Coach doesn't have any "spotters", their attitude is that if you didn't buy it directly from Coach, you deserve to get cheated and stuck with a fake bag. The only spotters are the members who give up their own personal time searching for and reporting fakes.

Just to mention..eBay does have a group of people they recruit when they see repeated success in fakes being reported. They send a message inquiring whether this person has any other areas of expertise and if they would agree to be 'watchdogs'(my words:) they receive letters of appreciation and maybe a small gift from eBay from time to time. When these people report fakes eBay is more likely to take a hard look at the item in question and remove it.

Definitely a Bad Taft! The creed says it was made in the US but the serial number code is for a Chinese plant and it was making mostly fabric bags during all of 2002. The spacing and font in the serial number don't look right, and it's possible but not likely that the Taft was still being made in 2002. Also, the front pocket flap looks too long although it's hard to be sure since there are no straight-on photos of the front. But it definitely doesn't look right.

Belated - but many thanks Hyacinth!

I wondered if they had something like this!

You're welcome. I believe the original strap had a lobster clasp. It's easier to find a dogleash style. British tan is probably the second easiest color to find but it might not be an exact match. If you aren't too picky, there are a lot of brands that made straps in the same color. Or you can buy a new one. There are several people who will make you one to order.

I plan to clean the bag up, then try to find a strap. I'm not sure what color the handles and piping are. A close match would probably be fine. I have the Mautto website bookmarked. Are there others of comparable quality?

So far every "J8P-" prefix we've found in a "Made in the United States" seems to be either a proveable or a possible fake. In that time period the P code was being used for Costa Rica, below is what I believe to be a genuine creed and serial number with that prefix showing a Costa Rica creed. The silver strap grommets on a bag with brass hardware is also a problem, and so is the extra-thick font used in the serial number.

The Court Bag seems to be authentic.
I contacted the seller and, sensibly, they have removed the listing
