Don't bet your social security check, Hyacinth! :) Spend it on bags like me is more fun!
Do fakers do the coach metal tag too? Do you think this one is real? Thank you!

Nope, I'm doing just the opposite this week - clearing out what I never use and either donating or selling it to ClothesMentor. :D

They do fake metal tags, but the really professional ones have gotten very good at copying, and often with the best-made fakes there's no way to tell, like with this one.

Did you buy it separately or did it come with a handbag?

It's genuine. In fact I just hung exactly the same keyfob on one of the bags I have picked out for Memorial Day weekend. :D

The style number was 7392 and it was called the American Heart Keyfob. It's probably around 8 years old so it's not surprising you haven't seen it before. And I don't think it came with a hangtag, mine doesn't have one.

Oh wow! That's so great! Thank you!!

I purchased it separately from Ebay seller more2858 .

Thank you for all your amazing knowledge. I have learned a lot from the past couple of weeks reading the comments and examining photos to learn. Based on what I know so far, I believe all of the following creeds indicate the bags are authentic. Please help verify if my assumption is true. Thank you so much! I love my schooling here!!!!

It's really impossible for me to tell, and to be honest, I don't really study them that closely because any hangtag can be changed, swapped or stolen in about 5 seconds, so the hangtag on a bag does nothing to prove it's genuine. Sorry, if someone else wants to take a look, they're welcome to.

First of all, no ONE thing can ever prove something's genuine. We base authentications on a large number of factors all of which have to be correct for us to give an opinion that a bag or other Coach item is real.

Any creed can be copied and faked. Outlet Bulls-eye stamps HAVE been copied and used in fakes, we've seen them. The "overstamping" marks above or below the digits of the older serial numbers have been faked, and extremely accurately too. The old "original" Coach creeds with glued-in numbers are probably genuine but if a professional counterfeiter decides to fake those vintage bags, it won't take them long to copy the stamps and numbers.

For instance, below is an example of a Madison Satchel with what looks like correct overstamping lines. Until you actually read the creed.

So NONE of those creeds are absolute proof that the bags they're in are genuine. There are plenty of fakes out there with perfectly made creeds, and probably some that we've never caught. All you can say is that some are more likely to be genuine than others.

Thank you so much Hyacinth! I told the seller that I was an active member of tPF and that I would have the bag authenticated and let her know the result ... After I said that she did come back with an email letting me know that I could return it.
I also cannot read the serial number, its there and looks like the right type of font and all numbers but its on really crinkly leather and so very faded, like I've seen on a few other fakes.
The seller still believes (prior to you validating it is fake ) that the bag is authentic - she said, "I believe (as do others) what happened was the bean bag stamp was accidentally used on a series of bags during the 70's. They came out with promotional bean bags during this time as well as bean filled tags. You can find several Coach items with this stamp, bags, organizers, etc.. I do believe this is authentic but you can return it. "

Hyacinth, I'll share what you said so that hopefully when she gets the bag back she does not attempt to resell it (watch for Corkpop on Ebay ).

Thank you so much Hyacinth! I appreciate all your help very much!

Except that the Bean Bag paperweight wasn't even introduced until 1990, NOT the 1970s. The Keyfob came out several years later. And the ONLY items other than fake handbags I or any other of the highly experienced authenticators both here and in the last six years on Ebay have EVER seen, are the paperweight and the keyfob. Coach doesn't "accidently" use a bogus stamp on hundreds if not thousands of bags without SOMEONE noticing. Even bags that have a stamping or style number mistake are either destroyed, sold to employees, or sent to the outlets.

The format of the Bean Bag creed stamp itself ONLY fits the late 80s-early 90s because of the way the LOCATION OF THE PLANT is stated. Anything stamped in the 1970s would simply have said "Made in New York City USA" which Coach used EXCLUSIVELY until 1987. "Made in the United States" wasn't used or even thought of being used until 1988 when Coach opened a second plant NOT in NYC.

If she'd like to come here and discuss dates with me, she may want to read the Salearea Guides first, the dates there for these stamping and formatting changes have been very thoroughly researched..

Comments: Authentic? I can't find another with this style number. I want to get my great neice her first Coach. She's only 3 so something like this would be perfect! TIA!

I don't have a style number for that exact bag but it's one of the Girlie Hobo or Demi bags from 2001. Please don't depend on all numbers for older bags to be on the internet, because they're not. I don't see any problems with it.
