Hi, here is the front of the bag as well as the creed. I have never seen the "P" on a bag before, Coach told me it meant "pilot." Thanks for looking at it.

It looks good to me but wait for BeenBurned.

The "P" does mean Pilot bag, usually a style made in small numbers at least a few months before the style is scheduled to go into full production. Coach does this to find out from the buyers if there are any changes they might want to make, and to get an idea of how popular the style will be.

Pilot bags might have some details that are different from the full production bag such as linings, hangtags, stitching details or creed stampings. This particular bag came out as a Pilot a few months before the full production version and had a different creed - the later version had a Legacy creed stamped with the words in gold script.

Here's a genuine full-production version of the same bag:

I agree that it looks fine.

Hi,
Ms BeenBurned.
Its me again..
Can you help me authenticate this coach bag.

Item: AUTHENTIC COACH BAG
Listing number:270887845450
Seller:cheely38 ( 14)
Link: http://www.ebay.ph/itm/AUTHENTIC-CO...=017&category=1063&cmd=ViewItem#ht_1557wt_934
Comments:thanks in advance..

I do not believe it is authentic. I do not believe the bag came in that color. The zipper pull inside is wrong. I do not like the looks of that creed. I believe the creed should be scripted out. It should not have come with a registration card.
NSP is correct. That bag is fake. Do not buy from cheely38. At best, the seller mixes authentic and fakes.

Please report that listing.

Hi Hyacinth! Thank you so much for replying to my inquiry - I feel so vindicated now!! I believe you are correct about the buyer's remorse. She waited until the last minute to bid and used the BUY IT NOW option, when she probably would have won it for the starting bid of $109.99, since there were no other bids. I thought it was very strange when that occurred. Her eBay ID is "guru534" (155 eBay transactions with 100% feedback).

This is guru534 1st email to me:

"It may have been unintentional but as a former employee of COACH,Inc it was immediately obvious by several flaws in the attempt to pass it off, that this is not an authentic COACH purse. If you would please issue me a refund immediately and I will of course send you the purse. If a refund is denied I will have to notify Ebay,PayPal and COACH,Inc in New York that fraud has been committed. As I am sure you know, the penalty for selling a counterfeit product is serious. If this was not intentional I will certainly continue to give you positive feedback as soon as my money is refunded. Sincerely, guru534".

My response:
Wow, the errors in the Coach # were not intentional at all. I purchased this bag thru an eBay siller not too long ago and only carried it a couple of times. I assumed that it was a real Coach. It looks real to me, and the Coach creed looks real to me too, although I am not an expert, as I am with Dooney & Bourke. Threats are not necessary, as you will get your money back as soon as I receive the bag in the return mail. I will not refund the return shipping. I believe it's an authentic Coach purse, but it's certainly not worth arguing about. I be willing to bet that this is authentic, but again, not worth the trouble. Nothing I did in the listing or in the selling of this purse was to intentionally defraud anyone, I would NEVER do that, and take offense at your insinuation. This is a hobby to me and I always take the selling, describing of the item, and the careful shipping of the item VERY seriously. I've never been accused of selling a fraud. Please return it and I'll refund your money promptly. I LOVE the bag and would be very happy to have it back. Have a nice evening - Kimberly

2nd email from guru534:
"In addition, you stated that style 9718 has been retired.....not true. Style 9718 is registered to an entirely different purse. You stated that it would be stamped for style 9340. Style 9340 is also registered to an entirely different purse. There are several other fraudulent things in the purse that I will be ready to share with the proper parties should a refund be denied. Sincerely, guru534"

My response:
So, I suppose this listing is for a fraudulent purse also: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Black...137?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item4cfbe88901

The eBay template I used to list this bag was also used to list another Coach bag (Style #9340) that I'm selling right now if you take a look at my listing for the Coach Hippie Saddle Bag. It was a totally honest mistake that I forgot to change the Style number when I used the same template for the next Coach listing. Again, I'm truly sorry for the mixup, but I am very upset that you have threatened me when it was really not necessary for an honest mistake in the Style #. I still stand by the authenticity of the bag; the seller I bought it from had a stellar feedback profile and specialized in selling Coach.

Last email from guru534:
"Hi XXXXXXXXX,
Please accept my apology for being so harsh....I can tell by your response that you absolutely did not intend to sell a purse that was not authentic. I will send the purse back to you tomorrow and I know in my heart that you will send me a refund and we will just put this behind us. No harm done, no hard feelings and I will not mention it to anyone and give you very positive feedback. Live and learn as they say. guru534"

It appears to me that for all intent and purposes, the only fraud is guru534. Do you have any suggestions about how to handle the transaction going forward? Should I just chalk it up to experience and refund her money, as she is requesting? Again, thanks so much for authenticating this bag.

Did you point her to this thread? And I certainly would not refund any shipping.
I agree that shipping in both directions should be on her.

Based on her lack of knowledge, it wouldn't surprise me if she did (or does) work for Coach. As Hyacinth noted, Coach employees are the least knowledgeable "experts" on Coach.

This was a BIN ending soon and I could not resist it as a rehab project. I just love the details on this bag! I hope it passes the authentication test :) As always, THANK YOU ladies for your time and expertise!
Did you win? Can you request a picture of the creed?

Note that I suspect the bag is in worse condition than it looks. She sold the bag in November, buyer returned for condition and seller didn't refund until a dispute was filed.

Hi BeenBurned, thank you very much for confirming!

I did see that, so I am expecting I have my work cut out for me! I thought it would be a good challenge though, I don't see any major dark stains or scuffs on the leather, and most of the soiling *looks* to be on the bottom of the bag. I did win, and I already paid (BIN), if you think it looks questionable I will ask for a pic of the creed. If you think it appears OK, I will just wait until I get it and then post my own pics for verification. Thanks so much :smile1:

I just bought this on ebay and wanted to know if it was the real deal before I send payment - I realize the seller only has 2 feedback, but the price was so low (at least, I think so!) and I didn't want to miss it. Please give your feedback! :)

It may be genuine, but we really need to see a photo of the creed patch showing the creed statement and serial number. Coach did a series of special Legacy Archive bags when they opened their Bleecker Street boutique in 2008 or 2009 and this looks like one of them, maybe a Bleecker Street Suede Haversack style 12797 but that's just a guess.

I'd ask for a photo of the creed, and wouldn't be uncomfortable paying for it - just use caution and pay with Paypal funded by a credit card.

I just got the creed patch... here it is!

It appears to be okay but I'd like to see the creed.

ETA: I see Hyacinth beat me to the punch.

I appreciate it! Thanks!
You're welcome.
