The P plant bag I was asking about might be authentic too even though the wording is wrong. We can't be sure unless there are other things wrong with it.

It's a good idea to keep remembering that Coach did make mistakes. Creed mistakes aren't unusual and like Whateve said, it's a good idea to check if the bag has any other problems before reporting it. If the ONLY problem with a bag is a mistake in selecting the right creed and is the kind of mistake that could have been made by an inexperienced plant employee or one who may not not have spoken or understood much English, then it's best to just let it slide. Sometimes we get too focused on small details that we lose sight of what actually could have happened to cause a legitimate mistake.

And I want to emphasise that I can make mistakes too! Everything posted about serial numbers and creeds is based on observation, NOT on direct information from Coach or from any 100 percent reliable source. So we always need to be careful and not be too eager to report something as fake just because of a mistake in the creed, there could be information or details we haven't found yet.

Thanks, Hyacinth...you're up early today!

Well stated :)

Thank you!!

The bag looks okay however the seller has a misstatement in her listing.

She states that the bag has a "Unique Authentic Serial number." This is incorrect and since 1994, Coach bags have not had unique serial numbers.

And in fact, the seller evidently has 2 of the same bag because she has another listing for the same style with the same "unique" serial number!

Could someone please authenticate this Coach bag?
From Goodwill...with a bonus (fuzzy) Mento in the zip pocket :(
Approx. 13”w x 7”h x 3.5”d Strap drop 13”
1999 Mercer Zip #7406, yes ? Actually found it on the Wayback!
As always, thanks in advance!

Wow, you have the BEST Goodwill! It's amazing how many great Coach bags you find there. I think I need to move to your neighbourhood! :)

Hello!
I just picked up my first vintage coach and was hoping you all could authenticate it for me. It seems legit but my concerns are that the creed stamp is totally off center and the stamp says "Made in U.S.A." rather than "Made in The United States". The zipper has no markings, i.e. no YKK. The color seems a bit different too. Not a light brown but not a dark brown either, with just a tint of warmth to it. Another peculiar thing is that there are little sailor anchors stamped into the sides of the strap hooks. Maybe you can see this in the pic.

This is the basic 9455 bag
Creed number stamped: 230-2825

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!!

There is nothing wrong with that bag. Zipper markings make no difference; Coach used many brands over the years, and we never use that to authenticate. On the other hand, having anchors on the strap is a good thing. Not all straps have them because, again, Coach used several different companies, but during a certain period, they used the company whose logo was the anchor. The "Made in U.S.A." creed was used as well as the "Made in the United States." In 1989, there was a putty and a tabac color, as well as a British Tan.

ETA: the creeds were hand stamped so they weren't always exactly centered. This bag was probably made around 1989 - 1990.

I'm sorry these posts of mine are in the wrong place...should be in the rescue and rehab sub-forum. I don't know how this happened.

Not your fault ZSP, we wandered off topic. It's all relevant though, I think. I just posted an update of my soft satchel in the Rehab thread.

Whew...thanks Two.time.bags....I thought I'd lost my mind. Some days I feel like I actually do.

Oh great...I can hardly wait to see your soft satchel.

This is a nice basic bag...and in good condition. I had a black one, still have a red one and am always looking for another. Are you going to do any rehab on it? There's a great "rescue and rehab" thread with lots of wonderful info.
