Good point, and the stitching at the top of the pocket is too thick and is the wrong color to be real. What's so strange is that everything else seems ok.
I passed on it. Thank you for the insight. If that is a fake instead of some kind of production fluke, it is truly frighteningly good. Every detail on the outside matches perfectly it seems.

Fortunately there seem to be a fair number of the equestrian slim buckets in the world that are legit, so I will just keep looking. After these last two though will be very cautious.

Edit: do you think I should tell the seller about this conversation? She was very friendly in private message when providing the creed. Obviously, she provided clear pictures and believes it to be legit, and we don't seem to know for sure either way....

Looks fine. The lining color should be lavender and the patch inside should be gray. I assume it just looks green in the picture.

You might ask her why it doesn't have a zipper on the pocket with the creed since other bags in that style seem to have one, and mention that you couldn't understand why the style number isn't right either. If she said that she bought it at a Coach store she'd probably be insulted, or pretend to be, if you told her it might be fake. Just say that the problem with the number and with it not having a zipper mean you'll have to pass on buying it. Or kust wait to see if she says anything about the number and the zipper.

The problem is that you usually don't know when a seller is lying or when they're telling the truth.

Bumping this in case you missed it.

I've never seen it before. Maybe DemRam will spot your post and recognise it. But if it's genuine there's nothing like that turnlock on any of my catalogs. Coach wasn't in the habit of changing an "iconic" piece of hardware like a turnlock either, at least not until they started making styles like the Dakotas, Madisons and Gramercys in Italy.

I'll go through my catalogs again, but I'd be leery about buying it, and it definitely shouldn't be reported either as long as there's a question about whether it's real. I'm not impressed with the quality of the stitching along the edges either.

(Just rechecked my mid to later 1980s catalogs, and there's nothing like it.)

Thanks. I was thinking that maybe the tab and turnlock were added on later. Maybe the original owner didn't like it being open at the top. The styling doesn't go with the rest of the bag.

Since when did Coach start to give only three choices of replacement hang tags (silver, brass, black leather)? Now those hang tags are going to be worth more than gold!

On another note, I just received an ebay handbag that was (almost) spot-on as authentic. To look at it in pictures you would think authentic. The pattern, creed/style were perfect. The only way to know it was a fake was that the leather was synthetic (feel and smell), the interior lining was not correct texture fabric, and the zipper was really hard to zip. I can only wonder how many people are getting duped. Very scary....

I agree with Hyacinth about the oddball turnlock. Though I think the quality of the bag looks like old Coach, that turnlock makes the entire bag look "off". Plus, the placement of the turnlock looks crooked to me.

I think Whateve is right that the turnlock was replaced. There are a bunch of websites that sell nothing but turnlocks and other purse fittings - many show Coach-type turnlocks and many are similar to the one pictured.

It's a very simple bag, but I certainly couldn't even guess about it's authenticity.

1- Probably since so many people have been taking advantage of Coach by scoring free ones and then reselling them on Ebay. The resellers ruined it for the buyers who legitimately need a replacement.

2- I'd really like to see the listing for that fake so I can save the photos for reference. If you're not comfortable posting it here, you can PM me with the info if you're willing to share it. Thanks!

I'm very hesitant to authenticate seemingly "good" Coach bags from the Philipplines. If you search the various AT Coach threads, there are multiple examples of fakes that are 5-star nearly perfect but they're fake.

Here's one example of a recent post where the bag appeared to be perfect. The entire serial number -- date code and style - seemed accurate, the font and text on the creed were (seemingly) correct and nearly every detail was right --- EXCEPT that in that case, the lining was the wrong color.

Personally, I wouldn't buy that bag based on the incorrect colors.

See my previous post about some of the fakes coming from the Philippines. (I'm not implying that your bag was from a Filippino seller but if there are scary-good fakes there, they're probably here too.

LIke Whateve pointed out, the tab doesn't look like typical Coach either. I've never seen a pointed tab like that on a classic or vintage bag. It would be interesting to see more shots of the different interior panels, like the one behind where the top tab is sewn and the pocket and area around the creed stamp.
