I just read the whole discussion about the bag that kimhisc bought. I respect the opinions that experts have already made regarding this bag, however, I feel that I have to comment on this.

When I first saw the initial thread about this bag on the ebay board, there were some details of the bag that I was not comfortable with, but I didn't step in and comment because I was waiting to see pictures of the bottom of the bag. I was concerned about the missing rivets on the sides of the bag, especially after comparing to a bag made in the exact month and year. There was also a quality to the fabric that wasn't right. While texture of suede and leather may not be readily apparent in pictures, the fabric texture looked off. (Without going into specifics, this is a common detail I've seen before.)

After looking at the pictures of the bag in kimhisc's Photobucket, especially of the bottom of the bag, the creed, and the underside of the magnet, I am VERY concerned about this bag. I know that details can vary with different production cycles, factories, etc. and this has already been discussed, however, there are things that are not right with this bag. In particular, the picture of the magnet and the bottom of the bag. That is not a magnet that Coach uses. The feet on the bottom of the bag are not right.

Kimhisc does have the bag in her possession so she is able to see (and feel) more closely the other details that may not be apparent in pictures. With a bag like this, I believe that having it in one's possession and handling it is really necessary. There are things you can feel that you can't tell in pictures.
I trust Starry's judgement and would strongly recommend finding someone or somewhere to sent this bag for authentication.

I've seen fakes in this style (though never with as good a creed and never with the correct serial number) and if this bag is fake, it's one of the best.

I did see the differences pointed out both on the ebay purse board as well as differences in the comparison of your pictures.

I will gladly eat crow when I'm wrong. And it does appear that either Coach really screwed up on your bag or I am wrong. And based on who makes more mistakes, Coach or me, I vote that I'm way less perfect!!

Interestingly enough, I found an old post where someone asked about the authenticity of a bag with the identical serial number as the bag you have and that bag turned out to be fake. (The pictures are no longer viewable so I have no idea of the style of the bag, but I wonder whether it was the same style as your's.)

Based on the response to Hyacinth's question about "suede," I suspect that the bag may have been the same style:

Comments : The lining are not similar....so curious???

I can't read the creed so a better picture (maybe without flash) would help, but based on the pictures I see, it looks to be okay.

I'm not sure what you mean regarding the lining being not similar.

The more I look at the OP's pictures, the more uneasy I am with the bag. There are other details that are different on the OP's bag, such as the size and shape of the leather tabs on the sides, the size and shape of the rivets on the handles, the color of the stitching. All of the Vintage Signature Satchels I've ever seen have had the rivets on the corners of the side pockets.

I agree, BB, that if this is fake, it's one of the best-looking fakes I've ever seen. I also agree that the OP should send this in somewhere for authentication. It needs to be looked at in person.

The seller who sold this bag said this in the ebay boards thread,

"I bought it here on ebay and when I got it found it was too worn for my taste. Like it was folded for a long time because the back seemed crinkly."

I found this interesting because it was exactly this "red flag" that jumped out at me when I first saw the pictures in that thread.

For what it's worth, here's a picture of the back of the hangtag from a tPF member's authentic Vintage Signature Satchel.

That's what I mentioned earlier~ this bag was released for Fall and the fake I have does not have that on the back of the hangtag like mine did. It is a good fake, which is why I bought it in the first place. But I was sooooooooo disappointed to find out it was fake when it arrived. I am curious about one thing though BB~ how are you able to tell the exact month the bag was made?

Also, I apologize if I got a little annoying with my questioning~ it's just very frustrating when you know you have a fake and someone says otherwise because they can't inspect it in person. In person I have no doubt at all you would know it is fake instantaneously simply because the suede and leather aren't genuine. I appreciate you reviewing the evidence as much as you did. When I get my authentic bag in blue I would like to submit a pic of the patent # on the snap~ I think it's a good thing to be aware of.

The problem is that we can no longer expect the fake factories to always churn out shotty replicas we can determine easily. Sometimes they take more care and make them almost just like the originals and that's a big problem.

Another major issue is the dissolution of the Coach authentication department. I am wondering if you guys have heard of this happening recently? All I know about it is I received a letter along with my bag back in the mail. I will try to find it~ maybe it says something I missed but it's not a good thing for us ebayers.

The first letter of the serial number, "C" is for March. January=A, February=B. etc.

And I apologize for my insistence that the bag was fine. I've seen a few styles where they were definitely fakes but they were so good that it was nearly impossible to tell without doing side-by-side comparisons, as Starry had done. (A couple of styles that have such good fakes are 10341 and 6094. There are others but these are 2 that I can think of off the top of my head. And of course there are the bad fakes of the same styles with shoddy construction and details.)

The problem in this case is that if the bag is such a "good" fake, you need someone who can really analyze it and give an accurate assessment.

Perhaps calling Coach and asking if and where they now do their authentications might help.
