Hi,
I bought a celine bag from David jones for 3.5k. It is, well should be 100% authentic since it was bought from a reliable shop. However, I decided to sell the bag because I found it way to big for me since I'm short. The person contacted me that she went to authentication4u to get it authenticated and they said it was a fake? I gave them the recipt and everything that clearly showed that I bought the bag from David jones. I don't understand why they said it was a fake?

Can someone clarify what I should do and if authentication4u made a mistake? Because I don't want to have bought such an expensive fake it's ridiculous

Thank you

First, I'd contact authenticate4u directly to make sure they actually did authenticate your bag. Maybe you can send them pics or a link to the auction if that's what it was to compare to make sure they sent pics of your bag.

It is possible that you bought a fake from a department store. People return fakes and the SAs put them back on the shelves. It wouldn't be the first time it has happened.

Would definitely contact authenticate4u.. It is possible it was an error
& it is also possible you received a fake bag & you want to determine if
they did indeed authentic the bag.

You may want to ask the particulars of why it was not deemed authentic.
There might be an additional charge for this service, but if that is the
case you should be able to contact David Jones if it is not deemed authentic
& be able to send it back. Was it a recent purchase?

It was over 3 months ago I believe so I don't think I could return it. I'm not sure and the person I sold the bag to also has the receipt. When I called they said they got shipment in that day so i don't know if that helps? I'll just see what happens, if it's a fake then I'll contact david jones.
Thanks for the replies :)

There's another possibility. I don't know the pictures in the listing nor the pictures submitted to A4U but there have been cases where pictures submitted weren't at the right angles, weren't clear enough to see proper details, didn't show certain hallmarks necessary for authentication or other possibilities so it's possible that if the bag was authenticated by them, it's possible that a mistake could have been made.

I wouldn't wait to see what happens. I'd email A4u, give them the background, a link to your listing and request that they compare to see whether pictures were submitted of the same bag.

There have been cases where buyers received an authentic item but submitted pictures of a fake in an attempt to keep a genuine bag plus get a refund.

Or as was pointed out, it's possible that a dishonest buyer did a switch from the store and returned a fake.

It doesn't matter when they sold it to you. If it turns out they sold you a counterfeit you march down their and give them hell until you get your money back. :)

Can anyone tell me if the third party authentication service such as Authenticate4U.com that a lot of the authenticators suggest is the real deal?!?
(A bit surprised that the purse i found at the attic of my grandmother turned out to be authentic.. -> Authenticate4U just emailed me it's authentic... So i'm looking for a second opinion... Or people that have worked with Authenticate4U and afterwards took there bag to a store and have had positive:tup: or negative experiences..)

Thank you very very much!!! :flowers:

I've used them and found them to be reasonably priced, prompt in their service, professional and polite and most importantly, because they have brand specialists, they are more likely to be accurate in their asssessments than services who try to have a single or few jack-of-all-trades authenticators.

As for taking the item to a store afterwards to confirm accuracy, that's ill-advised.

Store SAs aren't trained nor authorized to authenticate and often don't know enough about the various styles and details to do so accurately.

Agreed - also, it's not in their best interest to do so, and is actually forbidden by some brands (Prada for example).

I've had excellent experiences with authenticate4u.

Agree with the others that taking items to the store is not helpful--especially if the item is vintage.

I recently called a Fendi boutique to ask about a version of the 2jours with suede lining and the SA wasn't even aware they made them with suede lining even though they were just from last Fall. Not 5 or 10 years ago--FALL 2013! I certainly wouldn't trust them to authenticate anything even if they were willing (which they're usually not).

Hi!

I don't want the store to authenticate my bag.. I used it a lot because i tought it was a fake one.. so it got a few scratches.. I want them to clean it up... But if i bring in a fake i asume i'm never goiing to see the bag again.. And that would brake my heart because it is the only thing i have left from my grandmother...

Thxxx for all the advise guys! :ty:

Hi,
I have ordered 4 items and never heard back from them, all I got was the auto reply. I needed the items to be authenticate asap so I can return it back in time, as the deadline is getting closer. It's been couple of weeks now.... extreme disappointed... I do understand the system problem... but yet I am extremely disappointed.

Have you followed up and re-contacted them? Have you checked your spam folder to see if responses might have gone there?
