Thanks! I just wanted to confirm that the picture Coach used on their website actually wasn't correct. That sometimes happens, and those differences have to be checked out. On Coach's site the patch at the center of the left edge doesn't have the appliqued C's, but I found one on Ebay that does and it also looks genuine.

That's why Coach's photos should only be used as a guideline, they're never completely dependable. I'm posting Coach's pic below so you can see what I mean - the one you're buying has the correct patches, Coach's picture doesn't. Several of the patches are different on the production version. Yours is the correct version and it looks genuine.

Thank you so much!!!!

Anyone knows which year could this be made? and the name? serial #798-3817. How to date the pre-94 bags?

Thanks!

We need measurements of the bag and if it was or is in an active auction, we need to see the link. If you own the bag and took the photos, it's better to have a few larger photos of important details like the creed and strap attachments and placement of the pockets. Collage photos are usually too small to be useful.

As for dating - buy copies of as many pre-1994 catalogs as you can find and look for the years that style was made.

The Coach website states Ramblers Legacy "Part of Coach collections since 1989".

And if you do as I suggested in my previous answer and buy every Coach catalog between 1989 and 1998, you won't find a Rambler's Legacy shown until the Fall Preview 1998 issue. If you can find a Rambler's Legacy with a year code from before 1998, please post it.

We always advise people to NOT depend on any information received from Coach employees, whether at their main office or their stores. Apparently whoever writes the ad and catalog copy falls under the same warning. You can believe Coach or you can believe the people who actually know what they're talking about - take your pick.

Below is page 12 of Coach's Fall Preview 1998 catalog. Note the word "NEW" in the Rambler's Legacy description.

Hey ladies,

Not sure if this is real because under the flap the C pattern isn't symmetrical?

They are also selling another coach bag that is a definite fake..

Not sure of the style name.
off Kijiji

That signature flap bag is fake.

This one from the same seller is also fake:

If kijiji has a way to report fakes, please do so.

I've been really lucky lately at the thrift stores and have several bags to clean up and get info on. I'm not going to be asking for authentication all at once though...I don't want to hog everyone's time!
I purchased these at different Salvation Army stores and took the pictures myself.
They are both fairly large bags. Unfortunately, the creed on the darker bag has faded considerably and is very hard to read. It appears that the number is D1D-9058...it also has the target or bullseye stamped diagonally up on the right of the creed.

Both are ok, the first is a Legacy Leather Hobo style 9058 and the second is a Bleecker Basket style 9302.

Thank you! Hyacinth. You guys are so knowladgeable. I've been learning a lot after joined this forum. :balloon:

I remember seeing Rambler's Legacy with year code before 1998. Here is one: J6D-9061. If this is authentic, it should be made in 1996, right? Pls take a look.

Like what seems to be a majority of the classic bags with serial numbers beginning with "J", that one's very probably fake. I don't know why counterfeiters love that letter so much but it's gotten to the point where any Coach classic with that month code should be looked at very closely.

Along with the serial number the one at Etsy has a front flap that isn't quite "squared" enough, the sides and especially the bottom of the flap are just a bit too curved. The center part of the bottom edge of the flap should be a straight line. Compare it to the others on Ebay and the picture I posted from the catalog. And none of the 30 other ones listed are older than August 1998.

And BTW, if you measure the distance to the right and left of the turnlock, you may find that the turnlock is off-center. Notice that the flap looks kind of crooked? That's because it IS. I'm getting a distance of 60cm from the center of the turnlock to the left flap seam vs. 64cm from the turnlock to the right seam.

And yet another BTW - the same seller has at least one more possible fake - a Tribeca Flap with the same fake J6D- prefix. The Tribeca Flap is another style that wasn't even released until 1998. The Coach stamp on the front is also in the wrong position.
