Thanks for the link Joodlz. I can't believe how many styles there are! My small back pack 4938 -which is actually quite big - is the same colour as your lovely find. I don't think all the colours are listed as I have a dusty pink 4935 - my favourite weekend bag - but there's no pink on the list unless it's called something else that I don't associate with the colour.

You're welcome...dusty pink sounds wonderful!

Thank you for the link! I wish she had identified which colors came in nubuc and which ones were natural grain. I also have a periwinkle natural grain. I love purple too!

You're welcome...YAY purple...my high school colors were purple & white...go figure...early imprinting I guess!

Bought at Goodwill yesterday.
Approx. 4.125”w x 6.625”h x .25”d closed...8.25”w x 6.625”h open
I couldn't find a "Made in..." tag or imprint, just the Coach lozenge and Outlet bullseyes.
Has dents along the inside spine that make me think it held a spiral notebook.
Any info is always appreciated...thanks in advance!

Both are authentic but I don't know the style numbers. (In fact, I have that woven leather French purse and wasn't able to find a style number for it. Maybe someone else might know and I can benefit too.)

Hello, I'm new- so hopefully this is done correctly!

I've just closed an auction on this bag and am wondering if it's authentic? The seller claims it is from the 80s and that is the "Court" bag (which it seems to be- judging by the shape and the bags that Coach offers on their site now)

I've attached the seller's photos here:
https://img0.etsystatic.com/022/0/6370522/il_570xN.562188826_il2m.jpg

https://img0.etsystatic.com/030/0/6370522/il_570xN.562196346_ml2x.jpg

Any help is greatly appreciated…I did call the Coach CS line and the lady was helpful but isn't able to confirm over the phone if it's real (and I live nowhere near a Coach retail store)

Thanks, BeenBurned! I hope someone else will chime in. Goodwill really under-priced these at $1.99 each...YAY!

Coach phone and store personnel are the very worst people to ask for authenticity opinions. In fact Coach policy forbids employees to authenticate and it says so right on Coach's website on the "Counterfeit Education" page. The phone reps don't even work for, or have any training from, Coach, other than looking up orders and numbers on their computers, they work for a third-party call center.

Store employees have NO training on authenticity and many of them - most, in fact, probably weren't even born when the Court Bag first came out. Please don't EVER ask for or depend on information from Coach.

That sounds harsh but it's borne out by facts. Of all the posts we've answered by people who HAVE called or asked a Coach SA (which means Sales Associate, and that's what they are, not experts in company history) at least 80 percent of the information given by Coach employees or phone reps has been wrong. And how can anyone tell if a Coach is real over the phone when they can't even see it?

And if they tried to look up the last 4 digits in your bag they wouldn't find any confirmation anyway. Read why here:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000034886433/g.html
and here:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Creeds-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000030821024/g.html

and why you should never depend on information from so-called "Authenticity Guides" or Coach reps here:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Authenticity-Guides-Facts-and-Myths-/10000000062607882/g.html

As for the bag, it's a genuine Court Bag, style number 9870 (the last 4 numbers in your particular bag are not the style numnber), made some time between 1988 and maybe 1991.

This one might be a Breast Pocket Diary, style 8761 from the mid-90s, but the catalog doesn't show the inside details. But it's the only one I can find with the loop penholder rather than a tab and snap.

Thank you so much! I have read through a number of different sites that claim a certain way to ensure authentication, but they all said something different- so I thought this might be a good place to try!

Also, thank you for the tips re. Coach SAs- I will be more careful about asking questions in the future!

Ebay wants to have its cake and eat it too.

When it comes to control, ebay wants to have a say in how sellers conduct business, whether they have return policies, how much they charge for shipping and handling, etc. Yet when it comes to feedback and feedback removals, ebay pulls the "we're just a venue; buyers express their opinions and feedback is their opinion." So there are only rare instances where they'll remove feedback. And listing accuracy usually isn't one of the reasons why they'll remove it.

If someone promised to remove a neg but hasn't done it yet, I'd take that promise with a grain of salt. I've found that they'll tell you whatever you want to hear as long as it gets you off the phone in the shortest amount of time. If they do remove it, I'll be very surprised. I think they'll say that if the buyer won't revise, then tough sh** for you.

Here's the policy. As you see, there's nothing that says they'll remove for a neg left for an accurate description:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/feedback-removal.html

What are the guidelines?

The following types of Feedback may be removed:
pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/help/infohubs/images/imgNaviArrowRgt_12x12.gifFeedback comments containing inappropriate content.
pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/help/infohubs/images/imgNaviArrowRgt_12x12.gifFeedback that is unrelated to a seller's performance.
pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/help/infohubs/images/imgNaviArrowRgt_12x12.gifFeedback left by members who violated certain rules or policies.
pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/help/infohubs/images/imgNaviArrowRgt_12x12.gifA buyer made an error while leaving Feedback or during the transaction.
pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/help/infohubs/images/imgNaviArrowRgt_12x12.gifWe determine it's necessary and appropriate to remove Feedback and detailed seller ratings.
pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/help/infohubs/images/imgNaviArrowRgt_12x12.gifFeedback and detailed seller ratings are removed or adjusted through an automated system.
Reporting Feedback that qualifies for removal
You can report Feedback that you think may qualify for removal.
I guess I just lucked out. The rep I spoke to was extremely helpful and
actually gave me some good tips and suggestions. We discussed a lot of ebay policies
and what changes might be in the works, though as he said they take a looooooong time
to actually implement.
And happy to report that one of the negs WAS removed immediately!

Sorry, I looked through everything I have and still can't find it.

It looks like it should be from the early or middle 90s though, the trim is like the Sheridans and there's an interior detail that means it probably isn't any newer than the late 90s. I just don't have it in any of my catalogs.

ETA - I just compared it to one of my Sheridan Wallets - Sheridan French Purse, style 4302 - and all the details are exactly the same except mine isn't stamped Made In Italy, and the widths of the leather trim around the edge is just a bit wider on the woven one. Even the corners are finished off the same, and it has the same lining. So it's possibly a variation of a Sheridan, which would put it from around 1992 to 1995. We can probably think of it a Sheridan Woven Leather French Purse until the actual name turns up.
