they would be fuming!!!

I've gotten the bag insult about carrying Coach. I went into Neiman Marcus while carrying a plain black leather Coach and started looking around at the bags. Two sales associates were talking and one said, "If she carries that cheap Coach crap, then you know she won't buy anything in here." And she was right. I left the store. I got something similar from a sales associate at Barney's (only that one felt the need to point out that I was too fat for the clothes in the store while insulting my bag).
:cursing::rant::mad::censor::nono:

This made me really mad! I would of wrote a letter to the corporate
office. It's one thing to think that but it's quite another to say it out
loud where a customer could here it. I have yet to have such an
experience like this one or even some of the other ones. I guess I
have that, "DON'T F*CK WIT ME LOOK".:ninja:

cityfashionista - is this the bag you have? If so, I adore it. Congratulations. I understand why it is nto for everybody but, for me, it is seriously TDF!

Yes!!!!!
my manager recently told me that my LV speedy was the ugliest bag she had ever seen and that she would rather buy a bag from Walmart because they are of better quality and look a billion times better.

I was so sad. It was the first time I took it to work. But I still love that bag.
