Hi all,

This is my first post. I would greatly appreciate if you can please help to authenticate my very first Coach purchase for item F40977 that I have bought it off Ebay.

When I received the wallet, I noticed some glue like substances around certain areas and also some "double-stiches". I understand that factory items are definitely not as perfect as the ones purchased from Coach stores but do they even use glue?

I have contacted the seller about my concern and his reply was that he was not aware of the glue like substances. The wallet is from the Coach Factory store and he looked over the units carefully and that he won't buy them from the store if he sees them with glue marks. The seller also stated that he usually buys several at a time and must have over looked. He suggested to use the Coach leather cleaner. The seller also mentioned that he does not have another one like that to switch out.

Thanks in advance and I really appreciates the time and effort. :smile1:
Welcome to TPF. Please refer to post #1 for the information and posting format we need to see in your future requests. http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914.html#post24637163

I don't see any problems with the wallet. Yes, Coach does use glue and yes, there can be slightly crooked and overlapped stitches.

Regarding your perception that outlet products are defective and boutique items are perfect, that's not correct. Coach isn't a premier brand (like LV, Chanel, Gucci, Hermes) and aren't made with the attention to detail that you pay premium prices for from other designers.

For the most part, the differences between similar styles from boutique vs. outlet are in the details. Boutique bags and accessories tend to have more details hardware and logos, more detailed trim and accents, and nicer linings. (Where you'll see a horse and carriage plaque on a boutique bag, a simpler - thus less expensive -Coach nameplate might be on a MFF version of the similar style. Where a boutique might have legacy stripe lining, the outlet version may have solid color lining.)

Again, I don't see any problems with the pictures of the wallet you've shown, though I'd like to see the listing and seller's other items.

Could someone please authenticate this Coach wallet?

Good Morning,
Hoping someone could please take a look at this bag. If it is authentic, do you know if this type of closure hard to fix/replace. TIA.

The bag is genuine, from 1991 and was called a Roll Bag, style number 9887. Coach called that lock a Springlock. You could try contacting Coach directly and asking if they still can replace that type of lock.

I searched the Rehab and Rescue thread but only was able to find one mention of the Springlock here:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-368.html#post22685538

You might try asking at that thread, they just started a new one:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-833400.html#post25247727

The old one is archived here:

You may want to think about looking for one with a working lock, or a different style with a standard turnlock.

I think you are right, I will keep my eyes open for one with working hardware. Thanks!

It's genuine. Hamptons Weekend Scribble Hobo is probably the official name.
