Hi, I recently purchased this brown suede Leigh online. When I received it, I was not sure about the creed, as most I have seen are in gold lettering. Coach told me that these numbers do match up to a brown suede Leigh they released, with a polyester Legacy lining (??? I had never seen that either!). Does it appear to be authentic? Thank you! (I have never posted pics here, so hopefully I am posting them correctly....):smile1:

Thank you very much. How can I tell in the future since the last numbers are from a legitimate line?
Please refer to post #1 and post the link to the listing and the seller ID.

If necessary, refer the seller here for advice. Hopefully, she'll give you a full refund of every cent you paid. You shouldn't be out anything at all because she was wrong to list a fake, whether she listed as "Coach" or not.

Hi, I sent message to seller, and she has already refunded my money. She was very nice, and told me to just donate it since it was not authentic. Thank you for helping me with that!

Thanks, Hyacinth! :smile1:

Do you think the bath and polish method will work for the purse ? (As per some of the posts in the rehab and recovery section..)

Hopefully Katev or DemRam can answer that question, or maybe someone at the main Coach forum can. They've done dozens of "purse rescues" and have a lot more experience than I do about what can be done to get a tired Coach back into good condition.

Can someone please help me with authenticating this bag? Here is the info from my listing:

Hi, I'm a first time poster and have visited the TPF now and then. Now, I need your help. I'm an avid collector of handbags, mostly Dooney & Bourke, but recently have been bit by the Coach vintage bags. I purchased a Coach bag several months ago on eBay from a Coach seller with a stellar feedback profile, and recently decided to resell it on eBay. I sold the bag for $139.99 and the buyer just received the bag and basically "insinuated" that I committed fraud by selling a fake, and wants a refund. She said she was a former employee of Coach and that this is obviously a fake. The bag looks very authentic to me, and I researched this style on eBay and the Internet and found several other bags with the same style #9718 that looked identical to the one I bought from reputable sellers that specialized in Coach bags. I would never intentionally sell or buy a fake bag. I believe she thinks this is a fake because I forgot to change the Style # from 9340 to 9718 in the description, although it is correct in the title of the listing. I was using the template from another of my Coach listings, and neglected to update the number in the body of the description. I appreciate any help you can provide me with the authentication issue.

I don't understand why she thinks the bag you sold her was fake, other than the fact that Coach employees (if she even IS an ex-employee, which I seriously doubt) know LESS about genuine Coach classic and vintage bags than anyone else I've ever come across.

Also just so you know, there is a "clique" of Ebay buyers who claim to be former Coach employees and who enjoy browbeating sellers into removing genuine bags from Ebay, or buying bags and then claiming they're fake in order to basically blackmail the seller into giving them a partial refund - has your buyer dropped any hints about a partial refund yet? These bullies not only are NOT former Coach employees, but they know absolutely NOTHING about older Coaches.I'm wondering if your buyer is one of them - please post the buyer's ID here if she continues harrassing you about a genuine bag. In fact, post it anyway so the sellers here can add it to their Blocked Bidder List.

The bag in the listing is a GENUINE Legacy Crescent Bag made in 2002. There is absolutely nothing fake about it, all details are correct and the creed stamping is genuine. If the buyer is claiming that she thought she was buying a style # 9340 when the correct style number is shown in 2 primary locations in the listing AND you have a complete set of photos showing every angle of the bag including the creed patch and serial number, then she's either an idiot or a crook. Style # 9340 was a Retro Hippie Hobo and could never possibly be mistaken for a Legacy Crescent, the only similarity is a "saddlebag" sort of look - I've posted a photo of style 9340 below.

The bag in your listing even has an outlet stamp indicating it was transferred to a Coach Outlet from a full-price store. Although I've seen fakes of that stamp on newer bags, in a classic leather bag it's a very strong indicator of authenticity, and any "former Coach employee" whose job consisted of anything more complicated than sweeping the floors after closing time would know that.

Your buyer has NO basis whatsoever to any claim of the bag being fake - it sounds more like buyer's remorse with a touch of extortion thrown in, especially since there are other bags in that same style currently listed for less than what she paid (and all the details in those bags also match the details in yours, BTW).

It will be interesting to see once you've posted the buyer's ID if she bids on any of those less expensive bags. But please do post the ID here as a warning to other Ebayers, and feel free to refer her to this post - if she wants to try and justify her BS claim to me, she's welcome to try.

The only other possibility I can think of is that she thought she was bidding on the style 9340 that you also have listed. But if that's the case, that's HER problem, not yours.

I'm sorry you're going through this. But there's been a huge increase in the number of "poisonous" buyers on Ebay in the last few years and it looks like you managed to get stuck with one of them.
