The Classic Leather Shoulder Purse style 17994 is a remake of style 9385, just called a Shoulder Purse. The original had a single strap and a small kisslock coin purse on the inside, the remake doesn't. Origanal and remakes are shown below. I DON'T think the original has an outside back pocket, the catalog doesn't list one.

ETA - It looks like Coach cut the price on the remakes, $198 down from $298

Ok, this is very informative and it sure does clear my confusion. For some reason, I thought the Penny is the remake of Classic Leather Shoulder Purse style 17994. The style that I have been looking for is the 9755 which has the measurement of 9.5, 6.5, 2-2.5.
it will be a nice cross body bag for my petite build. :)

Your link doesn't work, but I'm guessing that this is the one you mean?

The seller doesn't show the serial number, but the bag seems like a genuine Equestrian Compartment Bucket.

If the seller has had the bag's authenticity questioned before, she really should be more concerned with showing the serial number.
She's provide a pic of the creed including the serial number. Thanks.

You have to understand something - the "Customer Service" people who answer the phones when you call Coach are NOT Coach employees. They work for a professional CS company out of a call center, just like the people you get when you call about a computer problem, and we all know how that exercise in futility can go. They're hired to answer questions about if a certain style number is in stock, or if your order has shipped yet. They have NO training even in Coach basics and especially not in Coach authentication.

This was posted somewhere last December, sorry I didn't save the URL - directly from a Coach phone rep about authenticating by phone:

"We're not even technically Coach employees, we should NOT be doing it. We're "Coach product specialists" but our job is to help people shop for current items... We're not employed by Coach, we haven't had any "authentication training..."

Not only do they not know anything about Coach's styles and history but I doubt if more than a literal handful of Coach employees in NYC could answer the same questions effectively. Jed Winokur or an Archive employee maybe, but I wouldn't put my money on anyone else.
But we have you!:graucho:

Style 9755 is the Pocket Purse, and yes, it DOES have a back outside pocket. Except for the back pocket and the size it's very similar to the Convertible Clutch # 9635 that you bid on.

It was introduced around 1987 and temporarily discontinued in the early 1990s. All those early vintage versions will have a random serial number so you'll have to search for "Pocket Purse". Coach briefly re-issued the style in Spring 1997 so you might find both old and new styles if you search for the style number since the 1997 bags will have the style number as part of the serial number. The catalog listings for both Holiday 1987 and Spring 1997 are below.

BTW, always check the strap length. Not only were the vintage versions available with 2 different strap lengths, but some owners actually chopped down the straps when the fashion switched to carrying bags higher up instead of at hip length. It's happened to a lot of older Coaches.

Here's a hint on searching Ebay - when you're looking for a style and want to use more than one search term, use the "Advanced" search link. Scroll down a bit and check off the box that says "Search Title and description". Then select the Clothing Shoes & Acessories link from the dropdown menu. In the top main Search box enter - exactly like this:

coach ("pocket purse",9755)

or all the style names and numbers in parentheses separated by commas and no spaces. You'll have to wade through a bunch of other stuff but at least you'll find the listings where the seller has used the correct names.

1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-C...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 -- looks okay though she should show a full and legible picture of the creed

2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-COACH-F...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 - There aren't enough pictures of the sneakers to be sure, but I don't see any red flags. If you have concerns, you may come back with more pictures when you receive them.

3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Signa...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 -- looks good

5. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-COACH-S...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 -- looks good
