Hi Ladies! Happy Friday! I was apparently the only one at my thrift store this week looking for old leather Coach bags, so I'd appreciate your input on these seven (yes, seven) old girls.

Thank you so much in advance -

1) Navy Court Bag - United States
Creed No. J4C-9870
9.5L x 7.5H x 3D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/J4C-9870

2) Ginormic Bucket Bag - New York City
Creed No. 801-5835
13.5 tall x 8.5 diameter bottom

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/801-5835

3) Tan Tote/Shopper - United States
Creed: L1D-9813
13L x 7.25H x 3.75D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/L1D-9813

4) Brown Shoulder Bag - United States. This one is interesting, it has leather loops below the buckles and the interior pocket goes the entire length of the bag, similar to the Stewardess Bag. I also don't think I've seen a bag with the ends of the zippers finished this way either. It is nice.
Creed No. 031-9147
12L x 8H x 4D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/031-9147

5) Black Drawstring Bag: United States. The leather on this bag is very soft and flexible.
Creed No. 0471-944
11.5H x 10.25L x 5.5D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/0471-944

6) Black handbag - United States I've never seen a Coach bag like this before, the top is two flaps that fold over and connect with a magnetic snap. The snap has the right patent markings on the male side (USA.PAT.4021891 TOWANNY). (As an aside, I was surprised to see a magnetic snap on a pre-1994 bag, so I checked the date of the patent - the patent was actually issued in 1977! Who knew? Magnetic snaps are so 21st Century...)

Creed No. 0591-216
10.5L x 6.5H x 5D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/0591-216

7) Red Legacy Zip - United States
Creed No. J6D-9966
11.25L x 9H x 4.5D

http://s1273.beta.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/J6D-9966

Thanks in advance - I have a couple of bag with snaps at the ends of the zippers that seem unusual (hence my research on the snap patent) that I will post later. I really appreciate the help and especially the education!

1- seems to be ok
2- genuine Duffle Sac style 9085
3- ok, Legacy West Classic Shopper
4- genuine Classic Hobo, style 9855, circa 1990
5- probably a Drawstring Sac from the Lightweight Collection, style 4015, v. late 1980s-early 1990s
6- Terrace Bag from the West End Lightweights line, style 4117 c.1992
7- sorry, that one is questionable. The serial number prefix is the same as I've seen used on probable fakes, down to the exact shape of the numbers, font and even the underscore. The shape of the outside leather zipper pull doesn't look quite right either, it's too narrow where it's attached to the pull ring.

Six out of seven is a pretty good thrift shop average. :smile1:

Hyacinth, You know which one I could have sworn (with my very limited experience) that purse number 5 was a fake 'cos of the wavy creed outline. Live and learn, lol

Yep, the smooth leather on the inside shouldn't be 2 different colors.

I don't have any photos from the "H" plant in 1998 but the first 3 digits look too close together and the H looks too big. Comparing it to your other Court Bags is probably the best way to tell if it's ok, the only difference might be the type and length of the strap. The stitching above the pocket looks kind of wobbly too. And if there's a whitish line right at the bottom of the zipper fabric where it meets the leather of the pocket, that's not right either.

(I'm NOT liking the "new" Photobucket at all, I prefer photos I can enlarge, unless I'm missing something.)

Hyacinth... is there any chance that I could submit some additional photos for you to look at to be 100% sure on this? The lady that sold it to me says that she and her son took several bags to the antique roadshow and had them authenticated there. She's very upset and I don't want to make a mistake here :(

WA-HOO!!! Six out of seven is GREAT! :yahoo:
You should have seen the ones I left on the rack. (Think "Goach") I was the most iffy about the Legacy West Shopper and the Terrace Bag, but thought I had that Legacy Zip nailed.

Thank you so much!

Boy, Legacy Zips #9966 are tough. The zipper pull wasn't as skinny as the fake I had earlier (which also had the wrong plant code) but it isn't as wide as the authentic 9966 I compared it too. Interestingly, when shopping I looked at the zipper pull and compared it to the Duffle Sac and the Classic Hobo, which both have a more tapering pull than an authentic Legacy Zip, so I got a false sense of security. Goes to show you really have to know the specific purse.

Also, I think I just reaaaally reaaaally wanted that red bag...

Just for everyone's info, I put zipper and creed photos from the earlier fake, a real Legacy Zip and this red bag together for comparison.

Thanks again -

Comments: No serial number - so either really old or fake, right?
Actually if you use the zoom in, it looks like you can see a little bit of a serial number. Maybe the seller just left the serial number out of the photo.

That seller need to learn to set the white balance on her photos, you can't even tell what color the bag is.

I think the waves are just folds in the leather. Here's a better photo. (It is one of those bags with a little opening and the creed is waaaay down inside.)

Edited: Doh! this is a photo of the Terrace Bag, I need to learn to count!

1- Everything seems right except the serial number. Even the seller has the right number in the title but the bag says -9146 which isn't even close. Whoever stamped it must have been flying around another universe at the time, especially since style 9146 didn't even come out until 1999. There's a small chance it might be fake because of the number but everything else seems ok.

2- seems ok, probably a Convertible Clutch

3- looks ok.
