Item:COACH HANDBAG- SHOULDER BAG / SATCHEL - VINTAGE- TAN SMOOTH LEATHER #0784-345
item#:271506996027
Seller:lunchladynancy

Comments: I'm troubled by the unpainted/unfinished wooden dowels and the stitching around the zipper. See photo #8. The fabric near the zipper, extending from the dowels is folded poorly and stitched poorly, and the stitching around the zipper tab is inconsistent. I also cannot, for the life of me, identify this bag. :confused1:

My comments: Serial# font appears to be too fat. Plant code 'E" in a made in United States 1995 bag ?? Creed is stamped too close to upper edge of pocket. No small slip pocket under flap, only the large slip pocket. The turnlock is usually installed in the smaller pocket. Questionable stitching.

I haven't seen it before either but that doesn't mean it's fake. The design details point to 1992-93, and it may have been a pilot or sample bag or one that was pulled from production early. The dowels would have been a problem because they're not actually attached to the bag and have room to move around, which would have made it easy for any leather end covers to have been knocked loose. Maybe that was the reason we've never seen any others like it.

I'm pretty sure it's genuine though.

ETA - There was another one someone asked about, and referred to it as a Hanover. There weren't any other details but the measurements and photos match. So I'm sure it's genuine now but it didn't stay in production very long.

Thank you. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find a similar bag and have failed. I do enjoy a good mystery, though, and I quite like the bag. :smile1:

Thank you, for this, as well. Why oh why must they (counterfeiters) spoil my favorite shoulder bag. :yucky:

Have a lovely Sunday.

Yippee! Now we have a name! How in the world did you find it? What search words did you use?

ETA: Interesting the bag in my listing has registration #0784-345, and the Hanover in the photos you attached is #0782-320. Pretty close, eh?

NM, you're too fast for me!

You always have to keep checking my posts for additions, I'll keep hitting that Edit button until I run out of either time or information. :D

And I found the photos under "unknown" in my photo files so I searched the main Coach forum here, and there it was.

And the "Hanover" name seems valid since Coach made a Legacy version of it. We just don't know the style number although I'm sure there's one at the Archives that was the model for the Legacy version,.

Without a name I was scrambling with different search words. " vintage Coach wooden dowel top zip" only goes so far!

Dimensions:

Thank you!

This isn't the first time ltc_988 has had fakes posted on TPF.
