Please look at this when you can. I've owned a ton of court bags and love them...this one is just off to me. The leather feels different, the hardware is different, and the leather on the bottom interior doesn't match the rest. Also... I know it's not supposed to matter, but the zipper is not ykk on the interior. (Creed is J8H-9870)

Thanks!

I found this first...

"J8H-, J8Y- and M4B- prefixes are used in genuine bags but can be possible counterfeits especially if the font of the digits of the serial number seems slightly different. Please have them looked at by an expert - NOT a Coach store employee, many of whom may be Coach lovers but who have no training in recognising fakes, especially older ones. Fakes with these prefixes are usually pretty accurate, and care must be used especially with the J8*- prefix which seems to be a favorite with counterfeiters."

...and have now come to the experts :)

I agree with Hyacinth about the oddball turnlock. Though I think the quality of the bag looks like old Coach, that turnlock makes the entire bag look "off". Plus, the placement of the turnlock looks crooked to me.

I think Whateve is right that the turnlock was replaced. There are a bunch of websites that sell nothing but turnlocks and other purse fittings - many show Coach-type turnlocks and many are similar to the one pictured.

It's a very simple bag, but I certainly couldn't even guess about it's authenticity.

:smile1:

Thank you!

Hello everyone and thank you in advance!:smile1: After a long day of shoveling here in Massachusetts, I clicked on ebay and came across this gorgeous bag that I am praying is authentic....all I had time to do was a quick look through the Ebay Coach Italy guide in case the serial # was an obvious fake....fingers crossed...authentic and name?

I'm very hesitant to authenticate seemingly "good" Coach bags from the Philipplines. If you search the various AT Coach threads, there are multiple examples of fakes that are 5-star nearly perfect but they're fake.

Here's one example of a recent post where the bag appeared to be perfect. The entire serial number -- date code and style - seemed accurate, the font and text on the creed were (seemingly) correct and nearly every detail was right --- EXCEPT that in that case, the lining was the wrong color.

Personally, I wouldn't buy that bag based on the incorrect colors.

Hey BB, CYE, your PM box is full. :smile1:

It looks ok, probably a Royalton, #4403. Good luck!

Woah...those were little sorry!

Yep, the smooth leather on the inside shouldn't be 2 different colors.

I don't have any photos from the "H" plant in 1998 but the first 3 digits look too close together and the H looks too big. Comparing it to your other Court Bags is probably the best way to tell if it's ok, the only difference might be the type and length of the strap. The stitching above the pocket looks kind of wobbly too. And if there's a whitish line right at the bottom of the zipper fabric where it meets the leather of the pocket, that's not right either.

(I'm NOT liking the "new" Photobucket at all, I prefer photos I can enlarge, unless I'm missing something.)

Thanks Hyacinth...I think I'm just going to go with my gut in this one. It's too bad. .. Love tan but not fake tan lol

Hi Ladies! Happy Friday! I was apparently the only one at my thrift store this week looking for old leather Coach bags, so I'd appreciate your input on these seven (yes, seven) old girls.

Thank you so much in advance -

1) Navy Court Bag - United States
Creed No. J4C-9870
9.5L x 7.5H x 3D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/J4C-9870

2) Ginormic Bucket Bag - New York City
Creed No. 801-5835
13.5 tall x 8.5 diameter bottom

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/801-5835

3) Tan Tote/Shopper - United States
Creed: L1D-9813
13L x 7.25H x 3.75D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/L1D-9813

4) Brown Shoulder Bag - United States. This one is interesting, it has leather loops below the buckles and the interior pocket goes the entire length of the bag, similar to the Stewardess Bag. I also don't think I've seen a bag with the ends of the zippers finished this way either. It is nice.
Creed No. 031-9147
12L x 8H x 4D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/031-9147

5) Black Drawstring Bag: United States. The leather on this bag is very soft and flexible.
Creed No. 0471-944
11.5H x 10.25L x 5.5D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/0471-944

6) Black handbag - United States I've never seen a Coach bag like this before, the top is two flaps that fold over and connect with a magnetic snap. The snap has the right patent markings on the male side (USA.PAT.4021891 TOWANNY). (As an aside, I was surprised to see a magnetic snap on a pre-1994 bag, so I checked the date of the patent - the patent was actually issued in 1977! Who knew? Magnetic snaps are so 21st Century...)

Creed No. 0591-216
10.5L x 6.5H x 5D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/0591-216

7) Red Legacy Zip - United States
Creed No. J6D-9966
11.25L x 9H x 4.5D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/J6D-9966

Thanks in advance - I have a couple of bag with snaps at the ends of the zippers that seem unusual (hence my research on the snap patent) that I will post later. I really appreciate the help and especially the education!
