Looks ok - small bag, right? Mambo Hobo from 1999.

First of all, tell us what you think looks fake. And please understand, if you're not familiar with older bags from 7 or 8 years ago like this one, you CAN'T compare them to newer styles, they're not going to be the same at all. And if you're judging any Coach based on some online Authenticity Guide, almost every one ever posted anyplace on the 'net is either partly or completely wrong.

-- Well first off, the Coach tag that hangs from the strap? I read: stitching must meet in corners at a 90degree angle, one of the corners is at an arch. The creed says made in Thailand, is that correct? Is the double stitching rule true? Some of the stitching looks thinner to me.
*Thanks for the suggestions on what to actually write...

Please read the signature on Hyacinth's profile:

Ignore any "Rules" you find in those useless online Authenticity Guides, they're almost ALL wrong - outdated, only true for a few styles, partly true only for a few years, or were never true in the first place, including the ridiculous YKK Zipper Rule. YKK zippers on a Coach DON'T prove it's genuine. Coach has used at least FIVE different brands of zippers, anyone can buy genuine YKK zippers, and many fakes have fake YKK zippers. How hard is it to fake a zipper?[/FONT]

Hi there, I'm new to this forum and new to Coach purses. I've always wanted one and my dear hubby bought one from a friend whose wife was selling a few. She assured him it was real and it looks real to me, but from my lack of experience I really wouldn't have a clue. Here are a few pictures, my camera isn't the greatest my apologies if the flash was too bright. Thanks for your help!

Thank you so much! :) Btw is there anything you can tell me about it, like what style & year it is etc? Thank you again!
It's called a signature stripe medium shoulder bag and your bag was made in January, 2008. I believe the original suggested retail was $258.

The Coach expert who believes that Thai Coach bags don't exist got her information from someone at Coach, who also told her that Coach DID make bags in Korea. Now since every Korean-stamped bag we've ever seen is fake, and almost every Thai-stamped bag I've ever seen looks genuine, I've got to believe that once again some horse's patoot at Coach got things completely wrong.

:D I have to agree. When I was stationed in Korea, it was VERY VERY typical to walk into a genuine leather dealer (and there were some VERY good ones) to buy a designer knock off. They were VERY VERY good - but the key to fake vs real? The seller asked you bluntly: "You want Coach stamp, Prada, or Dooney & Bourke stamp, please?" :graucho: Yeaaaahhh... The Korean vendors are excellent fake makers. I have a "Coach" briefcase to prove it. (Keeping, not selling!)

There's always going to be some variation in stitching, people are human and they make mistakes. That's just one of the reasons why those authenticity guides are not just confusing but actually dangerous.

There are ALMOST NO UNIVERSAL RULES. And anything that may have been a "rule" for one style or for a few months of product will change, because Coach changes constantly as does every aspect of their production including creeds, hangtags, serial numbers - EVERYTHING. You could post every single rule ever found on the internet in as many online Guides as you can find and we could find exceptions, mistakes, or just plain negations for every single one of them except maybe for two. NONE of the rules should ever be depended on, except for the ones that say
1- a Coach handbag that has a C pattern or Coach logo pattern as the the predominant outside pattern should never have a C pattern or Logo lining (there are a scattering of bags with Cs or patches of Cs on the outside that DO have a C lining
and
2- Coach bags were never made in Korea.

About your Thailand question - read my post written as a followup to your question. And if you want to learn as much as possible from this forum, read NOT just the one or two answers to your question but the answers to other questions too. It only take a few minutes and you might learn something useful, like the "Thailand question" post # 1095:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-73.html#post19727195

And please take all the nonsense in each and every Authenticity Guide you've ever read and throw it out the window, because 95 percent if it is either nonsense or outright BS.

If you'd like to throw a few of those Rules at us to see how valid they are, no problem. We'll be glad to show you examples of why they can never be depended on. Or you can Search this forum and especially the Answers to Authenticity Questions thread because many of them have already been debunked here.
