Wait for more opinions but it does not look genuine. The style number looks like 10337 but the genuine bags with that style number are different and don't have a flap. The one you bought looks like style number 10340, but the stitching on the front and around the creed patch inside the purse is very poor quality compared to a genuine Coach. And the metal hangtag is not the one that came with this style.

I've posted pictures of both genuine styles with those numbers, 10337 on the top and 2 different colors of style 10340 below it along with a photo of a genuine creed patch and the inside of the bag showing how the zipper for the inside pocket is supposed to be sewn - that inside pocket zipper is very badly done on your bag, and that poor quality could NOT have come from a Coach plant. There should also be 2 lines of stitching that go up the center of the flap from the turnlock to the top of the bag.

I believe your bag is counterfeit and another of our experts has said the same.

I think the creed may say #12857, which I think may have only been made for factory.

I'm definitely seeing a zero as the second digit. And did you look at the way the zipper is stitched into the inside pocket? And the 12857s still have the double stitching up the center of the flap and don't have Legacy Stripe lining.

A serial with an 06 year code and single-letter plant code is too early to be in a bag with a style number starting with 12***

I sharpened and enlarged the creed:

Yep, the stitching on the inside pocket was the first thing that convinced me it was fake.

Read, study and Bookmark the Salearea Coach Guides posted in the Guides section at Ebay, especially the ones on Creeds, Serial Numbers and Italian-made bags. In fact, it wouldn't hurt to read all of them - and go back once a month to re-read them and refresh your memory:

Thanks for the link. I will check this out. Meanwhile, maybe you can clarify for me why
so many Madison, Made in Italy bags shows up with no number on the creed patch? A seller of some renown told me once she seemed to recall a time during production this happened, but was not sure. Can You enlighten? Thanx

I don't know. You'd have to ask Coach. If anyone has an answer, I'd love to hear it.

Madisons usually had serial numbers.

Maybe a third of Sheridans didn't have serial numbers.

NO Dakotas had serial numbers.

This one has been overlooked. Your opinion will be appreciated.

It's a genuine Coach but whether it's a Bonnie Cashin design or was made while Bonnie Cashin was at Coach is a question for experts or for the Bonnie Cashin Foundation, and they no longer authenticate. You'll have to wait for someone experienced in Cashin styles. Or try asking at the ID this Coach thread.

Comment: I know I should have had this authenticated before bidding but I've missed a couple recently after posting here and didn't want to lose this one. Is it authentic and rare as the seller states, please? I think its a 1994 so nearly true vintage?

Title: Genuine VTG Coach Tan Leather Nickle Hardware Preppy Cross-Body HiP Bag EX COND*
Item number: 171122964706
Seller: vintagegem85
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-VTG...706?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item27d7b938e2

Comments: This seller has a long history of selling fakes. With 87% feedback, I'm surprised ebay hasn't suspended her.

My concern is with the creed on this bag. It's puffy and the font doesn't look right. Also, others have brass hardware. Did Coach use silver hardware in 1996?

Thanks.

BTW, note that this wallet from the vintagegem85 is fake:
