Thank you for authenticating. Here's another question. Is it fake if the number after the dash are random three digit numbers, not the style number? For example, 0800-344 and 0827-327. These are numbers for court bags.

Absolutely NOT. Coach didn't start adding the style number to the serial number until 1994. ALL Coach bags made before then had completely random strings of numbers as the registration or serial number, and from when serial numbers first started in the 1970s until right right around 1990 when Coach gradually changed the format over the space of about 18 months, all serial numbers had a 3+4 format. The 4+3 format was used until 1994. Serial numbers that are all-number and don't have any letter of the alphabet are from before 1994 and the last 3 or four digits should NEVER be used to authenticate or identify them because they can't.

With pre-1994 all-number style numbers, the only thing about a serial number that would be a red flag is if it's on the Fakes list or if it's been found in more than one bag.

Thanks, BB, your photo enhancing software works much better than mine.

So apparently all the No D1276 prefixes had the old standard format with the "o" underlined, but for some unknown reason in all the 19924 styles made after July, Coach re-formatted the creed statement, dropped the "China" from the creed statement, and dropped the underline and replaced it with a period after the "o". A search also turned up bags with the No. and with H, K and L month codes. It looks like that plant closed, there don't seem to be any bags from the 76 plant with 2014 year codes.

WHY Coach did it is another question. I can understand dropping the name China from the creed and re-formatting it but the change from underline to period is really odd. I wonder if any other recent bags had that kind of change to the "No"?
I believe the change was made in June. The listing I found shows an "F" month code with period instead of a dash. (I didn't find a single bag of that style made in May. I wonder if they made it in April, took a month off then restarted in June with the new format.)

This is the JUNE listing I found from which I borrowed the creed picture:

Even the 94 plant got in on the action, check out the first two pics

And as if that weren't confusing enough, check this one from 2014 out - HEY COACH, WTF ???

and then the 94 plant from October 2013

So kiss "Coach always follows standard American English Grammar rules of spelling and punctuation" good-bye. Not to mention 40 years of tradition.

Wow, thank you for the great info! This is great stuff! Can you help authenticate this? Photos are in the description link. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=181375823597&alt=web

Do you have any tips or guidance around pricing for court bags?

We can't comment on pricing, sorry. As for advice - always check the strap length and photos. Many older bags have had the straps shortened, sometimes really badly. And Court Bags had 2 different straps depending on when they were made, a removeable non-adjustable 44-inch strap from their late 80's introduction to about 1997, and from 1997 to now a 48-inch non-removeable adjustable version.

This one is genuine and from the late 80s-early 90s.

You'll need to ask the seller for a picture of the creed. We can't authenticate without it.

yes I got one... here it is

If the seller of that bag is the same one who sold you the Patchwork bag in the second picture to the right, we definitely need to see a larger and better photo, since the Patchwork bag is definitely counterfeit. The Signature fabric bag between them with the bright red trim also needs a much larger creed photo since there's a possible problem with that one too.

Creed photos or any photos the size of postage stamps are often so small because they're stolen from other sources. We don't even recommend that anyone buy an item if those are the only kind of pictures avaialable, or when the creed and serial number aren't completely readable down to the punctuation.

They both look genuine but I don't know their names. The creed photo of the light lavender bag really needs to be larger, we need to be able to actually read it.

As for the hangtag - you DO know that the chain and tag can be removed, just like all Coach hangtags? The only person who can say why it's inside the bag is the person who put it there.
