B. Makowsky bags are not a wise choice

^ How did they squeak exactly? Hardware on hardware squeaking or was it leather on hardware that caused it? I would be disconcerted if it was the former, but the latter is expected. I have one Phuket satchel, and it squeaks in the double links of the handles because of the friction of the leather part of the handles rubbing against the chain when they're moved.

I don't know if the B. Makowsky bags on QVC are any different from the department store bags (they should not be), but I have purchased two bags from Marshall's. I have never had a problem with either bag, and I bought them because the leather feels divine and because I could not find a similar style anywhere else (I have the black and white Astor Satchel with two-toned hardware). Because I purchased them for well under half of the original retail, I feel I've received my money's worth.

And while a person definitely finds more B. Makowsky bags at a place like Marshall's, I've also seen Coach and even Marc by Marc Jacobs bags there. Many brand names can end up at a discounter if the style is old enough. Again, I am not saying that B. Makowsky bags are premier quality or that they are worth department store prices - they aren't to me. But mine have held up well and still look nice after multiple uses.

I have always admired b. makowsky bags from afar but I would never purchase one because of the fact of them not lasting a while and the lack-of CS.. ):

Sorry this has happened!

I don't know if the B. Makowsky bags on QVC are any different from the department store bags (they should not be)

Funny you should mention this, because I have been wondering about the quality of bags that are exclusive to QVC. Even though I haven't seen the bags in person, I noticed that the Dooney bags that are made exclusively for QVC don't look as though they are made with the same quality as the regular Dooneys. This seems particularly true of the ones that come with a bunch of extras (cosmetic bag, key fob, etc). Maybe it's just because they are made of fabric, but they just look cheap compared to other Dooney bags.

Oh, I didn't even know there were lines exclusive to QVC. In that case, perhaps it is the difference between boutique and MFF bags of other brands? I don't know, and I certainly don't want to assume that QVC bags are of lower quality when so many people have purchased them and had good luck.

Like I said, I have owned one Makowsky bag for quite a while and I recently purchased another - despite this thread! So my experience with them has been positive, but that doesn't negate anyone else's negative experience. But it is just like any other brand, IMO. I've heard terrible tales of bad service and product with MANY brands, and that doesn't stop most people from purchasing them. No one's positive or negative experience is universal.

Bought several of these bags. Kept the lightweight ones and gave the heavier ones to my daughter. She is thrilled and has no problem carrying the load. Oh, to have the shoulders she has!

That sinks about your bag, but I have to say I love my BMakowsky bags. I own three and I have had so many compliments on them. In fact, I have two friends that are now hooked on this line as well. I see that someone posted that they look cheap but I have to disagree. The leather is so soft and the designs are different then what you see in every other bag.

Is there ANYONE AT ALL who will actually be willing to PROVIDE the contact information? You know they intentionally don't make it available....

Missxglamour, I don't think you will have much luck with it, sorry to say. I got another letter from B Makowsky today indicating they may be willing to help me, but it's a bit late for that after the way they blew me off. I sent them one last letter to close the matter:

"Dear B Makowsky, Unfortunately, your offer to help me comes too little too late. After receiving your company's laughable email in which you basically blew me off by suggesting that I return the defective handbag to a discount store that has a 30 day return policy, and for which I would also need the receipt, I threw the bag in the garbage, and that garbage was picked up this morning.

We are talking about a handbag that lasted not quite 3 months before the leather handles became badly discolored and started peeling and fraying. I paid $162 for that bag! A price like that suggests quality workmanship, however, my experience with the B Makowsky brand is that it is no better than the $30 bags at Walmart. I own many beautiful handbags from Dooney & Bourke, Coach, Prada and Michael Kors. These are companies that pride themselves on providing quality products and excellent customer service. As a matter of fact, my Doonies have a lifetime warranty, and I paid about the same for them as I paid for your inferior product.

Since the B Makowsky bag I purchased now has a new home at the bottom of a landfill, I consider this matter closed. It was a very expensive lesson learned for me, a lesson that I am sharing with others who buy designer handbags. As I told you yesterday, I have described the situation to the thousands of people who read The Purse Forum, where many people have now stated that they will no longer consider purchasing a B Makowsky because of the extreme lack of quality of your products and the lack of satisfactory customer service. B Makowsky may believe that the retailers are the only ones who need to be satisfied, but that thinking will soon find your company without retailers once the actual customers are gone.

The irony of this whole thing is that when I first contacted you, I would have been willing to pay to have my bag fixed. Now that I have seen how little regard your company has for its customers, I would sooner take a flying leap off the Sears Tower than donate one more dime to your bottom line! Sincerely..."

I have one, it seems fine, got it cheap at TJ's, and I get tons of compliments on it. It looks great for the price. Of course that's only one. You sure never know. I just had to return a $500.00 coach leather peyton for broken hardwear issues.

I had a similar problem as many of you with the strap of my bag starting to fray and wear. Since Macy's would not do anything about it (I was a shocking four days past my return window) I tried to contact B Makowsky. I sent the following email to [email protected]:

To Whom it May Concern;

On January 16, 2010 I purchased a B Makowsky bag from Macy's in Medford, OR, my fourth as I have been extremely happy with the look, design, and feel of the B Makowsky bags. A couple of months ago, the leather on the strap started cracking, and has now become very uncomfortable to wear and unsightly. I really love this bag as I have all your other products, and wanted to know what can be done about this.

I am sure the multiple threads I have read about B Makowksy's customer service on The Purse Forum which indicate your customer service is lacking are incorrect. I have recommended your brand to several friends, who all agree with me it is an amazing product. I have been thrilled with your purses, and understand that an occasional defective aspect can happen and should not diminish the overall quality of a bag that retails for $298.

Please let me know what you can do to help the situation.

Thank you very much!

Two days later I received an email back from B Makowsky, asking me to provide them with my address. This morning (about five days later) I received a beautiful new handbag, with their apologies. It appears they have significantly stepped up their game, and I am happy to say I will most likely get many more bags from them.

When I first saw a b. Makowsky bag I fell in love with the price, the detail, the leather and the lining. I carried mine for a while and then one of the handles broke. As others have stated, B. Makowsky does not have a dedicated customer service department and following the advice of others on this forum, I was able to locate an email for VZI (Van Zeeland Inc. the parent company of B. Makowsky). I emailed them with my problem, concearn about their lack of customer support and pictures of my bag and the damage. With in 48 hours, I received a personal response from a representative who apologized for the problems and asked for my mailing address. About a week later I received a large box in the mail and inside was a BRAND NEW, JUST RELEASED B. Makowsky bag!!!!! No it wasn't the same exact bag, but it is incredible!!!!

It is amazing what a little tactfully written note will get you!

NO- B. Makowsky doesn't have a dedicated customer service center
NO- B. Makowsky doesn't have a repair center or replacement parts
YES-B. Makowsky will take the time to respond to and help its curtious and loyal customers!
