Thanks so much!

I am not sure you saw this in another post, but I noticed someone referenced this forum in how they knew the bag was authentic. Is that OK to do?

Thanks!
I think it's okay to do that. Lots of tPF members state in their listings that they are members here, but always take that with a grain of salt.

They can say they're a member whether they are or not. Plus, anyone can join and being a PF'er doesn't mean that the buyer or seller is honest.

Evaluate every listing on its own merits.

I do value your expertise! I have learned so much and am having a great time with this! My girls also get to see everything and have benefited from my new past time of purse shopping!

Thanks!

Please read my posts at Ebay on serial numbers. My Guides and the one you asked about earlier both mention when Coach started adding the style number to the serial number.

"...Any serial number from before 1994 that’s all numbers does NOT include the style number and can’t be used to identify or authenticate the bag. It doesn’t mean that a bag is fake if the last three or four digits don’t seem to belong to the right style - they’re not supposed to... "

Hi Hyacinth!
So I just finished reading your fantastic post! Very informative indeed! So if I apply what I've learned would it be safe to assume that a bag made after 1994 would use the last four digits to describe the style. If I look at the creed of the particular bag posted it would state that the 7 from 272 would mean it was made in 1997....also when you mentioned in the post that after 94 there are 3 digits....with letters and numbers? Showing the month/yr and plant? So then the 272 would also raise flags? Now if this bag was pre- 1994 then none of that would apply? As mentioned previously I was told by the seller that this bag (duffel bucket) was made between 1988 - 90's and that her mother purchased the bag in the late 90's. So again because it was purchased in the late 90's the creed should be a letter....then a number...then a letter and after the dash 9085 or have I still gotten it wrong? My gosh is it overwhelming! I guess the thing to ask would be....if you saw the listing:

would it raise any red flags?.......thanks again for sharing all your
knowledge ;-))

Woops forgot to mention the blue around the zipper......did coach ever do that? It's the first of that style that I've ever come across so far ;-)

Serial numbers from 1994 or later MUST START WITH A LETTER of the alphabet. If it doesn't then it's from before 1994.
"Any serial number from before 1994 that’s all numbers does NOT include the style number and can’t be used to identify or authenticate the bag..."
http://reviews.ebay.com/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts_W0QQugidZ10000000034886433

Read the YKK Zipper guide:
"Coach even used an "industrial-style" Talon zipper that was set into a blue denim-colored fabric base on many of its early styles from the 70s and 80s..."
http://reviews.ebay.com/Coach-and-the-YKK-Zipper-Myth-the-Basic-Facts_W0QQugidZ10000000040073710

And it doesn't matter when something was bought, what's important - and the ONLY thing shown in serial numbers - is when it was MADE. Most people don't remember when they actually bought something after a few years anyway.

can someone help me authenticate this coach bag. thanks

can someone help me authenticate this coach bag. thanks
Is this bag in a listing somewhere? Showing the source is helpful. (That's why we request a posting format in post #1 of the thread. It's helpful to see other items that are listed as well as the seller or website history.

I'm not familiar with this style and I can't quite read the serial number.

Please post a bit more information.

Edited to add:
It appears that the creed indicates a style of 13093. The only picture I can find of a bag that matches the style of that item is on a counterfeit-selling Chinese website.

This isn't to say that the bag you've pictured is fake but we certainly need more info.

Thanks so much for all the links and info Hyacinth! I've saved them all so that I can use them as a reference :-)
