Thank you!! It was so strange. They were digging their heels in on their own authentication, but the gave me a credit plus extra. Also, I would think if coach store authentications were reliable more people on here would be doing it.
If they thought you could get bags authenticated at a Coach store, then they are clueless. I don't know of any brand that will authenticate in their stores. It doesn't make business sense. If they authenticated, it would make you feel more comfortable buying from a secondary market rather than from them directly.

The sales lady was talking about aaaallll the people that purchased bags there, had them authenticated on line and told they had a fake....unhappy with the result went to the coach store and found out their bag was actually authentic. My exact words to her were "that's NOT true. Coach DOES NOT provide an authentication service" hers response to that was "well coach has the database". Then she started talking about the ykk zipper. Then for the 2nd time I mentioned all of the points learned here that proved it a fake. In the end I got what I wanted, which is good. The downside is, she said she was going to put her authentication with it and put it back on the floor.

Ok pros. I found a neat little bag today. Nothing adventurous like the yellow (not a) Janice. It appears to be a dinky bag (9375), from the late '80s/early '90s?

As always, thank you for you expertise and time.

I'm especially curious about this handbag since other sellers on Ebay refer to it as "Bonnie Cashin 1970s Kisslock Tote" and are asking for quite a bit more.

The Ebay sellers photos (seen on the URL) make the inside of the bag look like a much lighter blue.

Thank you for any insight or guidance you can provide.
:smile1:

The bag appears to be an authentic watermelon tote from the late 70s or early 80s. It was made in New York City. What worries me a little is that the interior doesn't look like it is navy but that might be from the flash. If it isn't navy all the way through, then that means the bag has been dyed or painted. In fact, you can see blue marks in the zipper picture that look like paint. The leather is also awfully wrinkled. Normally these bags have stiff, smooth leather.

Seller confirmed that it has been dyed and that they didn't mention it in the listing. Hope they let the winning bidder know and give them the option of cancelling.

Hello all. I have been browsing the forums and wanted to post the bag I just got. Any help at authenticating it would be great. I am a total newbie! Thanks!

*The hangtag does have the pointed A, it didn't show up that well in the pic. Also there is the YKK on the zippers.

Thanks Two.time.bags, BeenBurned, and Whateve for your feedback and input.

I, too, asked the seller if it was dyed or painted and was sent this response, "no dye or paint,it's the original color.thanks!" I even bid on it - but my instincts told me to let it go. Now I am very glad I did. I found a better bag (which I can't justify at the moment) that I'll post at Coach bargains. (It's a bargain because it is in beautiful condition.)

Thanks, again, for input and feedback.

How underhanded!

You're welcome! I'm glad you got a good one this time!

It sort of took the sting out of dealing with that woman over the Janice. I like that store and I'm sort of bummed that she didn't want to listen. Considering there was evidence that a fake was sold as real it seems it would be wise to have the details.....aka sharpening ones skills.

Thanks, Hyacinth, I was not going to report it unless it was confirmed fake. By the way, how does it work with sold counterfeit purses - does eBay take action against seller if the bag gets reported? How about the buyer - do they contact her/him?

It depends. It used to be that the buyer got a message maybe a week after the removal telling them not to go through with the transaction because of VeRO issues (which a lot of inexperienced buyers didn't have a clue about or that it meant the item was fake) but they never just come out and tell the buyer to contact the seller for a refund. I don't know if that's changed recently, maybe someone else does.

BTW, I just added another paragraph with more information to my previous post.
If a listing is reported after it ends and if ebay pulls the listing, both buyer and seller get messages. Usually the message comes around the same as the listing is pulled.

The message the buyer receives says something to the effect of the listing being removed because it violated ebay policy(policies) and that the buyer isn't obligated to complete the transaction.

For buyers that have already paid, unless they suspect that the removal was a result of the item being counterfeit, they have no reason to question authenticity as the reason for the takedown. And in fact, there have been instances where buyers did contact sellers asking them about the listing being removed. Sellers have been known to lie and say that it has something to do with not paying their ebay invoice or some other infraction. It's a rare seller who admits that a listing was removed as counterfeit.

ETA: Sorry. I posted before I finished reading. I didn't mean to parrot Whateve.

Thank you Hyacinth and especially BeenBurned. Taking your time to even do a side-by-side comparisons pictures for a stranger that you have never ever met.

That is amazing, you made my day! I'm feeling blessed and thankful.

I'm hopeful as well for the court case. Will update you all after that.

Thank you again. ^^
You're welcome.

I wonder whether a credit card dispute (if that's how you paid) might get you a refund more quickly. Even so, though, that won't put the scammers out of business.

AFAIK, Ebay no longer requires the seller to pay for your shipping costs to return the fake to them. Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

And of course, Ebay is going to fudge when they say there was a violation but don't say what kind - the fewer fakes being returned for refunds, the more money Ebay gets to keep.

WHATEVE said
"ETA: So it looks like they are saying it might be a fake, but if you already paid, it almost seems like they are encouraging you to keep it, rather than trying to stop the seller from shipping it"
Maybe they're hoping you'll RE-sell it on Ebay and they'll make even more money from the outrageous Ebay and Paypal fees! :graucho:
I don't believe that ebay has ever required sellers to pay return shipping, even in cases of SNAD. However, good sellers who make a mistake often reimburse the buyer for return shipping too. Good sellers don't think a buyer should be out money when the mistake was the seller's own.
Would someone please authenticate this supposed Coach bag? I posted it in the ID forum but it really needs authentication. As someone pointed out, the striped lining is not the same as we usually see in Cashin bags and the seller states it is leather and vinyl.

Does this bag even say "Coach" or "Bonnie Cashin" anywhere? I wonder whether it's a designer inspired item and whether the seller either thinks it's Coach or BC or if he's KWS (keyword spamming) the Coach and Bonnie Cashin name.

The bag is authentic but a pointed A and YKK zipper have nothing to do with authenticity.

I sent the seller a question asking that yesterday and have not heard back. I've seen more than one seller claim something was Coach or Bonnie Cashin without any proof at all.
