Maybe it's a Lipizzaner stallion. Aren't they trained to walk that way?
Thanks for the link! Nothing quite seems to match our little Coach horse though - even if there's a gait that would match that leg position the horse would have to be moving pretty quickly to keep from falling over on its side and the Coach horse looks like it's almost standing still. It's a matter of gravity more than anything else, ask any 4-legged animal to lift both legs on one side that far off the ground at one time and they're going to fall sideways like something in a Looney Tunes cartoon.
Oh well, it wouldn't be the first time Coach got something wrong. Like all the four-leaf clover charms and keychains they sell around St Patrick's Day as "shamrocks".
