I'm not Hyacinth but I do have the book.

It may still be available from various book sellers.

The title is: The Factory
Portrait of a Leathergoods Factory in Downtown New York City.

Photos by Jeremy Lezin Words by Miles Kahn.

THANK you DemRam! My google searches for "coach factory book" were coming up short. I forgot you're the vintage expert! Thanks so much, I'm going to order it as soon as I find it.

Item: Brown Suede Duffle 9187, China 1996
Seller: St. Vincent’s Charity Shop $3
Dimensions: 10” high, 12” wide at the top, 4” deep across the bottom

Comments: I had doubts about the authenticity of this bag, but it was very cheap so I bought on the off-chance that it might be genuine. Style number 9187 does seem to be correct for a suede duffle like this but I haven’t been able to find a picture of the creed for comparison.

The bag seems to be well-made and I didn’t find the number on the fakes list, but I am troubled by the wording on the creed. It refers to “glove-tanned cowhide” and I expected it to say “suede trimmed with cowhide” or something similar.

Please give an opinion on authenticity and let me know if you need more pictures. If it is a fake then I’ve given a $3 donation to charity, and that’s okay. Thanks for your help!

Now that I look closely at the creed patch it doesn't appear to be evenly rectangular. I guess that's one more reason to think that the bag may be a fake!

This looks exactly like my new gathered wallet. I looked at all your pictures and it is identical to mine. The stitches on the inside are a little uneven and of different lengths on mine as well. I have the raspberry color and the tag is identical also. I've used mine for several weeks and just noticed the coach logo is ever so slightly askew! I bought mine at a FP Coach store.
That looks like one of the newer style satin dust bags. Maybe it came with a small handbag and she's including it it be nice? None of my wallets I've purchased in the last year have come with any kind of dust bag.
Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for the confirmation. I was pretty sure it was real. I told myself I shouldn't get one on ebay but it was such a good deal and the perfect color. It is gorgeous! I guess I was really lucky and I got a dustbag too! The Coach logo is askew on a few things I bought at a FP store too.

I do not see a problem with it. It is a Baxter Satchel as previously stated.

Satchel, ~11"x8"x5"
thrift store, $30
Awesome leather feel, but I don't know enough about this to even hazard a guess as to what it is. Truly hoping it's real (I'm in love) but styles with similar handles, from what I recall, didn't have round hardware.. There are two pocket flaps inside - one zippered with creed, one not.

I want one! I love this bag!

I believe it's the Baxter Satchel, style 9903, but I'm not absolutely positive. Probably from the early 1990's.

Wait for confirmation. Looks good to me.

Thanks, ladies! I feel quite elated now - searching for Baxters, it does seem to match. Since it's pretty squished, I had no idea it would be so plump.. so thrilled!

That's a great bag!

Isn't it?? I almost missed it because it was behind that "special" counter at thrift stores, and was buried by crappy stuff.. When the saleslady handed it to me to look at, I was just.. :woohoo:

I want one! I love this bag!

I totally fell in love with it! I decided that I was going to rehab it thoroughly and wear it no matter what..

The badly cut creed patch is a big problem, along with the wording. But the biggest problem is that style 9187, Small Suede Duffle Sac, doesn't show up in my catalogs until Holiday 2001, where it's listed as "new". The hardware on yours isn't right for a bag from 1996 - have you ever seen a strap buckle like that on a near-vintage bag? - neither is the extra-long tab on the top zipper pull, or the extra pockets inside for cell phones & other small items. A suede bag from 1996 also wouldn't have had any lining. And by the time that style had been released, plant "J" was in China, not the US.

Sorry, it's a really close fake but the creed mistakes are big ones.

Thanks, I had my doubts but I really appreciate your confirmation. I should learn to listen to my doubts! Thanks again!

My mom picked this up at a thrift store earlier today, but I'm not sure if it is authentic. I also am not sure what the exact name for this is. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You are correct. It looks fine for a 1998 Ergo Mini Zip.
