Hello Ladies. I bought 3 vintage bags for rehabbing & when I checked them out I noticed all THREE had brass attachments for the 'male' part of the turn lock like the one pictured. I have seen some of these that the little top cap was missing from, but it did not look like this.

All bags creed numbers predated 1994 and one was stamped Made In New York City. I have a BAD feeling about these!! Any input on this issue would be very much appreciated! Thank You!!

That's fine on pre-1994 bags.

Alhtough I agree that her description doesn't scream fake, I'd feel much more comfortable giving a thumbs up if creeds were shown. KWIM?

Definitely. I wasn't saying that the bags were definitely genuine, just that the backs of turnlocks on pre-1994 bags look like that. I started to edit my response to add that pictures of the bags and creeds were necessary for authentication - then I got distracted. :p

Could someone please authenticate this for me? The creed is 229-6437.

It's dark blue leather and measures about 8 1/2" high x 6" across and 2" deep.

If you need anything else, please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for explaining. I thought maybe you knew something i didn't. :graucho:

Thanks for posting. I've never seen the "Solid Brass USA" before. It seems like that wording was used on the later NYC bags, probably up until they stopped using solid brass. Since my NYC courier pouch with a creed doesn't have it, I would suspect that they stopped using solid brass around the time it was made, I'm guessing sometime in the early 80's. My pre-serial number courier pouch's stamping looks just like your stewardess. At any rate, I'm 99% sure any bag with a 90's creed that has the solid brass imprinting is fake.

P.S. I love your signature!

How did I miss this?
I have just realised that I have a (supposed) 1993 Maggie duffle that I've started to rehab that has 'solid brass' buckles.
I also realised that I didn't get it authenticated so now I'm worried as I bought it 41 days ago!
Please, what do you think?

It wouldn't be 1993 because in 1993, serial numbers were random. It looks like K8H to me, which would be 1998. If it's a 3, it would be 2003.

That K3H- serial number prefix is something we've talked about here a lot. Opinions range from Possibly to Almost certainly fake. I see other problems with that bag too - the stitching on the leather top zipper pull is really uneven, the pipiing around the base seems much wider and thicker than it should be, the pair of grommets at the end of the top zipper in Photo # 8 are silver and not brass and it looks like there are breaks or seams in the piping on either side of the top zipper, and Coach would NOT have been using solid brass buckles in 2003. I also don't remember that shade of pink being available in 2003, and that's awfully recent for a Maggie Duffle.

I doubt if that one's genuine, but wait for Whateve to take a look. You'll have only a few days to file a SNAD claim.

Thanks BeenBurned & Whateve for the info on the turnlock backing. Here is the 3 bags in question creed stamps. I was not overly concerned with anything but the turnlock..but it never hurts to get the opinion of experts..right?:)

The creeds all look ok, but remember, we'd have to see the bags too.

It's K3H so 2003. Is it OK then?

In my opinion, it is fake. There are just too many things wrong with it. The font of the serial number is too thick. Coach wouldn't have used "solid brass" stamping on buckles that weren't solid brass, and they weren't using solid brass in 2003. I've never seen that color pink except on fakes. A real Coach wouldn't have the breaks on the piping at the top, like Hyacinth said. The zipper pull is the wrong shape as well.

Thanks Whateve and Hyacinth. The font of the serial no has been bugging me for a while and when I got out my authentic 1998 brown one today to compare alarm bells were ringing.

I bought it before I discovered this wonderful Forum just as the ebay Discussion Board changed their rules and got stupid.

I have contacted the seller (Australian) and am hoping it won't have to go to dispute.

Thanks again.
