Greetings, ladies.

After re-reading the recommended authenticity thread Hyacinth noted/wrote/compiled, I worry I may have fallen for a fake, but that's only based on my confusion over the serial numbers.

Except for the good creed closeup, these are the seller's original photos. It's a beautiful little thing, so I hope it's authentic. I've just never seen one like this, and the serial number has me confused. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what I would have said that would make you worry about this one. What part of my post made you wonder if it was authentic? Maybe I can make my comments clearer.

The first one is a genuine Murphy Bag from 1997, the second is a genuine Station Bag from the same year, and the red one is a genuine Station Bag from 1995.

Nice finds for five bucks! :D

Wow! Awesome. They are all very pretty bags. I can't believe how good they look for their age and they were buried under a bunch of generic plasticy purses! This almost makes me feel better about my bad luck earlier this week. Thanks so much for your time.

Item: Helen's Legacy Red Shoulder Bag
Listing number: #320747449262
Seller: looblit05
Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320747449262#ht_752wt_932

I really want one of these bags but for this much I need it to be real. I emailed her to see if I could return it if it's not real and she said no. She said she did all the research to make sure it's real. Thanks in advance guys!

The bag in the listing looks ok.

BTW, if you ever happen to buy a fake, the seller HAS to take it back or better yet to refund your money and tell you to destroy the fake. Selling fakes is against Ebay rules and the seller has to refund your money as long as you can provide valid proof that the item is counterfeit.

It may be the headache I'm toting, but when I read through the specific posts you recommended, the one-letter-two-numbers then four numbers thing in my bag confused me. I'm going to bet it's the headache and I need to reread it later. :p You're pretty clear 99% of the time!

I appreciate the info.

I found this information in a previous thread. Does this still apply? The original post was in 2008:

Serial numbers beginning with the letters N thru Z are not valid Coach numbers and are almost certainly fake

sometimes things change because, as noted in a later post "And yes, Coach constantly changes the "rules" and there are always exceptions to almost every rule" For example, Coach did not add the fourth digit in the serial prefix until it was necessary to prevent year repetition, in 2004.

OMG! Thank you so much! That makes me feel so much better to know that I can automatically return if I buy off EBAY. What about Etsy or Bonanza? Is there anything to protect me if I get a fake bag?

Ok, if I can help "de-fuzz" the details, please let me know. :smile1:

answers to AUTHENTICITY questions!!!

You're not going to find ANY information on manufacturing codes because Coach has never published any. All the info mentioned in other posts was collected by Coach experts from the creeds and stampings on genuine items and the only way to find out what the codes mean is to ask. Coach doesn't publish any information about codes, manufacturing, etc. And those of us who've collected all that information aren't going to publish it since that would just help the crooks make more accurate fakes.

Some of the codes still aren't 100 percent solid and seem to have multiple applications. Also if you keep reading the Answers to Authenticity Questions thread up to the recent posts you'll find a bit more information.

and more at Ebay:

Again, everything is deduction, NOT published information by the manufacturer. Keep in mind that the Answers thread is constantly updated including the Fake Serial Numbers list and the entire thing has to be read to find all the updated and corrected information.

I hadn't thought about the information not being "out there" to help fakers fake better. I really am trying to learn all I can so I don't have post EVERY listing. Some fakes are really are very believable - fortunately, the side-by-side comparison pics help very much and I am able to build my own personal library of info... which I will be sure NOT to post :)

Again, I apologize to be asking the questions that may seem obvious. It explains why I couldn't find the information in previous posts... that would be a problem for Coach, and authentic buyers/sellers.

I wrote to the seller & she said the pics of the creed and # is the clearest she can get. Can anyone make out the #s? She sees the # No. 28D 9010.

So far I'm having zero luck with Ebay listings!

Wow. That's a seriously worn-down creed stamp. So far I haven't found a style that matches either number 9010 or 9910 - 9010 belongs to a kind of duffle sac but it should be suede, not smooth leather, and 9910 doesn't fit the style at all. I've searched for every "duffle" in my files that ends in a zero and can't find anything except a Maggie Duffle that matches the measurements but the number of the Maggie is 9019, and the last digit in the bag's serial number just doesn't look like a 9. Of the first 3 digits all that's readable is a "D" plant code.

I'm just not comfortable giving an opinion on that one. Maybe someone more familiar with Duffle styles might take a look?
