Comment: I quite like this and hope its authentic. Not sure about the hangtag that the seller confirms has been sewn onto the front? Any views much appreciated, thanks.

It seems ok to me although the metal part of the top zipper pull isn't original, but you may want to wait for more opinions. Maybe the hangtag was sewn there to cover a hole or stain?

This is my first time on a site like this and I honestly do not blog at all, so I hope this is in the right place and that I am doing this correctly. I am in interested in purchasing a bag from ebay when I looked at the creed I saw something that was different. There was a "P" at the end of the style number. Also there was a "S" at the end of the first set of numbers. This is much different than any of the creeds that I have seen and I was told that this was the place to go and find out if it is a fake or not. Also if it is not fake is this a good price for it.

Welcome to TPF! You've come to the right place and even posted the information we like to see in requests.

The bag is authentic. The S is the plant code for the factory in China where the bag was made. And the P at the end of the serial number indicates that it's a pilot bag. Pilot bags are made prior to introduction of the style. They'll do it to test how popular it is and whether it's worth the investment of producing the style.

Sometimes a pilot version will have slightly different details that might be changed in the final product.

We can't give advice on price because prices can vary depending on popularity, availability, color, the economy, etc. A bag is worth what a willing buyer wants to pay for it. Sometimes that's way less than it cost originally and other times, it might be several times over original retail. (Several years ago, there were some (IMO) ugly denim patchwork bags that originally cost around $350. they were selling on ebay for $800-1000.)

Have you ever seen the "No." upside down on a creed?? Thanks!

No, never. I'm not sure if that would even have been possible, but I've never seen clear photos of the stamping mechanism Coach was using back then. Another problem is that there's a lot of color missing in quite a few places on the bag, and the pictures aren't clear enough to see the details I need to see of the base. The serial stamping isn't sharp and clear like it should be either. The big problem is that although the only B 1996 plant creed and serial photo I have is from a different month, the fonts of both the creed stamp and serial number are different.

Below is a creed from the same plant and year but a month earlier, note the differences in the fonts.

I don't know if I'd feel comfortable reporting it but I definitely wouldn't buy it.

Fascinating information about "Pilot" bags... I had NO idea that Coach did this, or that you could spot Pilot bags from the serial number.

I've only been reading this thread for a few days now, and it's getting interestinger & interestinger!

The best thing that anyone who really wanted to learn about real vs. fake Coaches could do is to read every post in this thread every day. But most members never come here until they think they might have a problem.
