BB - I am not sure where you got that "quote" from, but it seems to be an excerpt I read when I checked out ebay's
MANAGED RETURNS PROGRAM.
It is NOT part of the regular return process, which is basically unregulated by ebay.
Sellers that are not opted into the program still have control over their return policies (to a degree). The only time ebay "interferes" is when there is a dispute. If the buyer wins the dispute or the seller agrees to accept a return once a case is opened, the buyer is responsible for sending the item back at their own expense, and the seller must refund in full including the original shipping (not the return shipping).

Here is a link to ebay's policy regarding returns to sellers that are NOT opted into the managed returns program. http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/item-not-received.html#doesntmatch

Personally, if they would just tweak it a little I would opt in myself because the shipping costs to send something back are MUCH lower than you would pay with the post office or any service - ebay gets a special rate from USPS
But because most people will just check off SNAD so that they don't have to pay for the return, I won't opt in.

This is where I found the policy:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/return-item.html#shipping-charges

And the pertinent part. I've highlighted the newly noticed (by me) part in red:

Return shipping charges

Either you or the seller is responsible for return shipping charges, depending on the seller's return policy and the reason for the return. In most cases, sellers require that buyers pay for return shipping, but some sellers offer free return shipping—check the Return policy section of the listing. If you're returning an item because it isn't as described in the listing, the seller is responsible for return shipping charges.

When you're responsible for return shipping charges, we charge your PayPal account if you ship the item using our shipping label. The first time you use eBay hassle-free returns and you're responsible for return shipping charges, we ask you to accept a billing agreement to authorize payment for these kinds of charges.

When you want to return an item using alternative shipping arrangements and the seller is responsible for the return shipping charges, contact the seller to agree on the service and cost before returning the item.

This comes to prove how many rules, confusing and disorganized are in Ebay.

Buyers have nothing to do with the way a seller decides to operate in Ebay, so if they opt in this return policy a seller will be reimburse in a SNAD case, if the seller is not part of this, then buyer pays? Makes no sense and is unfair to buyers, that's the way I see it.

To add to my case, the seller sent an email directly to my email, saying that he took the bag to the Coach store in White Plains NY, and he was told the bag was totally 100% authentic.

I sent him the link and the quote to the Coach website that says, stores do not authenticate purses.

Gosh! So sick and tired of this!
I understand your frustration. But it's hard to find perfection. Ebay has many flaws...and as a buyer and a seller I can tell you that I find many more flaws on the sellers end. The buyer has a lot of protection, and taking into account the fabulous deals and finds you get on ebay and almost nowhere else, it is not much if you only have to worry about return shipping costs. Besides that, if you do your homework and investigate the item BEFORE you buy it, you have very little chance of actually buying a fake. Buyers should have some responsibility to know their product or trust the TPF to help them with that BEFORE bidding. If you don't want to be bothered with that, then there are so many other sites like Zxxxxx or directly through Coach. Pay full price in the store, wait for sales, etc. Getting a bargains is going to require some time and effort if you want to do it right.

:mad:Now here is another battle in the HOW TO DETECT A FAKE arena!
At the bottom of a page when I purchased a Coach bag on ebay I was directed to this "ebay guide".

How about everyone goes on and votes HANDS DOWN??
HELP to get rid of this guide before it does more damage.:rtr::rtr::rtr::rtr::rtr::rtr::

Hi - I found that too, but somebody at ebay messed up because that is actually part of the description language from the managed returns program, yet you find that information when you do a general "HELP" search about returns on ebay.
EBAY is fighting tooth and nail to get everyone to opt into their managed returns, almost as hard as they were fighting to get sellers to have FREE SHIPPING.
Sellers are punished indirectly and directly by not going along with ebay on these two policies and it will only get worse over time.
(For example, you get better placement in search results for offering Free Shipping than you would for being a 5-star seller with 100% feedback for over ten years).

HELP to get rid of this guide before it does more damage.:rtr:::
I can't believe the BS in this so-called 'Guide'.

"Some Coach bags are made in China" ; "Many fixtures ....including Coach hardware, should contain the Coach logo"; "The zipper itself is usually branded with the letters YKK"; "Your best bet of getting the real thing is at a Coach retail store" umm this is an EBAY GUIDE!! :pokey:

How do we give it a thumbs down? I can only see a thumbs up. Can it be reported for being inaccurate (understatement)?

I just realized you can't VOTE NAY on it, only give it a hands up!
But you can comment on it, so that would be a good thing to do - the worst thing is that
ebay actually LEADS you to this page by providing the link to it when I purchased a Coach bag!

Maybe I will write to the author and give her a piece of my mind?

Yeah do it, and refer her to REAL guides, written by someone who has based them on years of research and experience.

ETA: I contacted her myself. Will be interested in the response.

Could someone please authenticate this Coach Leatherware bag?
Rescued from GW yesterday.
Approx. 15”w (at top) x 13.5”h x 9”d straps drop 13.5” to buckles.
Maybe a mid-80's-early 90's Helen's Legacy Duffle #9085?
Any and all info is always appreciated...thanks in advance!
