Hello there! I was wondering if someone could take a look at this purse for me. The creed photo is upside down and looks like it only has one letter and 6 numbers, the last 4 being 5130 (but I could be wrong about what the first character is) so I wanted to check with the experts.

Item: Coach WIllis
seller: lammy5150
listing: 251371620389

link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Willi...389?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3a86ea8825

The seller has the description and style number wrong, it's not a 9927 Willis, it's a 5130 Station Bag. I'm seeing a valid serial number G13-5130 and the bag looks genuine.

Hello,

Oh dear, I think I may have jumped the gun and purchased a fake Lulu before doing my homework :( This is from the questionable J6D prefix and my heart is heavy because I think it was too good to be true. Can someone please kindly authenticate? Thanks so much in advance. Also apologies if I list the request wrong as this is the first time I've posted...

Also attached is a jpeg of the creed number that the seller was kind enough to immediately send. If it turns out it's a fake, they plan to refund me. Thanks again!

Sorry, it's definitely fake.

I'm posting photos of two other bags with the same serial number prefix, which means that if both were genuine they would have been made in the same plant in the same month and year, and should usually have the same exact fonts in both the creed stamp and the serial number.

The first Tan bag is genuine, notice the squarish-round font in the serial number that was used by the D plant from 1994 to at least the end of that decade. And although it's never absolute proof that something's genuine, there's also an Outlet stamp at the upper right corner of the photo. (Each plant normally would have had only one serial number stamp and one creed stamp for each line of bags that needed a special description of the materials involved in its construction.)

The second photo shows black or gray bag with a serial number with exactly the same font as in the bag you bought. The bag in this photo is a total fake since the J6D- prefix should mean it was made in September 1996, but the style code 9134 is only for a Hippie Flap Bag and that style wasn't even made until Fall of 1999.

There are also problems with the strap of the Lulu's Legacy and with certain seam details, so there are at least three areas on the bag that aren't correct for a genuine style 9952, along with the J6D- prefix often being used in counterfeits.

Please refer your seller to this post so she can compare the photos for herself. Here's the link to this post, or send her a link to the entire page:

That's too bad, those Lulu's are beautiful and I did have a feeling that it was really too good to be true. Thank you for your expertise Hyacinth, I was waiting on your final word :)

Welcome to TPF! You've come to the right place and even posted the information we like to see in requests.

The bag is authentic. The S is the plant code for the factory in China where the bag was made. And the P at the end of the serial number indicates that it's a pilot bag. Pilot bags are made prior to introduction of the style. They'll do it to test how popular it is and whether it's worth the investment of producing the style.

Sometimes a pilot version will have slightly different details that might be changed in the final product.

We can't give advice on price because prices can vary depending on popularity, availability, color, the economy, etc. A bag is worth what a willing buyer wants to pay for it. Sometimes that's way less than it cost originally and other times, it might be several times over original retail. (Several years ago, there were some (IMO) ugly denim patchwork bags that originally cost around $350. they were selling on ebay for $800-1000.)

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I really didn't think anyone would answer me. LOL I will definitely be coming back to this site often.

Thanks again.

This is the pilot bag for the Coach Carly. It looks good. They test marketed it in some stores before selling them.

I apologize for duplicating someone else's response. I missed the other response.

She made an error in the listing. This is the camel. She Also has a parchment for sale and forgot to change the description.

Thank you too for your response. I am not sure why you are apologizing for duplicating, I need all the help I can get and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to pay attention to me.

Thanks again.

The best thing that anyone who really wanted to learn about real vs. fake Coaches could do is to read every post in this thread every day. But most members never come here until they think they might have a problem.

I recently sent an email on ebay to a "Salearea" requesting authentication help. After reading a few of her guides that were authored "by “Hyacinth” for Salearea." She referred me to this site. If you are the same person, I would like to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, oh and by the way THANK YOU!!!:D The ladies here are very nice. And I got two really fast replies. (As you can probaly tell I have never posted or engaged in forums, so I am little excited.:p)
It is a little confusing sorting through all the post and figuring out where to find the answers to your post, but I will figure it out and I will be back often.

Thanks again for this service.

Yes, I'm the same Hyacinth. NOT the same person as Salearea (I'm a buyer and collector but not a seller), but I appreciate their efforts to always be sure they sell genuine items and provide a very large album of excellent photos to show the condition and authenticity of what they're selling. So when I was asked based on my posts here to research and write a series of Coach guides for them, I was really glad to do it.

I'm glad the guides have been a help, and please feel free to ask any questions here about specific Coach items or just general questions. There are so many members here whose Coach knowledge covers almost all the company's products and history that someone should be able to help you with almost any kind of question.

Is this authentic? I believe I saw a post with another green duffle with an upside down prefix, this one looks like it has a different grommet color from the buckle.

The entire serial number font is wrong. A7D has shown up in fakes before and though Coach serial numbers from the 80s and 90s might often have serial spacing and dashes that were different from most other bags from the same time period, they really shouldn't have all the digits including the "No" all jammed together like that with NO spacing or dash(es) at all.

I mentioned a few posts up from this one about the serial number font that had been used at that D plant during the middle and later 1990s, and I've posted a genuine creed from 1997 below. Compare the differences.

I'm not sure about the grommet color since it might be brass.

Though we always remind people that hangtags shouldn't be used as proof because they can be changed so easily, the hangtag on this bag was obviously made to match it but the quality of the hangtag itself is REALLY bad and it was NOT made by Coach.

Hi,
Please help me to authenticate this bag
I was hesitating if it is authentic as the joining of "C" on each joining is not align.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you

I was going to start cleaning this up to list and realised that I hadn't had it authenticated. I bought it quite a while ago so am hoping its OK.
Soho belted pouchette (?) 4156. The creed is very lightly stamped so almost impossible to see in some places.

Sorry having problems uploading more than one pic so will have to re-post tomorrow with dropbox
